    We just picked up 3 of these, start aeration and overseeding Monday and had a training session yesterday. I spent the whole week toying around with them so I was acclimated before I trained them, I knocked out a 5000 sq ft section on our property in 4 minutes and 41 seconds, perfect square. Set it to 45 on the seed flow and it’s dead on accurate for dropping 5 lbs / 1000 sq ft. Total game changer, hopefully the guys are able to get them in most of the gates, that’s my only concern this year but they’ll also be taking some walk behind Ryan lawnaires as well. Awesome video Pete!

    nice machine! Notice that the seed hopper is in front of the tines, so seed is dropping before the ground is plugged. It would be nice if they were able to figure out a way to drop the seed AFTER the tines for better seed to soil contact. It would allow the seed to drop in the holes.

    • @thefnswits
      @thefnswits Před 4 lety

      if it drops before, a lot of the seed may be actually pused down into the soil. i'd say it's the best method!

    • @ridgedowtin5520
      @ridgedowtin5520 Před 2 lety +1

      The holes are not for the seed to drop in. It’s to get more oxygen down in the soil. If the seed does drop in, it’s neither a good thing or bad thing. The only time you don’t wanna aerate is if a torrential downpour is coming. Otherwise your good to go.

    So when you aerate and seed do you double aerate the entire lawn? If so do you seed both passes at a half rate on each pass or do you wait to seed with the second pass? I have found over the years that when seeding, double aerating seems to get a much better germination rate for the new seed.

    The only thing I don’t like about these Stingers is 2 things: 1) The parking break/mud build-up issues and 2) It would be nice if the front hand bar was adjustable as it really makes the hands ache after running day-in/day-out for anyone with smaller hands. A good example of the adjustable hand bar is on the Ferris stand on mowers (Z2/Z3, etc).

    With the seed dropping in front of the plugger tines, do you get enough soil contact from plugs to ensure good germination? Would it be better if soil was a little drier so plugs were a little crusty and broke up better for better germination?
