Wow, Roli is still around? I thought they'd gone out of business a couple of years ago. It's good that they're still innovating new and enjoyable ways to produce music.
theyre not innovating, they havent for years, I sort of regret buying any of the products that I did. They never released blocks firmware version 2.0 which actually looked cool

Your talent is awesome! Thank you for the amazing demo! But as an owner of the original seaboard block, I'm curious what's different. Roli has not been that great with support after warranty, and they won't even sell replacement batteries. Also, your closeups show the warped plastic in one of the modules... It's not cool for a new item, and it's something I have seen in my devices as well.
In addition to the very unique styles that you could play that are specific just to this keyboard, I see a whole host of other situational uses. As you demonstrated, it makes a very good theremin. It seems like this would be a very good controller for a Yamaha CS-80 VST as well, as you could replicate both the slide and the poly aftertouch. Seaboards also do a really good job with replicating electric guitars and synth leads. There's another video demonstration on CZcams from 2017 with Marco Parisi playing Purple Rain at NAMM, and the guitar he plays on it is jaw dropping for a non-string instrument. It does seems like there is a learning curve to the Roli Seaboard to be able to unlock it's full potential. That's ok, it's a very innovative instrument. I suspect it might be difficult for a beginning or mid-level keyboard player to play as it would expose some of their flaws more easily.
Btw u can lock the tuning or scale, so u dont get the out of tune parts, however remember if u always practice with scale lock u will not get good on it. Its like practising a violin with frets. So either way as long as ur enjoying the sound its good
nice demo, Claudio - cool rendition of Albinoni's Adagio in G Minor as well 🙂 yep that also sounded like Rondo Veneziano as a long time ROLI fan and user this new block looks interestign as they finally added a real MIDI jack (TRS instead of DIN-5 but thats OK) - I wish you had demoed that briefly controlling another hardward synth 😛 Also does it recognize the other key segment additions without the BT running or the ROLI Studio online? don't think the old block version did but I could be wrong long live the 5 Ds of Touch ...
I had the iPad Roli app a few years ago and thought the idea is great, I do find the out of tune notes a bit off-putting at times though, but with practice it can sound awesome.
I haven't ordered yet the Gold Guide, maybe Christmas. There's one thing you already taught me, even if it may be a natural gift, also probably something one may learn and enhance : the ability to make beautiful and clever music with sounds sounding nothing interesting at first glance. You search until you reach something, very often. Where some beginners wouldn't even consider trying. I remember in music shop the saler setting for me the exact sound of Shine on you.. I didn't believe it was it, though it was, including reverb etc.. (Then someone play the moogish chords , the saler plays, and no doubt it's right) An other musician and research guy helped me to understand that, with acoustic sounds #Nicolas Bras, a guy who build acoustic instrument with wood pieces, plastic tube, DIY skills. Sometimes it sounds first very weird, seemingly useless as he explores a new instrument. But after a while he has composed a very unique and powerful song. You guys are musicians, music people, really. There is technic for sure, theory, important to know the tools, but the rythm, the tone, the creativity, the magic, that's something else ❤🎉 Sometimes it begins with the feeling like you don't understand, I like when you say WHAAT! !? A great music time often follows (It's a kind of magic?)
I've had v1 for a while. Good start to get familiar with seaboard, but once you upgrade to Seaboard Rise 2, you never go back... Use it with Audiomodeling SWAM for maximum pleasure... Iridium likes the seaboard too...
I have a Roli Seaboard Block. The last I heard the parent company was discontinuing the line of Roli hardware and going in a completely different direction. Has something changed?
My experience with Rolie when something like the following, I bought a Rolly light up mini controller. I needed one for a night class. I was taking three months went by. I still hadn’t had it in hand. The semester was half over. I still hadn’t bought the thing I needed. I turned around and bought something else from a local store by the end of the semester that the thing had arrived a week after I had canceled it asked for a refund, I looked at my bank statements and so I had been charged for it and had not actually received a refund so I just kept it. It worked for two weeks before it broke then it wasn’t correspondence with them and mailed it back to them. it never came back to me a year later they contacted me apologizing for not having sent me one and told me they would few months later. I reached out and asked am I getting one of these and then they looked and said that I had been refunded for this original purchase, about a month after it had been returned to me and I never really got to have one. That’s my experience with Roli.
One thing I had often wished I could use Seaboard Block Mk I for was as a separate 5D touch controller along with another MIDI keyboard, similar to using a multi-axis touch strip or the very expressive Touché. Sometimes it’s nicer and easier to play the notes from a more traditional feeling keyboard and just utilize the rubbery surface for subtle (or not!) pitch, volume and timbral changes. It’s also better when companies make their products flexible for different applications. Just a thought for future updates. I would consider upgrading to the wired-MIDI-equipped Block M if Roli added this option.

Looks like a lap top computer with keyboard replacing the screen. Perhaps they have a screen for keyboard replacement part for DIY people already designed. You use great sounds for the presentation, very classic synth solo lead sounds.
I think I played an older version already in a music shop... You need to learn how to play indeed, it's not just an ordinary keyboard. Still love the instrument you put it on top of ;-)

I do like the other MPE instruments better. The Linnstrument, or the Continuum, or the Osmose... Roli have a good marketing, but other than that, the Linnstrument is the superior controller in most aspects IMO - while Continuum is better for fine control over sound, and the Osmose is the best thing with the traditional keyboard layout.
HELP!! Shall I get a new Block M or should I get a second hand full keyboard Rise 2?? * how to think... I got one budget so cannot get both... I am new to electronic music but not to music... please help me with some ideas of why one outdo the other .. pease give me ideas and direction of how to best choose between these for music creation and sound design! thanks :)
Buying these used is very tricky, I was in the same boat, I ended up buying two block ms as they both come with 2 year warranty. Better safe than sorry

@@SimplicityForGood you can slide the top and bottom, if you connect two there will be a noticeable note change when trying to slide all the way across seamlessly, that’s the only real drawback. The keybed is the same. For me personally that along with the extra faders didn’t justify the price for me and this way I have portability as well.
Do they stick together magnecatically? I take the key distance is “standard” … Is the processor in the board or is this a computer add … where are the VSTs?

I've been curious about these for a some time, and after I bought a Microfreak I'm seriously considering one as I think it'd work better for me than the capacitive keyboard. My hands are too dry and they don't work well with it, so bends and filter sweeps just can't be done.
Will combo c15 with this roli work with 5d touch? C15 is limited to one pitch on Keys when you overpress it but it bends all Keys which were pressed. For roli it's tracking all the movement separately. How will it end combining those 2 via midi?

I’m glad I saw this video! I’ve liked keyboard music since the mid 1970’s. Seeing a new instrument like this was fascinating.

You are able to adjust the expression curves and modes in Dashboard to switch of glide/vibrato for example or make it less sensitive.
Around 0:50 it almost sounded like one of those epic Muse intros, wow!
