- Peritoneal Malignancy refers to cancers/tumours that have originated in or spread within the abdominal cavity, such as appendix cancer, colon or rectal cancer, gastric and ovarian cancer, and very rare conditions such as Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP), peritoneal mesothelioma, and primary peritoneal cancer
What is the peritoneum?
The peritoneum is a clear lining which covers both organs within the abdomen and the wall of the abdomen.
It has 2 layers.
- One layer lines the abdominal wall and is called the parietal layer.
- The other layer covers the organs and is called the visceral layer.
There is a small amount of fluid between the two layers, which separates them and allows them to slide over each other.
This fluid allows us to move around without causing any friction on the layers.
Simply if one imagines a room like the inside of an abdominal cavity. The organs are the furniture, and the peritoneum covers both the organs and also the abdominal wall, like lining or wall paper

My cousin passed away from Paritoneal Carcinamatosis early this morning, she just turned 35. I want to thank you for your presentation as it helped me to better understand.
Very depressing story
Very nicely explained. Thank you dr.
Excellent presentation. Clarified so much. Thank you.
Im a peritonial cancer victim. Too expensive. SAD!
What treatment are you doing?
My sister had a CT scan with dye and lesions on her omentum were found.
Im begging a doc to give me a CT. I literally feel a lump inside by my spleen. I cant lay on my left side. All of these docs are not taking it seriously. Im getting really mad.
We have to find a cure for cancer. 😢 Too many people and families have been affected by this awful disease
They’ll never find a cure for it
Is needle biopsy recommended? Does it spread the cancer cells?
Sounds like a situation where even if it does they still get paid
It does spread. Better is u ger surgery done and get the biopsy done from that
@@jasajasa711 that does seem to be how it’s done typically now that I think of it
