  • The 2007 Honda CBR1000rr build was almost complete, but the forks were leaking bad. I bought all the tools and parts to do the seals. I broke into them and replaced the seals with 2 different methods. the first method, was completed by buying the specific size seal driver to drive the seal on with no issues. the second method was accomplished by wrapping electrical tape around the inner fork tube until theres a wad of tape the same diameter as the seal itself and then using the outer tube as the driver and ramming it against the electrical tape seating the seal in place.
    the seal driver can be found on Ebay only (I couldn't find them on amazon for a good price)

    Very good advise, I would just say to make sure that 23:05 the nut on the top of the damper, the thing the cap screws onto nut is 10.8mm down from the top of the threads. When you service the cap, the nut tends to works its way down the threads and if you dont check this, reinstalling the cap you will find the rebound flat head screw only goes 1.5 turns in. This is not mentioned in the service manual from what i can find.
    Damper nut threaded length = 10.8mm from the top of the damper rod.

      Good advise. .your range will not be the same as it was if you don't do that. .and will be different to the other side if not same distance. .I found this out the hard way

    Hey Ben, i think you got your compression and rebound the wrong way round. Compression is on the bottom, rebound top small screw.

    Great video man 👌🏼
    Only thing I would mention is to definitely not use WD-40 to pre-lube the fork seals because it is a water dispersant (thus 'WD') and as such it contains some fairly aggressive solvents that are designed to penetrate. These are not very kind to the fork seal rubber.
    Also I had the same issue with the Race Tech fork spring compressor. They first sent me a crappy one that was so badly put together it barely worked. The internal threaded rod was so bent that it locked up when rotated. Same tan-gold powder coat too. Eventually got an ok one but for the price they are no better than the cheap copy.
    Cheers from Australia man 😉

    Word to the wise my friend! You should NEVER apply lateral pressure to a high speed cutting wheel and use it for grinding. At high rpm if you flex that cutoff wheel the imbalance can actually cause them to explode. A 5” cutoff wheel at 7k rpm is doing 104mph and can cause serious damage. Be safe and use a flap disc 🤘
    Also thanks for the video, about to do fork seals on my 04 CBR1000RR

    Amazing work and edits..how do you factor sell price on a bike like the green and tan cbr 600? all the work you did its mind bottling..but i guess if u get a good deal all your experience lets you do it faster then the average guy. keep it up , enjoyed the first fork seal change im doing mine soon. shop wanted 400 plus parts! Im doing the electric tape method and just pulling forks apart with top still secure..im going to remove allen on the bottom ive heard u can do the seals this way on 600's

    • @Benjamminoutdoors
      @Benjamminoutdoors  Před rokem +3

      Actually I overpaid for that bike because it was a friend, then I spent wayyyy to much on the rebuild. I was willing to maybe lose money/break even for views and ad revenue. Sometimes it’s not worth rebuilding something to pristine condition. Also this black cbr I spent too much but I was rebuilding it so the wife of the previous owner could see it.

    Are these forks similar to the 954RR?

  • @everythingsbetternaked473

    yo my rebound adjusters (the one around 26 min) on the top off the fork are uneven the left one is slightly higher than the right one, can this cause any problems in your opinion? The left fork had new seals fitted.

    • @Benjamminoutdoors
      @Benjamminoutdoors  Před rokem +1

      I don’t think it should, Same thing happened to mine but it just looks bad I had to re-adjust where the nut lock on to the cap cause that kinda determines the height of rebound adjusters
