I saw "budget" and "edc" so I'm here now
Yours with 18 likes is right above the comment with like 300 likes. Good job getting top comment
i saw "budget" and "20$" and i thought "hell nah that aint budget" but still i have come to this video
We all did
Great cheap flashlight is the NEBO mycro looks like those cheap little key fob lights but it puts out 400 lumens in turbo and is rechargeable
YUP😂😂
I just found out about edc, why am I so obsessed lol
For real
Same
It’s utilitarian and fun
No like legit I'm so obsessed with edc and it started with just getting a ridge wallet 😅
I believe your compensating for a lack of a fathers love and guidance
Love the coverage of budget gear. As a college student working on a second degree, I don’t have a lot of money to be throwing around on some of the gear I really want, and enjoy seeing some other options
Are you Norwegian?
Why the hell do u need a second degree?
@@markzc6236 So he can earn more money and buy more expensive gear! lmao!!!
@@markzc6236 some studys require two, or a masters degree, like architecture in alot of european countrys, if you just do ur bachelors degree you are not an architectu, you need ur masters diploma to be called one :p
@@eovaok yeah that's my struggle right now, I am dad now but still studying... Sometimes I think about working with just a bachelor degree, but you just earn the money of a technical drawer. I have no money, no time and at the moment no self esteem thanks to Corona , I am now 1,5 years at home with a baby in a 30 qm flat, i have no own room and I am totally overwhelmed.
Sorry for telling you my problems, but I normally keep them a secret and I spotted this opportunity because I don't know you and I feel a connection to you because you know the problem with the architecture education and you like EDC .
What's weird about us is we like all these minimalist things.... So we can carry 100 things lol.
Lol true. I carry a minimalist wallet and I stuff it with cards, cash, and a few coupons. The wallet leather stretches overtime and it is still pretty slim in my opinion. Oh and the wallet Patinas over time while using it.

I’ve always explained it in this exact way to my friends that ask about it lol
Love my Gerber shard, I mainly use it as bottle opener. It works well with my keys, doesn't get in the way. The pen I carry is the Fxmd (F701) and I put it through a lot at my job, but its held up fantastically so far.
I’m just starting to get my boyfriend and myself into EDC (I need a kit since Im going to school for an outdoorsy job). I just got my boyfriend a Gerber shard and I’m going to get myself one too. Thanks for these videos you’re really helping me out with my college student budget.
Quality work and great video! Thanks for these options as helps me start to get my amazon list together to get my EDC equipment!! Really enjoy your work!
Very cool! I always enjoy your videos Taylor, u include something for everyone no matter what budget they’re working with.
Great job 👍
Great video! Also, how you carry some things can make a difference. I love the Doohickey and carry it on a ball chain necklace for easy access. I have lost things off my keyring before, so I limit what I put on it. Also, it disperses bulk a lot better.
Just a note, I know you don't really like the Kershuffles (I do, I have a couple of 2s!) but for a budget knife, sometimes Walmart will carry older model Kershaws at well below their original price, and I have picked up a few good blades this way.
Carry on, good sir!
My new key setup: attached a belt holder to a good clip I got at tandy leather, car key hangs on one split ring, keysmart hangs on another. Keysmart holds 3 keys and my Gerber Mullet
I found that Nite Ize DoohicKey at the store a while back and fell in love. The difference maker is it's a simple multi-tool with prybar, bottle opener, box tape cutter, but it has the carabiner clip so it's essentially just a keyring to me. With so many additional "just in case" options without greatly increasing the size of a keyring, it's a very efficient use of space. At $4, it's also damn cheap so you have to love that. Having used it for about a year now, I'd highly recommend it if looking for a keyring that can do more.
Two years later after inflation chaos. It’s nearly $11. Just thought you’d like to know you were smart to get that bargain in the preapocalyptic era.
I had some of those cables for my keys. I used it for like a year and a half, and it started to fray, don't remember the brand, but started using the S clips and haven't gone back. After watching this video I might find them and switch my keys back since I added more to my keys.
I LOVE the gerber dime in concept. The back of the bottle opener adds just enough length and has just enough angle to nest in my palm for one of the most comfortable plier in its size. The tool spread is great for me. Aside from the joke files, I have used and like every tool. It rides nice in the pocket.
Problem is lots of small quality control things. Plier tips match up, a scale not sitting flat. Would gladly pay that higher price if it's a quality control improvement.
U also like the shuffle. The 2.0 not so much but the original I recommend. I need to go back and hear his complaints.
As a Direct Support Professional, the Fisher Space Pen is a great hefty pen that gets the job done never had it strand me while writing up my 4 or 5 paragraphs of notes. The nice thing is that it’s waterproof so I use a field notes notebook Expedition Edition to take notes while dealing with stuff out in the community.
Another good edc pen option is the Tombow Airpress. It's plastic, but fairly robust in my experience. It's got a fat body and it's rubberized so the grip is great. It pressurizes the ink when you click the plunger and the ink is more consistent than the Space Pen refills. A standout feature for me is the lanyard ring. I use a tiny split ring to attach it to a retractable badge lanyard and clip it to my work vest so I have instant access to a pressurized pen at all times.
I have carried & used that Gerber utility knife for years... love it! Keep an eye on the blade screw!
Lenox blades. The best blade I have used in any utility knife!
The screw on mine broke right after I changed the blade for the first time. Got a cheap Mossy Oak folding utility knife that's about the same size and has a quick change blade holder.
Awesome little run down, thanks for compiling it and sharing your thoughts on everything.
Ran across your channel today. I’m hooked on this EDC stuff lol.
I spent many hours watching your phone reviews back in the day. Nice surprise to find you again.
For the Swiss knife multi tool I suggest the plastic one which includes a toothpick and tweezers. It comes in handy
I carry a Fisher space pen because I like the size, but I put a modified gel pen refill in and now it is my absolute favorite pen.
Definitely did the damn thing with this video ✊🏾 These are great gift ideas for a new EDC’r
The steel cable keychains have been my go-to over the years. Glad you included them.
I read "EDC gear" on the title and saw a pocket knife and I thought to myself "Who the hell would take a knife to a rave?!" 😂 😂 😂
How else are you going to split the Molly when you and your friends are on a budget?
@@user-xe4xw1ws1n you're right!
It makes sense to me to be willing to buy expensive stuff cause I tend toward minimalism in some ways, I like to buy it once and get the maximum lifespan and utility out of an item. But, I also have a place for cheaper stuff - easy to buy multiple copies to have one in each bag and not have to think about it, and I can have stuff attached to the outside of my bag or in my back pocket in the city and accept the risk of losing it. Also great for small gifts to tempt friends to join me in my EDC obsession :P
you are such a idiot. MINAMISM BAD
I've been carrying the classic SD for years. I wanted to give a shout out to those tweezers, they're priceless when you need them.
I carry it and use the tooth pick and tweezers the most as I carry a larger blade. It’s always with my keys so I always have a knife just in case.
i have decided to get involved in edc due to the fact that i always grab my wallet but constantly fail to grab a knife and always find i need it plus a flash light and pen picked up a cheap no name leather organizer similar to a cardcaddy but plan on making a custom later on your channel has been a ton of help and a lot of fun to watch
i carry the virtorinox classic and the Dime for a few years now. Work in an office and do regular light handywork for myself. What was surprising to me is how much use i got out of the voctorinox scissors and the Dime box cutter. The quality of the victorinox is superb and holds great though the years, can't recommencement it enough, the quality of the Dime is... acceptable for its price.
I have a quiet carry shorty with the multitool attachment and I absolutely love it!!!
Great video 👌. Nice job with the edit.
The TSA told me I couldn’t carry a few of these items and I told them, it’s EVERY DAY CARRY, not Most Day Carry.
They weren’t amused.
bro i never laugh at comments... you just broke thathehehehehehehehe
I often find myself asking myself “what would a tiny piece of metal like that come in handy for” along with it looking useless and silly then shortly after I’ll end up needing one for the most random situations. Not to mention I happen to make a borderline fool of myself just cause I didn’t have a mini pry bar hidden in the little pocket of my jeans
I didn’t hear you mention it, but when it comes to the pens the zebra f-701 can also take a space pen insert! You just have to use a toothpick to take a small piece of plastic out of the top of the pen! I have used that kind of pen at work for the past year and I’ll never go back. And it only comes out to about 15$
I appreciate the way you explain your choices. Good video.
I added a bit of tread locker to my wire key ring and it works like a charm ! I’ve snagged it on soo many things and never had it break on me
I've had the Gerber eab light for about a year now. It's small, light, and sharp. It's also all metal and has a thicker clip that wont bend of let loose. Theres so many different razors to put on it too
+1 for the shackle key organiser, dirt cheap and does the job perfectly, used one for years until I made a wider version out of a bit of flat bar.
I do love the Shard...Its great to beat on when Prying on something like a Paint Can.. But I do agree about the Comfort Factor
Didn't realize these things I have and like are a trend. I have always had a "thing" for a certain kind of keyring or pocket pen, knife, clips. I have many of the ones you show in this vid - the titanium key ring(s), Nite Ize DoohicKey, (a lot of Nite-Ize stuff from way back when they started), the Gerber razor blade knife, Aircraft Cable Keychain... and so much more. I have a lot of vintage stuff since I have been around for quite awhile. Really enjoyed your video. Thanks!
I love the video, I only have one thing to recommend, maybe put the timestamps for the separate categories in the description as well.
I love my Gerber Dime although I used it for some tougher jobs and it snapped the screwdriver and the pliers are now a little off axis. Also - it has some little tweezers next to the bottle opener which are super useful.
Well thought out review. Stuff that I would actually consider purchasing.
Midnight manager victorinox is about the same size but introduces a pen function and also bottle opener. In addition a lot of people don’t realize this but the blade on the midnight manager is on the opposite side of the key ring this allows you to use the blade easily while attached to your Keyes. The SD model has the blade on the key side which is a little annoying when trying to cut something.
That Gerber wallet is way underrated. It is super useful and well rounded, robust. Holds everything I need, and didn't take all my money to hold it. If you want RFID blocking just buy a plate for it.
The refills for the space pen include an adapter to make them compatible with standard Parker ball point pens. That the Jotter uses. And the Jotter with a space pen refill is still less than $20, and if you write a lot the Jotter will feel far better in your hand than the Zebra or the bullet pen.
The package opener is what I like best on my Gerber dime & it fits perfect in my watch pocket .I thought about the Zebra F-701 and decided to go with the Zebra StylusPen Telescopic Ballpoint Pen and it fits great in my pocket even while sitting. As for flashlight I carry the Streamlight 66608 250 Lumen Microstream USB Rechargeable Flashlight until I lost it today and will go on Amazon tomorrow and order another even at $40 I will replace it when ever I need to. In my right pocket I carry usually a Spyderco, Kershaw or my trusty Benchmade mini Barrage, amongst others.
I use the smaller I 1R by attaching it to my dogs collar at night when running or just in the yard
Me: *Buys Kershaw Shuffle*
Taylor: “I no longer recommend the Kershaw Shuffle”
He's sleep deprived, yeah that's it, he's sleep deprived.
😂
I have had the shuffle for several years now and i have tried other small budget folders but I keep coming back to it. There is something about the simplicity and functionality of the design.
Yeah if I go back to a dedicated knife (right now I mainly use a utility knife and also have a full sized Multitool) my shuffle would be an easy choice.
I'm curious about what makes the Squid better than the Shuffle with both of them using the same blade steel.
When people have beads more expensive than multitools I have I feel poor.🥺
My dream video come true. Salute man! 🍺
I have switched to using Pokka Pens. They are like the old bullet pencils, very sturdy, and fit easily in a pocket or Altoids tin. They aren't fancy, but very useful.
Fun fact, the zebra F-701 perfectly fits a fisher space pen refill inside it. So if you want that space pen reliability but are not a fan of the look just put a refill in the F-701!
Your HONESTY is very appreciated.
You should mention that Victorinox Classic in plastic version has two additional tools, which are tweezers and a toothpick. These comes quite handy!
I waited forever to try Gerber shard. Can't believe how much i use it. Mostly scraping and peeling since I bite my nails and the nail pry center cuts ties on boxes and toys easily. One of those id's never like but turns out use a lot.
Really like the Squid. Gave mine to a co-worker. One of the nice things about the Squid is that it is very office friendly. Small, kind of cute, non-threatening.
I love my ZAK Tool man, thanks for letting me know about this product.
I got the Doohickey for emergencies thinking I would never use it. I must use that thing 5 to six times a day!! From opening bottles to screwing in my key organizer. I even used it today to fix a doggie gate! Amazing tool!!
Parker jotter. By far my favorite pen. Carry one every day at work. Got my wife hooked on them too
I would also recommend the True Utility Smartknife+. It is $10 USD and has built in file, wrenches of various sizes, bit driver, flat heads, prybar, with a liner lock serrated blade.
I also owned the Gerber folding razor in the video. It is also around $10 and is SO practical. I used to clip it underneath the bill of my ballcap. Looks inconspicuous and is real simple, even one handed
This is a great CZcams Channel! I’m putting together a survival kit and first aid kit to put in my 11.6L backpack for when I ride the Hatfield McCoy Trails in West Virginia. The pack has a 2.5L in it, just looking to put something together in case something happens.
Good vid as usual.subbed
Thanks for filming
The most useful keychain scraper I ever had was the parachute keychain. Titanium. But it had a wide area, and when I was operating an industrial laser cutter, it was the most used thing. It could pry, but most useful was the side scraper, which I used A LOT to clean off areas that had labels, tape, grease or some corrosion that would interfere with the laser. And due to the hardness it barely got worn and wouldn't damage the material. It sucks for actually opening bottles though, and I've never used it for anything but scraping and prying.
Don't forget the tweezers on the Dime! Oh and the small flat head can be used on certain Phillips heads.
Hey, have you ever heard of the Gerber curve? It's what I use and it's great. I used to carry a dime but since switching the curve has made many parts of the dime useless.
I carry a nite ize doohickey and a Swiss army classic SD everywhere I go and that's the lightest, most useful combo I've found. I've had a Leatherman micra for over a decade but it's a lot heavier and I really don't need all the excess weight when the little Swiss army knife and doohickey do everything I need. I love the doohickey cause it's cheap and clips on my keys and doesn't weigh anymore than an extra key. Plus the box cutter edge is super nice for when you wanna cut tape but are concerned about damaging the contents of the box. I use those two tools daily and honestly prefer them to a lot of more expensive options because I'm less worried about losing them.
For me, the best edc multitool is the one I always can have with me, and that combo is so much more comfortable to carry than anything else I've tried. The micra is great but after awhile the scissors will dull and the tools on it aren't much more comfortable or usable than the classic SD, so I don't see it as being worth the weight. Plus with the Swiss army knife I get a toothpick and I dont use that often but when I need it I'm always so thankful it's there.
The Dime is one of my favorite, inexpensive tools. The Tweezers, Scissors and that package opener are unbelievably useful.
Leatherman Squirt PS4 has a similar toolset, but better quality.
I mean I understand why a lot of guys enjoy extensive EDCs just to be ready but I have carried a gerber suspension multi tool and a gerber air ranger folder in conjunction with smaller cheap flashlights for 3 years straight and had zero issues. On top of that I've used the gerber suspension and the air ranger in heavy duty construction work and field dressing animals.
for the zebra, if you want to use a g2 refill, just pull of the cap of the cartidge and it works nice
Parker G2 style refills wheel, not a Pilot G2. In mine I've used a trimmed Zebra Sarasa refill (emulsion ink), an Ohto Rays Flash Dry (gel ink), and a Fisher Space pen refill. They're really great bombproof pens with great grip. 👍🏽
love my chums surf short wallet i have 2 use one for storing tools papers/spare cards etc and one as my edc wallet
I need to get another dime, I miss mine. Love the chums wallet haven't had it long but still lol
I got like 3 laying around if you want one
need another dime
because now I fastly miss mine
a haiku would die
I've used a chums surf wallet for 10 years now. It's seriously the best thing ever.
Ive carried the gerber eab utility knife for years and i love it
one important thing to remember about titanium is it transfers heat very quickly so if you’re not care you may work harden somthing like a spring which could cause it to crack or snap sooner then you think.
Maybe look at doing a video on what the next level up from each of these items would be?
The Lucky Line 5” Twisty Key Ring is a high quality steel ring with a very low profile connector that won’t break on you. They only come in a 5 pack but are colour plastic coated.
What version of the Ontario Rat do you suggest? I wanted to look it up but there's a LOT of them and I don't know which to look for.
The dime has pull out tweezers too. Great tool.
Really like this vid. Because I carry a lot of these items :)!
I use Parker jotters with Fisher space pen refill,
I recently treated myself to the Fisher ag7 which is the pen used on the apollo missions. And the form factor is similar to the jotter.
I use a write-in-rain pen in blaze orange for my EDC. Its simple, easy to see, and writes like a dream.
Can you cover the diodrio edc pocket organizers and the viperade edc leather sheaths? They are some cheap organizers on Amazon.
Very cool video and useful for cheap edc gear
What do you recommend for a twist AA flashlight? I have lots of Eneloops to use.
Most all my EDC stuff is under 35$ dollars and I upgrade slowly but it works for me thank you for you channel
The "Dime" IS an excellent tool. I have a leatherman sidekick and I carry the Dime more than the Sidekick. It has saved my butt quite a few times. But I definitely recommend it.
I love my lumintop tool aa it can as a kit with rechargeable lithium ion battery diffuser I've been carrying it every day for about 2 years in a mag light holster I super glued the bottom shut
I hear you guys talk about microfiber hanks I live in south Louisiana. We sweat alot I mean it's March and it's 83°. How do you use it for glasses and such with it drench?
After a SAK and a flashlight, most of my EDC is cheap stuff I pick up and put in my pockets: rubber bands stored on the end of my flashlight, a stick pen (useful as a general purpose stick-like-object), a few folded sheets of paper, a leftover shopping bag (my most useful item after my knife and flashlight, flattens to nothing in the back pocket), 3 to 4 feet of paracord (great for bundling and carrying stuff, as a cat toy, etc.), and a lighter in the winter. I find that things which can be consumed and replaced often have more creative uses then things I have to preserve.
My favorite AAA Flashlight is my trusty Streamlight Microstream. Single mode, and the button requires some authority to activate so it doesn't bump on. It is right at $20
After having my house key drop off in a parking lot and getting home before I realized it, I fixed my s biners by slipping a piece of vinyl tubing over the two parts where they meet. I can remove it if I need to and my keys have stayed put ever since.
I carried the Gerber Barbill wallet for a little. You can indeed use the bottle opener while the cards are in place, you don't have to take them out.
Damn, I've had the F701 for over 10 years now! Didn't know they were popular in the EDC community lol I'm 27 now and that pen works just as well today as the day I bought it. The ONLY reason I bought it is because of the way the weight of it is distributed, it makes it PERFECT to twirl around your thumb for fidgeting. Takes a lot of practice, but when you do it right, it makes you look like a ninja lol
What brand of utility blade did you use on your Gerber? The gold color and partial serrations really stand out. Thanks!
You inspired me to make my edc here in 🇺🇸 & my edc in 🇩🇴
For the small keychain multi tool there is also the Gerber mullet. It’s 10$ and can be found at outdoor stores like sheels and fleet farm
Yes! I carry this on my keys and use it at least once a week!
Subscribed. Great video.
great video new sub no bullshit just good choices and explanations
Couple other items for consideration. Twine, duct tape, mechanical pencil, sharpie, pocket sized whet stone, kraft cahier notebooks. Index cards/holder, signal whistle, safety pins, bandana/hankie
