I love Philip Glass’ Metamorphosis pieces and wish to learn how to
play them all. Metamorphosis 1 and 2 are my favourites.

That was great Chris. I could watch endless hours of Phillip Glass breakdowns. Funny, you mentioned Beethoven. I’ve always considered the Moonlight Sonata as a compass for the entire style of Glass. Yes, the vocabulary of the day was different. But the use of simple triads to move us along from moment to moment is right there. Perhaps a side-by-side comparison between the two would be interesting?

I've always felt there is a lot of Beethoven in Glass. Beethoven has, throughout his symphonies, these little snippets of beautiful orchestral scales/arpeggios. I can't remember if Beethoven turned me onto Philip or vice versa.

Thanks Chris, cheers for that. You mentioned that you hadn't thought about the Metamorphosis for some time, yeah me too. I found your video while examining Glass compositions as a base piece to improvise theremin on. I know, weird... By training and profession, I'm actually a classical trombone player. But I remember studying Glass at University, Faculty of Music in my first year there and my God that was SUCH an eye-opening year. I think I encountered minimalism, fell in love and tried weed all on the same day. Sorry if that in any way might seem to diminish Phillip Glass. Since studying Glassworks and Metamorphosis and graduating I have performed Koyaanisqatsi and have become more drawn to Glass's work. Thanks for "bringing me home". So much mucis, so little time... Thanks for the video!

That Cmaj7 to C7 has a real Radiohead/Thom Yorke sound. I’m certainly inspired to play these pieces and go a bit deeper

There really is a parallel to Beethoven here too I believe...less is more if you know how to frame it right, and Glass does...thanks for the breakdown

Wonderful presentation of these works. I’m a guitarist and classical composer, and you’ve inspired me to start playing the piano again. Ordering Metamorphosis sheet music now!

I’ve been playing some of Rani’s pieces with an idea to do some sort of analysis, absolutely.

Random way of me discovering the Metamorphisis suite and Glass was via Battlestar Galactica as it was playing on the stereo in Starbuck's apartment in Season 1.

much more. i often recommend Metamorphosis 1-5 as an introduction to Glass' work for piano.
