    ADD And The Female Brain - The Answers!
    Over 17 million people in the United States have ADD. It is the most common learning and behavioral problem in children and one of the most common problems in adults, leading to job failures, relationship breakups, loneliness, drug abuse, and a tremendous sense of underachievement.
    The hallmark symptoms of ADD are:
    short attention span
    distractibility
    disorganization
    restlessness
    procrastination
    impulse control
    ADD is commonly thought of as a disorder of hyperactive, behaviorally troubled boys. Yet, it afflicts many girls who are often overlooked because they tend not to be as hyperactive and have fewer behavior problems.
    In fact, although females have ADD in high numbers, males are diagnosed three to four times more than females. Missing ADD in females can have devastating lifelong effects on their health, mood, relationships, career, and finances.
    Girls with ADD suffer more than 7 times the risk for both antisocial and mood disorders, three times the risk for addictive disorders, and twice the risk for anxiety disorders than those who do not have ADD. Additionally, they have a higher risk for eating disorders, such as bulimia and obesity.
    But there’s good news-you are NOT stuck with the brain you have!
    In this week’s short video, Dr. Daniel Amen and his wife Tana Amen talk about ADD and how it differs in males and females. They’ll also share practical tips that you can implement in your life right now.
    Here are just a few of the helpful topics they cover in this information-packed video:
    Why a traumatic brain injury can impact a woman&rquo;s IQ more than a man’s
    The symptoms to pay attention to in yourself or a female loved one
    How ADD can affect your relationships
    What NOT to say to the female in your life with ADD
    Which supplement has been shown to be very helpful for those with ADD
    How what you choose for breakfast can help or hurt your ADD

      When discussing things with my husband we will often have to write something down during the middle of one of us speaking. We started doing this to avoid cutting each other off because it happens a lot. We will forget what we wanted to bring up if we don’t write it down. We both have untreated ADD. It’s gotten so out of control that I’m going back to my old doctor to get some help.

    I'm 26, female and convinced I have ADD. The last two decades have been filled with not living up to my potential, addiction, intense and traumatizing relationships, occupational issues, lack of organization, distractibility, unable to finish anything at all. My symptoms have got worse since I've moved to the city and my life is about to take a bad turn once again. I'm seeing a doctor next week and determined to get a diagnosis so I can start working through this. All the depression I have experienced is exactly as you said, feeling regret and sadness at everything I want to do and haven't achieved, and wondering why when I'm an intelligent individual I just cannot see things through or stick to anything. Thanks for the video

    I was diagnosed with ADHD. In 2006 when I was 27 in another city I am not in today. The city I live in doesn't seem to believe it and keep diagnosing me with bipolar instead. The thing is every medication for bipolar I've been on only ended up making me angry, mean, and constantly wigging out. Finally I stopped listening to those idiots and got off the meds. Between listening to people like these two and others on you tube who suffer the same conditions. I've been able to help myself get better for the most part. I do think there r area where meds for add may have been helpful. I'm just glad that there formats and webpages full of people with some very helpful advise. Since Dr.Tana and Daniel. I eat better. I know how to get my anxiety down with meditation. And I no longer wig out. Haven't done that for 5 years now. So thank you for taking the time to reach out to people who can't afford the proper help

    Diagnosed about 2 years ago at about 34 as a Mum of three! When I found myself looking into ADD because I thought my middle daughter exhibited signs of the disorder, found that I myself demonstrated most of the traits. Getting support for this has been very difficult - seems most "experts" have not actually specialised in this type of disorder and I feel, tend to brush you off or see you as a person who is seeking medication ( this may be me reading too much into it) rather than a genuine case. Get people telling me all the time: "well just write notes", "why don't you just write everything down", or "you just need to take more responsibility!". But none of this helps me in the least, as this is all obvious to the best of us!
    It isn't that we want to be shit at all this, *we just are* ! Telling a person with ADHD to "get over it" or "just remember" is like telling an asthmatic to "just breathe". The more they focus on trying to breath, the harder it gets! Can't wait until things like ADD are understood from an objective scientific view so that laymen like myself don't have to fight the uphill battle of convincing family/strangers. I once thought depression was an "excuse", until I experienced it. Now, I really wish I had the strength of mind to stay in uni for long enough to make a valuable contribution to things like this!
    To others struggling in a similar way, I encourage you to message me so we can get shit off our chests together!

    I was diagnosed with ADD at age 7. I also wondered if my toxic/dysfunctional relationship’s. For 5 years on and off I would go back to the same unavailable guy which was extremely, extremely toxic. The beginning was always great, then we would start fighting then end things then get back together. It was a never ending cycle of disfunction but yet I couldn’t stop it. I have horrible commitment issues and one of things I say causes that is my fear of boredom that I associate with commitment and how normal/stable relationships are not exciting to me. I always would joke with my friends that whether it’s work or a relationship I thrive in disfunction and chaos. Everyone in my life never understood why I constantly would be pick these toxic relationships that had so many red flags. Now it all makes sense

    I have always felt like there was something wrong with my head, so I did get myself checked out and I was diagnosed with minor depression and social anxiety. But somehow that didn't really feel like the whole truth, it felt like there was so much more wrong with me. And suddenly, I was procrastinating, like always, I found a video about ADHD in adults, and it just made bang in my head. That's me, that would explain all my problems I've ever had in my life. So then I began digging up all the infomation I could find, everything fits, but it also fits with a big part of my family. Both of my parents, my grandfather, my sister and even my cousin seem like they might have it. Is it really possible, or likely that that many people of my family have it? Or do this symptoms just fit on anybody?(I'm not talking about some,but really most of them,if not all)
    One of the reasons, I think, why my parents didn't got me checked out, even though I was struggling, was that they were struggling just the same when they were kids and thought that that was normal...

      I feel much the same way. I entertained the idea, first, however, that I have ADHD. I have a coworker (woman) who also has it, and my brother had it (much different than myself, though). My psychologist has already hinted that I may have it, but I find out next week. I suggest maybe getting a thorough psychological testing done, if you haven't already? I had to take a grueling 15 minute attention test. I didn't think I did poorly on it, but I only did half as well as I could have. I was stunned. Good luck!!!! I keep watching videos and reading articles, and the more and more I read and watch, the more I realize I really probably have it.

I mean yes, I definitely have social anxiety and I have bouts of depression, but it’s more secondary. I ended up seeing a new psychiatrist who in the first meeting he said he had a feeling about something and tested me for ADHD and sure enough, 100% ADHD!!! Hayley Robinson excuse me? Yes they do feel down and depressed because they feel stupid they have not been able to finish a task, to concentrate to stop cutting ppl off while they are talking only to bring up 1 thing that turns into the topic then ends up with you talking about the funny cat video you seen etc etc. We have no impulse control and to someone who doesn’t have it or understand it. They are looking at you like you are mentally challenged or stupid. I know this first hand. When you say it’s a great thing being super focused ya sure that only happens after numerous testing and 6-9 months of trying medication etc etc. Until you get the diagnosis and testing and meds we aren’t focusing it is a battle daily and you can’t understand or say something like it’s a gift to ppl who suffer with it. Your comment is false and upsetting to anyone with add that may read it. And that’s wrong of you

    I have A.D.D. and I scratch my head and stare at lint that flies through the air and sounds and other things that move in my peripheral vision. I also move my place if I'm sitting in a chair at school or anywhere else for that matter. I didn't self-diagnose,but I went to a doctor because I was failing some classes in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. My A.D.D. ranges from me not paying attention to someone talking to me to me jumping from one thing to another while I'm talking. I know that I do it, but I try not to. My family regularly have to tell me to focus and they try to get my attention when I zone out. Once I was taking a test and I saw this piece of lint and I stared at the lint that was flying through the air, after I stared at the lint for about five minutes I heard some of my classmates talking and it royally screwed with my head for about ten minutes. Eventually my teacher noticed and she was aware of my "disease" or whatever so she sent me out of the room and made me go to a teacher workroom that was silent and empty of people and distractions. I might go to the doctor again to see if I might have Social Anxiety because I get really scared and I start to delay and hyperventilate when I'm around new people or around people I'm not very close to. Well this comment is a mess. Whatever.

I do not know how to let go of the jealousy because this is when i realize its not all ADHD, im just less capable in general. Anyway its great she is able to do all that, their daughters will have a good role model!

      I recommend doing some research on ADHD. There's a great channel here on CZcams - "How to ADHD", the girl has some great advice. The key is finding the ways of doing things that work for us personally and totally ignoring what works for other people :-)
      Stop telling yourself "I'm just less capable in general" and try to find out what works for you :-) I've been doing that for 3 years now in various areas of life. It takes some effort and isn't possible everywhere and all the time, I need to take other people into account. And it feels really weird to "tailor my life exactly to my needs wherever I can" - but it works :-)
      People with ADHD usually have bigger potential than others but also need different, very specific conditions than others to develop it. My sister has the inattentive disorder, she daydreams all the time, unable to focus and her room is a horrible mess. But recently, she got passionate about the 1800's Sweden interior design style. Now she's cleaning her room for the first time in her life and she will have a beautiful room with a unique style :-)

I was just diagnosed with Asperger's and ADHD in late June and have taken Ritalin ER 10 mg for 9 days now. I'm not hyper at all, but I'm more focused already I've always wanted so much to be organized. So excited to finally start to decide what to keep and what to toss without the anxiety and overwhelm.

      if you have adhd you’re born with it so you would be unable to pay attention, easily distracted, constantly daydreaming, falling asleep/running around, etc. in class as a child. there are lots of things and it’s different for everyone in the ways it shows up depending on what type you have and you may have developed coping mechanisms by now but if you experienced symptoms as a child its more likely you have it!

      Before breaking the bank, try:
      1) working out: bodyweight exercises (NO equipment needed, either) are VERY engaging of the central nervous system;
      2) walking especially with a pack of some kind;
      3) eat more proteins and cut the carbs (but eat all the fiber you can find);
      4) spending timei in outdoor green settings at least 20min. gets you about at least 2 hrs. of "chill" for brain;
      5) music: make Pandora and your mp3 player your best friends
      6) reading fascinating (to you) stuff;
      now you can spend money on treatments and meds - if you still need them.
      PS bodyweight exercises I find work are also the most basic: burpees, pullups, pushups, squats, jumping as high as you can. Notice how most use your legs, core and lower body: you also will look stunning quick!

    What if someone is really allergic to fish? How is one supposed to get the oh-so important omega 3 fatty acids then?

    • @ItsAsparageese
      @ItsAsparageese Před 5 lety

      Plenty of people use alternative sources. The omegas I buy are usually a combination of fish flax and borage oils. Also allergies are generally based on proteins whereas the extracted fats are just that, fats. As a result most fat-based products are essentially hypoallergenic. For example, most people with all but the most incredibly sensitive nut allergies are still fine with almond oil.

    • @ItsAsparageese
      @ItsAsparageese Před 5 lety

      And flaxseed being less efficient isn't a huge deal if you're not pressing the oil yourself. In isolation, nutrients are nutrients, they're the same unit for unit.

      I have dyslexia and wouldn't call it a disability. It doesn't disable you from learning, I just don't learn well the way schools teach. It does affect reading, writing, spelling, and memory, so school was is hard unless it was hands on stuff. Dyslexia has its down falls but it has its gifts as well, like being able to figure out how things work by looking at it, or how to build something by looking at a picture, being able to visualize and rotate 3d objects in my head, being artistic and creative. Up to 90% of architects have dyslexia and a high number of engineers, and entrepreneurs have it as well.

It's been developed into two similar systems - the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (which is very popular but well... wrong on many counts, I call it "just a better horoscope") and Socionics. I recommend Wikisocion. It might also mean you have Asperger's syndrome (if you need a structure, have a good long-term memory, sometimes have troubles reading people's intentions and like that).
