What a great place for people to meet and swim, inner tube float and of course DANCE! Good video and good memories here.

Floating the river and getting out of town was always refreshing.
All kinds of options for camping and cabin rentals for even the largest of family and friends.

Been a fan of Texas Country Reporter since the 70'S, me now 71+ yrs old, still have not seen all of Texas, some 50 years ago, have never seen a place nor video i did not like. I cannot say that about any other chows, videos - You Tube's io have seen.
Texas Country Reporter is like living a Norman Rockwell Photo, or movie. Warm fuzzy feelings of being HOME> :) Bob, and now Kelli Phillips [Lee] btw Kelli was a great anchor as well. Love it > from SE Texas Bear ❤💯🙏

I was dancing at Garner several years in the late 50s. Our FFA group would spend about a week there each summer. Black Land Farmer was a popular song then. I went back again about 40 years later and Black Land Farmer and most of the other old songs were still on the juke box. You talk about good memories!

I just received this video today through email and Black Land Farmer was the first thing that came to my mind. Had the same experience you had when going back after all those years.

It’s so sad that most kids now days are so tied up in their iPhones they don’t get to build memories like this!

The Boy Scouts have a camp there. Well, back in the 60s. My troop leader, Steamboat Steele of Troop 22 out of Corpus Christi (N. Beach), said that they named a steamboat-shaped ledge after him that is part of the park?? It's right there in the Frio. I know, we hiked right past it in the river and had to find flat river rocks to use for cooking. Thought that was an odd survival skill and badge merit. That's until I joined the ARMY and went through survival/POW simulation which made the boy scout ordeal pale in comparison

It's too bad that this state park is absolutely filthy. It's been neglected by its visitors. The pollution is very high. The bathrooms and showers are disgusting and poorly maintained. The trailheads and river are littered with trash. There is graffiti everywhere on the trails as well.
My grandfather was in the CCC and would be greatly disappointed to see this park in its current state.

That's from our south of the border "friends"... They trash the lakes and parks up here in North Texas as well.
