***** Nintendo actually had a lawsuit filed against them strictly because of the spin the joystick games. They gave out free gloves to whoever called and inquired. Fun fact.

Yes it is very underrated. I also like Mario Party 2's soundtrack but this one has the best in the series hands down. Hard to believe it's the same guy who did the Chrono series

I get a lot of Super Mario RPG vibes from this soundtrack. I had 3 friends and we'd all play this together as kids. Good times. Probably my favorite local multiplayer game ever. Won't ever forget us stealing other's stars and getting mad over it, lol. My brother still has all the old N64 controllers with floppy control sticks that we broke playing this game lol.
The Bowser board music straight references Bowser's Keep from RPG.
It's odd of me to think of a time where SMRPG could have legitimate influence over the Mario series, pre-Paper Mario
Nintendo is unparalleled. Mario and Zelda has the most incredible music.

Ugh I hated Pedal Power and it's still my least favorite mini-game to this day because of the blistering. I do love the remix of Ice Land from SMB3 that they used for the music though.

I got this video game for my fifth birthday in 1999 February man those were the good old days I didn't even start school yet until just a few months later so I spend most of my time playing video games I'm watching cartoons and sometimes I go with my mom to pay bills or get food and groceries make pretty much run errands
It's either this or WWF Attitude or maybe DKC or maybe even Super Mario World I don't really remember since I was like 4 years old when I first played a video game.

I love the credits theme; it's just so nostalgic! But when I hear it I can't help but remember the credit roll.
You've slogged away and collected 100 stars, destroying challenger after challenger on every single board, in every single mini-game. Finally, the Super Star is about to be revealed, and you know it simply has to be you. And the moment then finally comes:
The entire cast are there standing on a giant star. And the words appear:

Ducking and Dodging was by the far my favorite song. Still cracks me up just from hearing the song. Remembering beating the shit out of Wario on Coin Block Bash just to hear him make that stupid yelling noise he does. "NYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH"

There's a lot of references to past mario games in here. Taking Coins (29:54) and Dodging Danger (35:06) are remixes of the mini-game and world 8 themes from Super Mario Bros 3, respectively, while Faster Than All (31:58) seems to take heavy inspiration from the Slide theme from Super Mario 64.
I can listen to this all day, this was my favorite game back then.
Definitely feels like a throwback to some of Mario RPG's themes in this soundtrack! (Particularly the version of Mario's theme 3:48 compared to "Mario's Pad", 33:02 vs. underground path to Yo'ster Island, 42:17 in relation to Bowser's Keep)
The way the dice is positioned always makes me read this box as Mario Party 3

Is it just me, Option House Song @6:33 always made me think of some 420 blaze it Toad, especially with the green chill AF Toad being the character in that room.
I remember the laugh in the beginning of it used to crack me up when I was little. I would just go to the option house just to hear it. This game brings back so many memories.
Yea cuz it's old school hip hop I think. I don't know why we think that sounds like smoking weed though. Maybe through association? Or cuz it's laid back?
The Option house is the coolest thing ever! Would love for them to use such chill vocals in some songs again.

Never played this game during my N64 days sadly.
Did however play it for the first time a little over 3 years ago with my pregnant sister at my little brothers place, it was her first kid she was having so it was a special time.
2021 I played it a little after Halloween for the second time with my sister AND her 3 year old son, which was a magical time.
So now this soundtrack is forever cemented in my head with good feelings and good memories.

I realized just now that the Magma Mountain part of 43:30 is Bowser's castle theme from Super Mario RPG XD
theres nothing sad about this game whatsoever (besides the aftermath) but.. i just had a long listen to this and couldn’t help but just tear up a shit ton every time my brother would pull out a controller for me and my mom to play this on family game nights.. now no one even has time to talk and the only thing lifted by my brother is a phone or a pen to work on digital art.
I've never played the others Mario party of n64, but considering the ones from gamecube, wii, wiiu, even the new in switch, I think this is the best.

Eternal Star is my favourite (yes even over Mario's Rainbow Castle and Yoshi's Tropical Island). I wish I had known about that map when I played the game as a kid! There's no way I'd ever have the patience to collect 100 stars by myself LOL

Yasunori Mitsuda composed the music for this game (he composed for Chrono Trigger and Xenoblade Chronicles, among many other titles), and I recall him saying he hated composing for this game, primarily because the developers weren't really clear about what they wanted out of him, and ended up rejecting over 100 compositions he made for this game. He was so frustrated he almost quit. I deeply sympathize, but I really love the music that ended up making the cut, great stuff!
My favorite soundtrack in the Mario Party series
I absolutely remember when Bowser stole all the stars from the bank. That terrified me as a kid because I"m busy having fun and thinking the menu is just where I go to have my next romp with my brother. Then Bowser's giant foot prints are all over the place and my security is completely out the window....good times.
