    That first story about the racist meme video? That was an apology. There's a lot of shitty apology videos from bigger creators around right now, with the crying and apologising and taking things back and saying they didn't mean it and all that, and it feels superficial and insincere. This, this story here, is how you do an apology video. As a minority who knows exactly what the black guy was feeling throughout all of that from my own experiences, as far as I'm concerned, that was a proper apology. You thoroughly acknowledged what you did wrong, you said why it was wrong, you got input from the wronged community, you didn't excuse anything, and you didn't make it about you. That is an apology that I completely believe and if I were the wronged party, I (personally) would be willing to accept it. People grow and change, and this is a clear example of that.

      @@isaywhateveriwantandyougot7421 yes you can, you can find out people have been problematic and say "hey, thank you for the apology but I no longer want to be associated with your content/community" you don't have to accept an apology to acknowledge it. If J.K Rowling suddenly apologized for being a transphobic twat who heavily contributed to the FART community, I would acknowledge her apology and stand by that I want nothing to do with anything she's ever created because her actions have negatively affected me personally and my fellow trans people. Hey Tom,
    I'm white so I can't accept your apology for the racism as it's not my place. However, I am Bisexual (and trans, but that's not the point), and I accept your apology for the homophobia. Obviously I don't speak for the wider LGBT+ community, but seeing what you do now, the pride flavour shirt, the I like trans shirt, supporting LBGT+ people and generally just being a solid dude (as in a good man, not physically solid lol), I think you've made amends. Yes, it was MASSIVELY fucked up for you to do, but you've learnt your lesson. You're doing better now.
    I've been a fan since I was 13 (I'm now 18), and I'm glad to see you've made the active decision to become a better person. I still support you in the things you do now, even if ya fucked up in the past.

    Tom, I’m a POC, I’ve watched you for the longest time and never knew you made these remarks. And while they were disgustingly abhorrent and awful in everyway shape or form I simply cannot express how proud I am that you stepped up and said “I did this, it isn’t who I am anymore but if you aren’t okay with supporting me I completely understand”. I knew from the moment you said you were going to be showing these awful things that you did instead of hiding behind them that you had grown and changed as a person and that that isn’t who you are anymore.
    Again, I’m so happy you “exposed yourself” for the negative person you were as opposed to in a way continue being one by hiding this away in a mental vault.

    tom, i've only been following you since 2016 but from what i've seen and what you've put out- you're genuinely trying to make amends, apologise, and move on- not in a way that you want to "sweep everything under the rug", but rather, be a better human being in general. it shocked me, watching "last week", the way you'd handle criticism (e.g. the last week titled "last week i shot a stripper" which upset some sex workers watching) because up til that point i hadn't seen a creator on this platform so freely and easily take criticism on his videos and actions and make amends and want to do what is right by the people watching. instead of just brushing them off and telling them "it's just jokes!" you sat down, took the time to properly reflect how that title could have caused people to be uncomfortable, apologise, and changed the title to something more nondescript. it's so obvious to me and your viewers that you don't "apologise" because you're scared of getting "caught" (because a lot of the stuff mentioned, esp in "last week" could have been so easily swept under the rug and everyone would be none the wiser) but instead because you're genuinely trying to be a better human being and just want to do GOOD. and i can't thank you enough for that. i can't say i'm not disappointed, watching these old videos of yours, but i do know, unlike other creators who've had videos of this nature in their catalogue, you have GENUINELY tried to make amends and right what is wrong- and this video is a prime example of that! in an age where "apology videos" are rife with manipulative tactics, false emotions and insincerities, it warms my heart to see a creator such as yourself being GENUINE and upfront about his past mistakes and failures. and i can't thank you enough. the platform needs more people like you. sending you lots of love tom, i hope you are doing well.

    As someone who falls into both these categories and has watched Tom for years, I am both shocked and appalled about the behaviour that was displayed and the whole, "It was acceptable back then" isn't an excuse. It wasn't acceptable for PoC and LGBTQI+ people.
    This being said, I have seen Tom be an advocate for not only BLM but Gay and Trans rights. Whilst I can't say I know Tom personally, I have met him a handful of times now and acknowledge the apology. He didn't wait to be caught and am still remaining a loyal subscriber and follower.

    Let's be honest, no one is the same as they were 10 years ago, people change and they can better themselves

    Point Number One: This is an admirable example of an apology on the Internet. Tom was never called out for those videos apart from the one person who asked him to take down the Lincoln Hack videos. Rather than apologising because he got caught, he genuinely saw the error of his ways over time and decided to bring them up and apologise for doing it. This is how you apologise.
    Point Number Two: TOM WAS FRIENDS WITH ZACH HADEL?!?!?! I love Zach so that's really cool

    I respect you SOOOO much for this!!! You have grown so much and It's great that you yourself are owning up to those misteps instead of just leaving it. In the words of ad-rock “I'd rather be a hypocrite than the same person forever.”

    You just continue to suprise me man. ive watched everything youve putout since maybe 2011 and have grown alongside your channel. The way you have spoken about your teenage years and the person you were and why you thought this way honestly inspires me. You have shown that even from the most naive and ignorant places on the internet, everyone has room for growth. You have never excused any of your actions i see you take responsibility for past tom time and time again. You as a person go to show that everyone can grow and deserves the right to be better and im proud of the way you have delt with this and all your other past failings. keep it up man, thank you

    Everyone makes mistakes Tom, you’re owning up to them and apologizing for everything you’ve done. If nobody else will say it I will. As a part of the LGBT community I forgive you for everything you’ve done that might’ve offended us. You’ve done so much to support the community and it is going to do no good to continue to lash yourself for it. Just keep up being a better man than you once were. As I always say, perfection is for heroes and god so try to do your best as a human.

    Tom, I accept your apology. As a member of the lgbt community I know for a fact, that most people grow out of homophobia. And watching you in the past few years, how much of an ally you are, it brings me a lot of hope. You were such a role model to me, you helped me through my depression, and taught me its okay to be who I am. And yes, that shit was fucked up, but you are really owning up to it, and you seem genuinely sorry for the things you did. I will still support you.

      I just wonder why almos all youtubers from that time who made comic stuff were homophobic and racist

    • @bensmif
      @bensmif Před 4 lety +4

      @@uselessgamer9978 probably because they all idolised and imitated eachother. youtube was still pretty seperate in style from other types of media at the time, so the main source of inspiration for youtubers was other youtubers. then all it takes is for one person to have that edgy style and it can become the norm.
