Cartegena is a different place. I'm convinced not a lot of Americans travel there because the percentage of locals that speak english is small. The criminals prey on vacationers that catch taxi's. This is good advise, DONT TAKE TAXI'S THERE. Our house guide wouldn't let us take a taxi because of how unsafe it is.
They sell mace and other self defence items all over Colombia and they are not illegal. Second, you have to say yes, lets go to the station and then they will drop it.
@@Floridamuscle Call their bluff. Say OK lets go to the station. No way give them money, go to the ATM or anything. You have to play them out until they see they are getting nothing from you. Don't give them your passport. Carry a photocopy. Whatever they say, insisit on the police station. If you go there, again play it out. Don't pay a bribe in these type of situations. Bribes are only for when you need them.

Never bring mace to a gunfight. That cop probably saved your life confiscating your pepper spray because ladrones in 🇨🇴 have itchy trigger fingers. Smart thinking not carrying all your cash on you that night. 💪🏾Best plan of action is to carry a burner phone. If a stickup kid rolls up on you in Colombia, just give it up. Not worth your life. 💯

Yea we had a taxi driver try to rob us this morning, so we’ve been taking Ubers from now on plus it’s cheaper and no money is exchanged.
Wow! Otherwise, it's a great place. Be safe out there and safe travels back home.

They weren't trying to take me to the station. They were trying to take me to the ATM.
