India's First Walking Street | Church Street Bengaluru | MG Road

- Church Street went traffic-free recently in an experiment that will decide if Namma Bengaluru can have more such options if this one clicks. The idea is to have a totally pedestrian-only experience, without worrying about honking cars. Weekends are the chosen days when Church Street becomes free of vehicles and is converted into a 'pedestrian-only' space.
Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa officially inaugurated the initiative ‘Clean Air Street’ project by the Directorate of Urban and Land Transport (DULT) along with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) where the street will be open to only pedestrians on weekends, till February 2021.
The artists have taken over the street and the outdoor seating of restaurants is giving it a distinctly European feel. The street was packed, what with the pleasant weather the city has been seeing over the past few days. A group of around 15 musicians from the Madras Engineering group was seen performing their musical routine in their band attire. Another group was performing skits to create and spread awareness about the virus and public safety.
During the weekends, restaurants and cafeterias situated here are allowed to extend seating on pavements on Saturday and Sunday.

Not to mention the unforgiving weather and the immigrants from war torn countries making it less safe than before. Atleast in India people can save up while earning moderate wages. It's isn't always moonlight and roses in the west.

I have visited this place several times and seen many things specially guitar players . I might visit this spot again.
I lived in Bangalore until 1986 when I moved to the US. Going to the British Council library and then a walk down Church Street, with college friends was a special treat. The number 1 reason was Rumali's restaurant. We visited in 2020, just before the pandemic shut down the world, and went to Brigade Road, but I regret not walking down Church Street. Is Rumali's still there?

Awesome......out of everything in my lovely city, a pedestrian only street was the only thing missing. In my opinion they should also convert commercial Street of Bangalore also into a shopping street without vehicles too....That would be the ultimate...... 👍

I tried to comprehend how "not knowing Kanadda" is harming the land, culture or anything for that matter.
Above all, I consider myself an Indian. This I learned and accepted after I started traveling and as a matter of fact, we are a country of 1000s of languages. One can't be expected to learn and know each and every language. It's not a matter of pride, but a matter of fact.
Also, if I have to talk about natives, then I come from Haryana and well versed with Hindi and Punjabi but when it comes to CZcams, I am more comfortable with Hindi and English.

1.All South Indians have to cumpolsorily study Hindi as a subject.
2. Some people might suggest others to learn Kannada , its upto you to take suggestion or leave it.
3. When the title says bengaluru obviously Kannadigas will click it and expect some Kannada to hear, thats normal.
4.And if you think this is imposing please read my first point because that will be imposing too...
5.And I do know Hindi and I think it is important to learn but no one should force it.
6. And people from North India should stop expecting us to speak in Hindi when they are in our state...if we know we speak or else we might chose other language like our Kannada or English or just sign language...
