Not the same feeling at all when comparing Russian anthem and USSR anthem. I was born in USSR , in Kiev, have lived in the States for over 30 years. Sometimes Russia will win something and its anthem will play, but I just shrug. However, if an old Soviet anthem, which exactly the same melody as the current Russian one, plays like in this video, it is a different story, it is a completely different feeling - makes me want to get up and salute. lol It is nostalgia more than anything is associated with the music.

And the British Empire distinguished itself by the fact that it lasted until 1996.

And Sly Stallone wrote a little action film about fighting side by side with his good friends the Mujahideen (who went on to become the Taliban)... called 'Rambo'. Of course no one boycotted the west when they invade Afghanistan.

Mascow was a capital of USSR. Now it's the capital of Russia. USSR was collapsed in 1991.
