- How to make a flower arrangement using a plastic drink bottle - emergency container!
Ingredients - small or large plastic drinks bottle, iris flowers, hosta leaves, variegated flag iris foliage, 2mm flexible aluminium wire
This design came about because I needed to create a few giveaway designs with left over flowers at an exhibition.
The flowers weren’t the problem, but what container to use. Well, the one thing that was there was plastic drink bottles - and they actually make a good container with a little imagination!

I love how you take the viewers along through your entire process when you create your arrangements; watching you step by step during your creative process is so helpful and refreshing in an age where everything seems to move so fast.
Thank you! It’s a bit like cooking, you have the ingredients and then the method in logical order! 👨🍳
Looks great and wonderful reuse of a bottle.
A water bottle & a twig for a footing... WOW. I can do this, thank you! Now to finish off that diet coke, grab my pruning shears & raid hubby's tool chest for some wire & the back yard for some fresh blooms & greenery, no trip for supplies needed! I adore something from nothing projects like this! (not sure how I landed on your video this morning, but it is just what my day needed--thank you!)
Thank you so much 😊 I hope you have fun creating! And you already have the bottle!
Always love your designs, thank you 🙏
Thank you 😀
Marvelously creative!
😀 Thank you!
So very clever!
Thank you!
Well John , at first I thought ….thats it…the boy has finally gone mad😅 but what a lovely surprise….such a gorgeous wee design…thank you for sharing your knowledge…im on a Scottish 🏴 peninsula and really rely on supermarket flowers …I can definitely do this design ❤
😀 thank you! I might tip at some point 😂 I bet you have beautiful scenery there. This little design doesn’t need much flowers, but it shows them off well.
A perfect example of less is more! What a fun design, John. I admit to having been hesitant at first but you won me over. The iris are wonderful! Thanks, Friend!
Thank you! It’s kinda cute this little arrangement 😀 I think a series of them running down a long table would look great as well. Have a good week! 🌼😀
I adore your Japanese inspired arrangements 🌷❤
Thank you 😀 that’s good feedback 🌼
Your creativity is absolutely endless! Love it!
Thank you 🤩
What a fun arrangement. Funnily enough my son gave me a couple of bunches of chrysanthemums in a 2L coke bottle which he cut a third off from the top. He doesn't have any vases. So he put the flowers in some water and there you are - an unbreakable vase.
Omce again, a very nice job.
Thank you so much! Yes, we don’t need to be stuck for a vase with these bottles, and they can be decorated to suit as well. I have seen paper sleeves made to go on the outer of a bottle and that was a fun vase idea as well.
Simple and beautiful.
Thx for sharing.
Please do a design with gardenia flowers whenever you can, thx.
Greetings from Queens, NY.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤.
Thank you 😊
Now that’s something I don’t have, gardenia, but I will keep an eye out for them. Greetings to the big 🍏
Great idea

Just gorgeous, Mr. John!
Always love your work!
Did you hide "the mechanics" of this arrangement?
Thank you 😀 the volume of the plant material hides the mechanics - but it’s possible to cover or wrap the bottle and make a prettier version, but as it is is kinda cool 😎
Great idea - looks fantastic
😀 Thank you!
That is brilliant. Thank you.
Thank you 😊
Are there any ikebana teachers / classes in Gloucestershire please ?
You best advice is to do an internet search - so if for Sogetsu for example their school headquarters list study groups in different countries, or a Facebook search was how I found my teacher! There are different styles of ikebana so you might want to see what style you like and find a teacher based on that as well.
