    Outstanding video, to all those whining about various aspects of the install not being covered, watch it on half speed a few times and have a practice on some scrap materials. The video has to assume you have at least some aptitude as it's a short video. Otherwise get a quote from a qualified fitter, have a good cry then go about your day.

    They installed the screen at the edge of the tiles! Then didnt silicone behind the wall channel? They're 100% going to get a damp wall

      My guess would be that silicone that's constantly in contact with water will turn black with mould in about 12 months whereas the silicone on the outside would only occasionally have to block water from seeping through the shower area and would stay dry and clean looking for far longer.

      I like to tape up before attaching the aluminium, give you a straight line to work to and then I add silicone when finally screwing on. Form out silicone bith sides, remove tape, neat lines with barrier where it really counts.

    never seen a panel that has the aluminum strip on it....we normally put the raw glass into the wall U CHannel......how come it has that aluminum strip? for protection of bouncing? Did the glass have a hole in the base to apply that bracketon the floor?

    • @DiyMoviesSA

      The unit was pre-made and included a hole in the glass.

  • @robertfong-mow7235

    How did you drill hole in glass? Is there a special bit for drilling in glass? Thanks.

    • @martinwinlow
      @martinwinlow Před 4 lety +1

      This sort of glass must be 'toughened' for safety, a heat treating process that puts the internal structure of the glass under quite severe stress. This makes the glass must stronger, rather unintuitively. However, it also means that, post-toughening, *any* attempt to 'change its shape' eg by drilling a hole, results in the internal stresses being 'released' and the glass will catastrophically fail. Thus, any holes (eg for door handles) or radii on corners, or shapped hinge cut-outs for the special hinges must be done prior to toughening ie in the factory.

    • @robertfong-mow7235
      @robertfong-mow7235 Před 4 lety

      So when he was drilling into aluminum chanel It was into metal bracket on wall.

    • @martinwinlow
      @martinwinlow Před 4 lety +2

      @@robertfong-mow7235 Unusually, the glass appears to come with a pre-fitted alu cap which then fits neatly into the alu channel screwed to the wall. The drilling at 01.22 appears to be the pre-fitted channel to wall channel attachment - glass is not drilled.

      @DiyMoviesSA  Před 7 měsíci

      Yep. Using a sharp quality drill bit is essential. Once the holes are drilled and the screen is fitted it's unlikely that the the tiles will break. But if you're unsure get in a pro to do the installation.
