These people represent Goodyear therefore Goodyear has a responsibility to manage their franchise .
In some ways, you're right. However...they don't have direct liability because it's not a fully owned corporate store.
Basically, she had the car towed to the shop then abandoned it. Are you expecting shops to keep cars forever?
@@bobroberts2371Well that’s where good communication comes in. “Mam we can’t keep your car here.” Simple as that.
@@divi1223 And when the car owner refuses to pick it up after it was sitting there for a year? When a car owner refuses to authorize repairs or pay for repairs, the shop can't force them to take the car. There is about zero incentive for the car owner to do anything.
Goodyear has no control over a "franchise"
The affected parties should file a lawsuit before the suspects and Goodyear start to lawyer-up. If you have documentation that your car was in their possession, you might have a case.
Depends on how long it took for her to pay her bills, this was last year. They may have had every right to sell her car for Money owing.
@@oxyfee6486There is a legal process to navigate though. Did the business follow it?
@@oxyfee6486 They are required by MI law to give the owner a notice with 30 days to pay before they can enforce the lien at public sale.
Sell my truck i will send the SSSilent SSShazam debt collection agency
A case against who though? The folks that are going to jail? She won't see a dime.
Car repair shops stealing cars & over charging customers. Horrible
Time for you to open a shop and do a better job, should be easy $ no?
@@bobroberts2371 - Easier than stealing people's cars? Probably pretty easy to do better than that, yeah.
@@pete1853 It looks like she abandoned the car. When someone leaves a car at a shop and refuses to pick it up, just shat should a shop do? Besides, a car that brings $ 300 in scrap is hardly a big business.
@@bobroberts2371agreed
@@bobroberts2371Yep. $2500 repair on a Pontiac - so basically the car is totalled. Plus, the longer it sits there the more damage it accumulates (could be water damage, fuel starts corroding, tires, etc.) + are they just supposed to store it for free til she "comes up with the money"??
Unfortunately, the car has probably been scrapped already. The shop can put a mechanics'' lien on the car(for storage or repairs) and sell it free and clear after so much time passes. If they did not follow the notification processes, then she might have a case. But, if they are bankrupt, she may still be left with nothing.
Thank you!!!! All these shame on the company. You know she dodged that phone call. They didn’t say how long it sat there.
Exactly
Yes. Some shops have signs posted about not picking up your car and that it may be sold for storage costs. But I imagine it's one of the last things on a shops agenda.
Pay closer attention to reviews. Not all shops with big names are reputable.
SHAME on Goodyear for not overseeing their franchise. SURELY they are aware of that many serious complaints directed at the same branch.
This is so true if the people are shady they should have to leave the company name.
You're right. Goodyear should have investigated.
definitely some type of negligence
It's not Goodyear fault get that straight first of all
@@Almightycreator888 its their franchise with their company name on it, so yes it is goodyears fault
Sorry, but the lady should have towed the car to her house from Good Year if she didn't have money for the repairs. You can't just leave your car at a shop indefinitely until you come up with the money to fix it.
True but the repair was obligated to notify her.
@@eligebrown8998people who owe money don’t answer the phone. There is a lot fees that add up and your car can be taken especially if you don’t answer the phone.
Ya.... they left that time line out of this story. Atypical of the media.
Facts but aren’t they suppose to charge you day by day? Or is there a certain date if the customer doesn’t get their car the shop owns it? I swear I seen that somewhere 😭
It's pretty fitting that they got a big gorilla on top of the Goodyear building wearing sunglasses and yellow shorts ready to throw a car to the wind.

To be honest an 05 pontiac is definitely a junker.
I see a lot of 18 year old vehicles on the rode today. 20 is the new 10.
@@MisterMikeTexas OK
@@MisterMikeTexas notice I said pontiac but you can make it fit your point it's cool.
@@themoviebaySorry! I'm from the time Pontiacs had a good reputation and were all rear-wheel-drive.
They been scammers
*Goodyear lends legitimacy and trust with their name on the building. They inarguably share blame in an incidence like this!*
Was it a $2,500 repair QUOTE or did she authorize a $2500 repair without having funds? If it was a quote, then all she might owe was storage, assuming she made that arrangement. After a period, the car is abandoned. Still, the disposal notice must be delivered.
That car itself is probably worth $2500
@@eriq54321 This clowns legal advice isn't worth three fiddy.
@@Look_What_You_Didno he's right. I'm a mechanic myself so I've seen it happen. If you approve repairs without the money to pay you will be charged storage for everyday it sits. We only have to do that for 90 days. After that we file a lien for the title and then usually sell the vehicle at auction. Stop being poor
@@bammiracle4192 Your legal advice isn't worth three fiddy either.

Nothing like a little local news broadcast that tells us nothing.
This is the way.
This reporting let you know of the situation existing (you noted in the story that the raid brought to the surface many similar peoples involvement with those repair shops). It typically takes some days weeks and months for the legal story to play out to its resolution and the information you expect immediately will get revealed (and you know that).
That car must have held alot of sentimental value because even if it was the GXP version in great condition it was only worth about $4k.
I'm avoiding Goodyear like the plague.
Why did the news report fail to mention just how long it took her to get the $2500? There has to be a limit on how long they will hold someone's car.
I just lost 2 1/2 minutes of my life watching this report about nothing. Why was the business raided? And is the lady getting her car back? Terrible report🤔🙄
NO LIE! 30 years ago, same Goodyear on Gratiot and 7 my ex took his Jeep for small repair. A while later his nephew saw his uncle's Jeep crashed on a flatbed and called him to see if he was ok. Ex was like 'huh. what are you talking about?' Ex had been sitting waiting on them to finish his Jeep and waiting for them to call him. Employee took his Jeep for a joyride and got into a bad accident.
😂 they test drive vehicles to diagnose problems or ensure repairs are safe. While it sucks the jeep was wrecked accidents happen.
This is true, but this was different. He was _testing_ and crashed on the west side of Detroit. Goodyear is east side. That was a helluva test drive.😂 @@NavyVet4955
That's not the only Goodyear raided that day. Multiple stores in our area were raided simultaneously....all owned by the same guy. I know 11/Gratiot was raided too. Someone said 5 stores total.
Remember the one at 12 Mile and Utica was raided a few years ago too.
The biggest excuse you'll hear from the corporate offices is that they are individually owned franchises so they skip doing the right thing or even revoking the franchise. Well that doesn't fly because the name of Mr. Smith or Mr. Jones is not on the signs in font or the top of the building, it's the corporation name. I've had a few places that gave me that excuse like Days Inn, which I used to stay at all the time in different states but haven't since I had a problem with one. They have lost probably well over $10,000 of my business in the past 20 years.
Cold day in hell when a company steals and sells my car.
When Goodyear tries to be like Goodfellas…
Nothing to do with auto repair..but I once was in the waiting room of a doctors office when it was swarmed by people in suits and the police. They were speaking so quietly and the staff acted so calm that I didn't even have enough common sense to wonder what the h*ll was going on. So I just sat there hoping they would hurry up and finish so my appointment could get going 😅. Turned out it was a computer hack that the FBI was investigating.
My take away from this is Goodyear sent you a check to do this story and say they are in no way affiliated with them.
Rewind to last year when she had to have her 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix towed to the Goodyear a few miles up the road on Gratiot and Eleven Mile in Roseville.
"$2,500," she said.
That’s how much it was going to cost to get fixed, an unexpected expense. It took a little while for her to come up with the money. In the article, it reads that she took awhile to come up with the money, maybe she did not pay the storage fees , which Goodyear then should have put a lien on the car, and she should have been notified. Will be interesting to see how it turns out.
Sounds to me like she wasn't able to pick up her car on time. And if you're not able to pick your car up on time they will try to send it to a junkyard. For Salvage. Sounds to me like the other events are mutually exclusive.❤
Yep. Doubt she ever paid them n she couldn't remove the car from there lot.
I love how that’s just how Detroit operates. Scam , corruption, drugs what a place
Michigan too.
This story is weird AF. 🤷
absolutely
No, it’s not.
@@skunyon6195 so are you
Car repair shops can’t house hundreds of abandoned junk autos. Eventually they have to get rid of it and use auto to recoup unpaid storage fees.
And that is kind of the problem with franchises here in the United States. They pay franchise fees to corporate to use the name and the products, but they're managed by individual business owners that run it the way they see fit. Sometimes really good and sometimes not.
In Morgan Freeman's voice " And thus It was NOT a Good Year for Kimberly Foster " ..........
Sounds like they Junked her car when they stiffed them on the payment, Car repair places are not banks tho good year does have credit I could not afford my brake job and new tires so charged it. Was around same amount she owed wonder why they didn't go this route.
Goodyear has a poor reputation here & other cities. NEVER use this company!
Last year she left her car there. It took her a while to get the bucks. They sold it for sure. I know at my shop if you don’t come pick it up after 6 months of waiting and no communication. It’s sold… it’s not our job to find you or to hunt you down. If you cared about it you’d pay your bill.
I feel like this story coulda been told in a linear fashion just fine
Wow, why does anyone still live there ?
The police won’t do anything and she won’t get any compensation, assistance, and her car was effectively stolen.
if she didn't pay, this story is nothing because it would mean that they eventually seized the vehicle to make their money back. If she paid for repairs and was simply trying to retrieve it and showed up to nothing in the lot wondering where it is,then the cops can help her in terms of earning compensation for the lost car and maybe shut the store down.
It doesn't matter if it's a franchise or not people take their care there because they trust the name Goodyear . So they are responsible for the actions of their franchisees.
In a better world.
Goodyear has standards of practice that should be met to be a franchise owner and a police raid shouldn't be when Goodyear finds out their franchisee is breaking the law and scamming customers. Not throwing Goodyear under the bus, dumbest thing I've heard in awhile!
They quoted me $5K to fix my exhaust and do an inspection. I had a clean break after the catalytic converter, they wanted to replace the entire exhaust system front to rear, $3K for just that. They also want3d to replace my entire brake system, rotors, disks, pads, all which I already replaced within the last 6-12 months, for another $2K. I fixed everything and got inspected somewhere else, cost me a total of $130. Place is a rip off.
Bruh tripping on a grand prix
This happens a lot
Be aware when they say they will check it out for free especially at transmission shops they won't tell you that they are taking it completely apart and say this is the problem and give you a price to fix it more than your car is worth in good condition when you say no put my car back together they will demand half of that price to put it back together unfixed and you say no to that your trans or engine which ever is to be worked on will be put in your trunk whether you drove it there or not you are definitely towing it out or if left for 30 days they charge you storage fee or even claim it abandon and sell it as is beware
Liar. That is not how it works.
@@Look_What_You_Did what's wrong I'm busting you out or something I knew and plenty of people who got burned just the way I said I know because it happened to me twice at two different shops on of the shop's even tried to sell me a Cadillac somebody left because they couldn't come up with the money and I'm sure someone else will agree because it happened to them too

here is what Kimberly SHOULD have done.
The day AFTER she couldn't find her car, FILE SUIT
Never go to Goodyear for a tire repair. They'll always say it isn't repairable and turn that one once tire plug into a whole tire. They'll shove it down your throat and out of your wallet, crooks. At least that's what happens in Waianae, HI.
Yeah these are the people that AAA said you too if they took two of my cars and then they said some goons to my house threatening me tell me you better be thankful for what you got not what you lost
Goodyear is at the top of the list for not ever taking your car there.
This was probably a wild shop not even affiliated with Good Year. Everything is collapsing in America
Imagine spending ANY of your hard earned dollars in that toilet known as Detroit.
Bet you it's not a American citizen own that Goodyear we know who owns it and what they stand for
That would make it even easier to shut down. An American can fight back, but some ethnic stereotype foreigner is a dead duck.
Goodyear should have a percentage of liability.
Goodyear threw themselves under the bus. Poor management has consequences!
"Okay, the work is done, That'll be $2500."
"Okay, here ya go, now where's my car?"
"We sold it to the scrap yard six months ago for $300."
"Okay, thank you, have a nice day!"
"You too!"
😂😂
That's how it goes . People think shops are free storage nope think again foh
Sounds about right, that's why I had my son get his car back from them, charged a lot of money, car still not running , that place needs to be shut down
As somebody who deals with cars and people IN DETROIT, I’m just wondering how long did she leave the car and how much did she PUT DOWN when she left it. They didn’t seem to mention none of that. I wonder why. 🤔
Towing yard operators have a very strong lobby, the laws they push thru r unreal!! It is legalized extortion. Sometimes
Did a pre-schooler write the headline?
You deal with anything in Detroit or surrounding areas you going to get got
That is just so sad.
It's definitely goodyear business and a Goodyear corporate problem. They need to sort it out and make these goodyear customers whole
If that was a real picture of her car on the tow truck it looks like it's a total loss,,,
Scamming people is not the way to go. Heard of karma?
They say this has nothing to do with "Goodyear" but the big sign out front says otherwise. Maybe they shouldnt just hand out their name willy nilly?
there are lots of grand prix for sale for 2500 or less
Good year is a rip off, took my car in for a simple exhaust pipe repair and inspection, thry wanted to charge me $5K for a comple exhaust system replacement and complete brake job, rorors, calupers, pads, all which I replaced less than a year earlier. Fixed everything myself for $100 and passed inspection. They pulled the same shit on our corporate fleet vehicles on our trucks when i worked for Nextel, brand new vehicles with 12,000 niles needing over $2K plus worth of work. Never would take a car there again.
God bless Detroit! I hope the good people get done right, good year needs to make things right
Not Detroit....
It's Detroit--- what did you expect????
Facts
...And this is why I work on my own vehicle.
Sue Good Year corporate.
I own an auto repair shop in Akron Ohio, and it is a big problem with people just leaving the car because they do not want to repair it or can not afford to, yes it seems this shop was doing some shady things, so this may not apply , but what i do now if it is an older car that could need a lot of work I get the title before I start any work, that takes the customer out of the repair, then after repairs are done they can buy the car back for the cost of parts and labor
How long did her car sit there while she came up with 2500 for a car you buy for that? Most shops call it abandoned after 120 days…
Goodyear or any other business/ corporation ar happy selling their name but they do not want any responsibility, WTF, they should also be hold responsible
I knew this was on the EastSide
I worked for them and to be honest they are selling stolen parts
Fix your problems instead
of asking for more .
The repo man can literally magnet your car and scatch it while you're getting gas, but you don't have the power to break down that lot's gate and get your car back?
It is bad operation like that gives tow Company and repair shop bad name. Way too much of this going on. It is good too hear the police are doing their job. At least on this one.
I have learned that when you go to big name places more homework is needed. I have been shafted more than one time because I went places that were brand name. Not all of these places are like that some are great but you have to do your home work.

Dude, where’s my car?
The woman's car went and nothing ever came of it? What does that even mean? The auto repair shop steals your car and nothing can be done? Time to take matters into your own hands at that point.
At this point, Good Year is definitely under the bus because they are operating under the Good Year banner. Franchised or not! Good Year needs to step up! Just my opinion.
Looks like her car needed to go to MAACO not Goodyear.
A similar thing happened in Arlington, Tx where I needed work done to my car and it was minor work. The dude told me that my car was “totaled”when I drove it up there and said he’s put it in the system as totaled.
He said he would give me $5,000 for the car. I said I guess because I needed to go get something. I came in to get the money and he said he was going to give me $1,000.
I told him that this was unacceptable and that he needs to honor what he originally told me. He said either I take the thousand or take the car back which will be considered un-drivable being he has it in the system as totaled.
Needless to say I got screwed out of that situation.
Why not call the police?
@@mekhig.9350 What would they do.
It’s done and over with now.
I was just getting a divorce when I found out on my birthday my wife cheated on me and took our daughter. Our mortgage payments weren’t getting paid because she was paying off her college. Had to deal with the foreclosure alone, with no help from the bank.
So I had to find a car, get an apartment, and pay child support. Getting the car thing situated with the police was bottom of list.
I don't think you should believe some idiot telling you. Your car is totaled or that they put anything in the system that they're liable for, The police should have been involved immediately

because its the State Police, if it were up to the DPD there be nothing
Didn't this lady have collision coverage, at least? Any news on what the raid was about?
This probably wouldn't have happened if she had an insurance adjuster involved. They would have pulled the car immediately or sent it to their legal team if the repair shop was being difficult. What probably happened is that she let the car sit there for a while, and they charged her storage per day. At a certain point, they would legally own the vehicle and could scrap it. It can be a very shady practice because these places can charge a ridiculous amount per day if they want.
May want to consider placing a tracking device on your vehicle. Apple tag or other device/service.

Never had good luck at a Good Year service center, over priced repairs, not showing me the old parts, etc, etc. I once I fixed my car by myself after their computer said I have a bad MAP sensor, turns out it was a heat sensitive ignition module, and they charged me $50 for a wrong diagnoses.
