- The former head of Afghanistan's intelligence says Pakistan has supported the Taliban for years and in 2007, he says, his information pinpointed Osama bin Laden 12 miles from where American forces killed him last week. Lara Logan reports.

See its simple. Pakistan's and United States' (and by extension, afghan) natinal interests don't coincide. Just like United States works for the acievement of its goals in the region, its only understandable that Pakistan works for theirs. The whole region is in a state of war, and all actors must utilize every tool available to come on top. Whether its insurgency, deceit or reserved alliances. This is not some Boy Scout competition. This is an actual multi-dimensional war. Pakistan cannot afford to have a government in Afghanistan that is pro-India, otherwise its very existence is at risk. Thats why they support an islamist government who won't side against muslims (Pakistanis) and help non-muslims (Indians).

Btw Pakistani Taliban are known as TTP, and they are actually state enemies. They led a very bloody insurgency in tribal regions before they were defeated by Pakistan army.

@@mariamsarag5672 Not really. The Taliban were actually trained by CIA to counter the Soviet invasion. After the Soviet were defeated, Taliban came into power. They were the government. Pakistan was not brainwashing anyone. They were Afghan, and they ruled their country. American invasion of Afghanistan changed all that. Pakistan continued to extend it's support to the exiled government (Taliban). If you invade someone's country, they will retaliate. No need to brainwash anyone. And my original contention still holds, there's no moral code in war. Just victory.
