- David Grissom is one my favourite guitar players. I even have one of his PRS DGT Guitars.
Find him @DavidGrissomguitar
Thanks for the licks David!
The full interview with Paul Reed Smith is here: • Paul Reed Smith Storms... - Hudba
Great idea, more of these little mini lessons please, I love your playing
Thank you! YT Shorts seems like a great format for this kind of stuff! Now we know it works, we can do more. Hahahaha! Thanks again.
Totally agree, on both counts!
@@ThatPedalShow yess more of these please! Sooo many licks id like to steal from both you guys!!
@@ThatPedalShow yes please do more of theses!!
That “did you thank David” line was one of the funniest things I’ve heard Paul say
“Mick’s Licks” needs to be a regular thing 🤟
I'd love seeing more of these shorts about the licks you guys like to play
My thoughts exactly 🎉
Yes yes yes
Oh yes please do that 🙄😎😏
Love David Grissom's playing, great riff, Thank You.
Yes! Awesome. Love your playing and delighted to steal little nuggets like this! Thank you 😃
Everytime, you does this Double-Stop Special, I loved it. You made it to yours - lovely
More of these please. Loads of fun 🤩
I know you guys were reticent to play the shorts game, but nuggets like this are ace and don’t detract from your integrity. Keep them coming!
Thank you kindly. If we can do em properly we’re all in! :0)
Agree…more lessons on their playing interludes would help me tons…like what is the chord played at the intro? I think Mic was doing it a couple of times in the reverb pedal episode recently released. I will be stealing this Grissom lick shamelessly. Thanks Mick and Dan!
This is excellent!! Please do more quick lessons!
Yep agree with most of the comments. Don’t usually like shorts but this is a great way to do them if you have to!! 😊
Thank you Mick for sharing so clearly 💗😊👍
Love that, thank you !!!
Ya killin’ us with these Shorts Mick! ✊️🎸✨
This is the perfect way to do shorts. Love your guys's licks but never know how to learn them / find them. More please!!!!
Yes! Same!!
Also bending the m3 towards the M3 an Octave above the Root.
That is one of the most insightful guitar counterpoint/dissonance licks/tricks I've ever heard of! I am absolutely blown away by how simply but accurately you described the rationale behind it. Keep being awesome :)
Ha! I love that you’ve posted this. I literally watch every episode and wait for the moment you play this riff 😂
That DGT has to be high on the list for the best sounding guitar ever on the show. It's always magic.
You’ll enjoy this Friday’s video then…. :0)
Thanks for the tip. So looking forward to the DGT SE ...
Looks great doesn't it?!
Digging the new shorts 🩳- can’t wait for summer ❤🎉
Awesome tip Mick!
I’ve listened to you play this lick over and over since the earliest TPS eps, and as many times as I’ve tried to watch how you did it, I have failed to suss it out! Thanks, Mick, for completing my quest! And Grissom rules.
Loving these shorts! This is a great lick, thanks
More of these licks pls !
I love your playing. You are great.
Thank you very much!
Ah it's so good to see you on my shorts feed! Feels like bumping into an old friend in the pub!
Saw you doing this back over the summer and spent 5-10 minutes rewinding, watching, listening, and trying and failing until I got it right. Then this short popped up today. Could have learned it in ONE minute. 😂
Yes keep these up! I would love to learn some Micks and Dans traditional licks !
Thank you!!!!
Very cool, Mick! Nice mini lesson. :)
Great idea for content! Love this concept. Very quick thing, but fun and easy to apply. And I bet people have noticed this thing in every episode. These are the little things that just makes your playing sound that one step further.
I’m taking that! This should be a regular thing. Legend
Always loved that great dissonant lick. Small hands so play a root of C (G string 5th fret) and kind of double bend with the F#. Still sounds nice. Otherwise, play the A root with my index and bend with pinkie, and then combine it with another lick from you Mick, so thanks for all.
Midnight Oil’s song “Only The Strong” uses this to great effect.
Thanks for the share, Mick! Happy New Year!!
Thanks Mick
Nice. Big fan. You’ve played that lick enough for all of us.
Bending in to a implied dominant 7 sound. I’m stealing this now myself!!!
Sooo doing that .. after Work of course 🤣😂 ... Thanks Mick 🙂✌️
This is fantastic, thanks for sharing!
I love david grissom!! Thank you!
I'm not a big fan of shorts, but you guys are doing great ones. Keep 'em coming, thanks!
By god there it is, I can’t wait for some of dans new jazz licks haha
Haha yess
Not sure they’re possible in 1 minute, but let’s try!
@@ThatPedalShow the stuff I’ve seen Rick beato pull haha- Mick and Dan I think are actually very natural teachers, I’d love some more videos about playing- like dans gilmour phrasing vlog, or even some srv tendencies!
And I stole it from you 😂. Love the shorts!
YES!
Grissom ROCKS! OK… And so do you…
This is great
This was pretty good, mick! I’ll check these out and leave likes. Glad to see you kept the top on
Hahahaha!
This may also be advertised as testing the cool factor of your gain clipping. If you can pull the lick, it'll reveal tasty tone, or it'll sound like a Hello Kitty Squier thru a Gorilla amp.
Love this concept! I’d love to see more like this, too.
I love little tips like this, there are some familiar places you go to (like the rest of us) that could make for great similar videos but I don't want to upset you by suggesting any hahaha.
We’ll get to them I hope!
Check out the two Mellencamp albums that Grissom played on in the 90s
Thats cool! I'm going to have a go at this!😊👏👏
Loving the shorts, I know it's for the algorithm, but they're great content
It started that way, now we’ve come to love them for what they can do!
Heyy 1st tps shorts! You go guys! Great! Lets pump these numbers!
Yeah, these are some tasty licks he's been hiding from us
Sounds like a slower "I gotsta get paid"
Thanks Mick! I'll give it a go (and endlessly fuck it up 🤣)
It'll always be the Mick bend, to me
Ah, the thumb. I’ve been trying to figure out what you were doing for a while.
Love this!
Paul Reed Smith sounded like Larry David there.
Got it!
Jay Graydon - Peg solo
00:00 this is great!
Thanks!
back in the "white room" days- mick used to throw in what i think is a Eric Johnson run. it is a series of triplets up the board.... Not being a huge johnson fan i don't know what it is but i always sounded cool to my ear. maybe that could be a quick lesson...
Let’s do that!
Now ya gotta do a Short about the little A lick you do all the time when you're just Listening to what sound a pedal makes. That little budda budda bow bowwah bah bah thingamajig.
I believe he puts his thumb on the "A" or Tonic and with his 3rd finger bends up to the 3rd or maybe both but the 3rd sounds more Country!!!
I nicked this from you! 😂
I will
I’ve always called it the Mick riff 🤣
And after watching you play it for years, I stole it from you Mick! 😂
I think Mick is a really good guitarist despite the humble no show off playing
Yep I stole that a while back ☺
I've seen you multiple times use that in the show ...an I stole it from hearing you use it lol...your attack an approach after using that David lick is inspiration to my ears...🦵ends.
Mayer hates the 6 being played. Lucky you bend it up.... 😝👍🏻
I dig it obv...
sounds like a seasick Steve lick too
Bending from the 6 to the flat 7.
Cool
👍🏿🤘
How do you keep a floating trem equipped guitar like the DGT from pulling the lower note out of tune while you bend?
Because it has quite a stiff action. You’re right that a Floyd or even a two-point Strat trem would go out of tune…. But with 11s and set fairly stiff it just about stays!
Thats doug rappoport licks
Nice tone! Which overdrive did you use?
Probably would have been my Kingsley Juggler MkIII. Cheers!
Root, M6, bend to m7. Interesting. 🤓
Exactly that. I think it was an Alex Lifeson fave too, but not like this!
Along with the info I really appreciate the fading and movement upwards of the font F# to G
:0)
R u hitting the high E (5th fret) too..? 🤔
This is not a right or wrong way just your way
Not so sure…. Sounds like that point in Back to the Future when Michael Fox hits that clinker ….and everything just stops
Is this the 'hateful note' as described by Noel Gallagher???
Affirmative!
Ooh that's pretty tasty
Um.... Who does David Grissom thank for that? He's not *that* old.
Great lick. But just stop that slide up on one string then slide down on another.... It reminds me of that guy in school who claimed to play guitar but when handed a guitar did the latter
David who.... 🙄
Sorry to disagree. I've noticed that pull up you do and find it highly annoying. The dissonance just rubs me the wrong way. Apparently I'm a minority. It does reveal the gain structure pretty well, but I keep thinking "pull up, pull up, pull up!"
