What is it with all of these kids saying; “Now that I’m old”? No, until you’re in your late 60s, at least, you’re not old. I’m 72, and I’m not yet old. So seriously, just stop it.
Secondary comment... Tyler's mention of blacker blacks making a big difference; they SO do! It's long been a downfall of HD LED TVs that most (all?) couldn't give true blacks, and HDR does that well. A lot of the enjoyment of watching movies is subliminal; for me, it's as much the director's vision, the videographer's choices, the soundtrack, and the actors' ability to portray the moment as it is anything else. Most of the benefits of HDR content is absorbed subliminally, and it can go either way. Like editing photos in HDR, you can make a great success or a great failure with just a few adjustments of a slider. Also, the addition of being able to edit in HQ makes the editor's life so much more simple. Stephen nailed it when he said Apple is best at producing equipment that allows people to create better product. Now that these machines are here, they've once again done that, and I'm not at all fearful that my 16" MacBook Pro Max will be a dinosaur any time soon, even with the M2s coming out... I won't have to wait for all my peripheral software developers to adapt to the new chips. Thanks again, guys! You're both awesome.
Great show guys! I just bought my 16" fully spec'd except storage, which I stopped at 2TB, mainly to give me headspace on importing and editing 8K input from my R5 since I can now do that, and don't expect to do so much that I can't edit to my heart's content and save the files to external storage for compilation later. The main thing is that I'll now be able to use my R5 to its fullest potential as it was intended. I "future-proofed" my camera, and now I'm future-proofing my laptop as well as making my camera fully useful. Win-win! Even as I learn about Viltrox and Canon's 0.71x adapter to use Crop Mode in video to add a stop of aperture and grab that center sweet-spot of sensor and lens sharpness, AND get downsampled 5K that rivals 4K HQ but without the threat of overheating - EVER, I'm seeing SO much potential from this machine to be able to use cropping into 8K video to do some creative editing I couldn't do before without loss of video quality on a final downsampled-to-4K video. Amazing tech for a really reasonable price, considering what people have had to pay for desktop computers that couldn't even DO this stuff before! I mean MKBHD's mention of his Mac Pro that cost $50.000 with Afterburner, exporting from FCPX (which he usually does on "Automatic" power mode, but tried on "High Power" mode) exported at 5:42 as opposed to 4:04 on Auto, and 3:49 on High Power! As Marques says... "Jesus!" Almost two minutes faster than his really expensive desktop brawler! Except for the HDMI and SD card reader speeds and not having Face Recognition, it seems Apple has finally been truthful about almost every aspect of these machines being next-level. Apple has always had Canon's "Cripple Hammer" somewhere, but not really this time. I can't wait to start using this machine. You both hit on so many good points in this video; definitely a great resource for info to make me feel better about such a purchase.
Just got my M1 Max. -it's a portable beast, loving it! Looked at the Sony A IV, but I agree with you guys, I'm probably going to go with the R5 now that I have hardware that can transcode the higher quality Canon files!
Do you think I need 32 or 64gb RAM if I'm getting the M1 Max? Using it for wedding video editing. 4k files. Often stack video and audio clips, use layers, Final Cut with Spotify, Chrome, and maybe a Creative Suite app open at a time.
@@MindFloodMedia I got the 64 RAM M1 Max. Working great so far! Glad I went with it, especially with the M1 Ultra coming out. I no longer feel like I have the MOST extreme system, but know it'll handle everything lightning quick with no hesitation. What import settings do you use in Final Cut btw? Are you editing in Pro Res 422 or a higher quality?
@@anderss5913 I only got 32gb RAM, second guessing my decisions but the cost added up quick. I’m using ProRes 422 and would like to occasionally use 422HQ but have been forced to use proxies for a while now.
@@MindFloodMedia Hows the 32gb tracking for you mate? Tossing up between waiting 3 months for a custom 64gb max or picking up the 32gb max in store this week..
57:17 "High refresh rate makes mes sick" God, this is why even now that I am considering an apple product, I can still hardly stand apple fanboys. I can't stand how caught up apple is with high resolution, low refresh rates and this dudeis pretending its better. I call cap.
Admirable that you made it through an hour. People really do perceive refresh rates differently, and although I agree that faster should usually make people less sick, the good vs bad perception of refresh is more subjective than many other specs

💯People these days be thinking once they turn 30, it's as if they're on their death bed. lol
Right! Like they remember the old floppy disks and pagers or when even those things didn’t exist! 😂
U deserve so much more support on your video’s. The work that goes into it is incredible!👍
Also a pro for the 16 inch is the ability to do high power mode
I'd love to see a complete start to finish BTS how you make a classic youtube video

What a gem of a podcast. Loving the enthusiasm and detail you’re bringing to it. Subbed.

I was wondering the same thing. What did you go for? How’s it working out?

I don't really get the argument about the pronouncing of "Macs" and "Max". Those things are called MACbook, not MACSbook. M1 Max Macbook(s). Easy.
What do you call Apple’s M1 series of computers? M1 Macs
