    Kevin and Donny! Thank you so so much for this new series of educational videos! Seriously awesome! I run a small local rescue and breeding business. I am FOREVER looking for good resources to educate and help people wanting to properly keep reptiles. These videos are the answer to my prayers! Clear, concise and actually useful information for people in the hobby. Living in a high mountain desert like Utah, with constantly fluctuating temps and horrible humidity, is not ideal for anything besides California kings and cornsnakes LOL. I can't even tell you how big of a deal you talking about the ambient temp in the room changing is! All of this is pure gold! You literally addressed about 70% of the mistakes that creates the rescue cases I get. I love you both so much for your work on this series! 🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍💜💜💜

    Fantastic video content Kevin with great educational content and really so helpful for people that may have snakes but really don't know all the basics because they don't have enough experience to know these things and how to set things up to benefit each reptile !! Excellent advice on covering those screen or wire mesh tops with clear plastic !!! Big difference in maintaining the humidity also I've found move the water dish a little bit closer to the heat source so the heat can evaporate some of the water and covered with the plastic the evaporating water from the heat turns into humidity inside the enclosure but definitely never place belly heat under a water dish.

    Great video. For my almost 5 year old female ball python I have 2 temperature probes set up in her terrarium with 1 in the heated end and 1 in the cooling end and both are connected to thermostats with 2 separate under tank heating mats. I found that when I kept the hot side at 90F she stopped eating and spent almost all of he time submerged in her water bowl on the cooler side at 80F. When I dropped the temperature on the hot side down to 86.5F she started eating again. I use the 2 under tank heat mats because it can get very cold here in Vancouver, BC and if I turn my furnace up her humidity level drops drastically within an hour. I also am using cypress mulch for her because it held the humidity level higher than the aspen bedding did. I found that the aspen bedding promoted mold growth so I had to clear it out every 2 weeks but the cypress mulch is good for 2 months without breaking down or any mold issues.

    Excellent points regarding the securing of dome heaters, the coverage of the screen top to suit the humidity for the species being kept, and the use of heating in general. Too many CZcams videos show the same setup whether it is a boa/python or a temperate colubrid, and that is unfortunate.

Do you have a place you recommend purchases from? Or are you an Amazon affiliate? You don't list a website for making purchases so I am unsure. I am interested in getting a snake as young as I can. What time of year are the babies available for purchase usually? Sorry for so many questions but I like how you explain everything. Many other youtubers that deal with snake hold you in high regard. I await to hear what Kevin has to say when it comes to larger more elaborate enclosures vs racking systems. I remember years ago it was best to keep snakes in glass aquariums and to feed them in separate tub or aquarium. Then it switched to tubs I racking systems and it's ok to feed in their enclosure. No matter what anybody says when it comes to ball pythons I believe they are better off in tubs in racking systems. I only say this because when i made the big switch to tubs I noticed they 1. Ate more often 2. They shed better 3. Digested food better 4. Easier to maintain heat and humidity 5. Way better results with breeding 6. Over all seemed less stressed and happier. Also there is a matter of cost somebody has to pay for the cost of big fancy enclosures and expansion of facilities. You cant keep the same amount of snakes in the same space I your using larger enclosures which means you expand or keep less animals. The consumer will have to absorb all these extra cost to the point where instead of paying 30-60 for a normal ball python your paying 60-125.00 for a normal ball python. Or you don't expand and keep me animals your not gonna keep normals or pastels or any cheaper Ball python your gonna keep and breed the 500-600++++ snakes that a normal hobbyist can't afford. Same goes with the bigger snakes the retics instead of having like a tiger or golden child or whatever your gonna keep and breed the cows and moo cows the 3000-6000++ snakes and on and on no matter what the consumet pays the price.

    Snakes are so much
    Smarter than ppl give them credit for. Give them a decent amount of option and they will tell you what they want & like, to a certain point anyway. Of course we have to use our brains & knowledge of the animal to give options in rage of known needs. My boa loves low side of enclosure. Moves between ranges constantly but normally ends up hanging out on coolest point 75-80 depending on time of year. Built him a huge water bowl, thinking maybe he would like to soak but Iv never caught him actually in it. My BP’s are in racks & my BCI is in a huge 3 level China cabinet convert. Building a better rat rack system is the project we are redoing g now to make more efficient. I envy you guys that have made it your full time job, even tho I no that must be a handful. Would much rather spend my day with my animals VS running a wastewater plant 😂! Good stuff guys!

    These are probably a silly questions but.... when I put a heating pad on the bottom of a glass tank ( x large exo terra) should I put something on the inside between the glass and the substrate , aspen bedding for corn Snake. And should the hide be on top of the heating pad or next to it. I do plan on having 2 hides.. and a lamp on top with lots of branches and foliage I’m hoping it will like to climb on. I did learn and appreciate that I should put the corn snake i get in a more confined place when we get it ( i was thinking that an adult would be easier to “handle’,than a young one especially for our 9 year old grandson who lives with us. Although this is my obsession he is very excited. Sorry TMI)

      You gotta keep it humid and take it to the vet just to be safe.

    Can you make a in depth video of where to buy enclosures for adult reticulated pythons (15+foot) and a perfect cage setup for the animal please. It would be very educational for everyone I feel

    Is the bottom of the tank temp with a thermometer down there the temperature we aim for if we don't use a light. Mine will read 90-95 but the mulch temp on the surface will be 70.

    I got an exo-terra terrarium for my ball python, and it has circulation vents beneath the doors as well as the screen on top of the enclosure. should I tape over those vents to help keep the humidity in?

    • @ReptileTutorials
      @ReptileTutorials Před 5 lety

      Yes you can do that if your humidity is too low...managing it so its just right is the key.

    I knocked a heat lamp on the ground when I was a kid and it instantly melted the carpet. My mother was not amused.

    Good day sir!
    I just had my first ball python about a month ago and I'd like to know, is it really necessary to place a heating pad or heat lamp in its enclosure (considering that we have a tropical climate here in the Philippines)??
    😊

      @wormperson Před 4 lety +1

      Hello! Sorry that i answer,,
      Yes, it's very important, they need belly-heat so they can digest properly. :) If they can't, the prey will rot in their guts. But ball pythons don't need both. They're very shy snakes, so they only require heat pads!
      Hope i helped. 😉
      Have a nice day!

    So I was at a show a couple months ago and I was talking to a few breeder. Told them about my enclosures and everything. And told them I was using both a heat pad on a thermostat and a heat bulb to create ambient temperature, and it was working great honestly. But they were saying I was flat out stupid for using a heat lamp because the snake could go up by the bulb and burn itself on the mesh top of the enclosure. So I went to only using heat tape. Well now my ambient temperature is low and my snakes always feel cold. Btw it's a ball python and a dumerils boa, 2 separate enclosures. So idk what to try now, I was thinking a heat panel for the top but the cages are pretty small
