Whats the point of having a snake as a pet if you cant give it the best enclosure you can? By that I mean naturalistic. If you buy used or build yourself you can do it for less than 200 usd

Even if it’s not a permanent situation, a sterilite with a locking lid is the perfect place for a new snake owner. Easy to store and clean. You can literally put it in a shower and use dawn soap.

I need the Hognose bin size but couldn't find it but in my research I came across the options for the largest bin and figured I'd share. It's my best guess anyway.
Sterilite 37 quart clear plastic bin with gasket and 6 latches in blue. Outside measurements are 24" x 18" x 7" according to Amazon.
Iris USA has a 41.2 quart Weatherpro clear plastic bin with 6 latches and gasket in black. Outside measurements are 23.6" x 17.75" x 7.88" according to Amazon.

As you explained a setup for a python... it suddenly dawned on me why many houses here in tropical Aus have at least one [python] living in the ceiling... it is warm, dark, a little moist and there could even be food [mice, rats, possums etc]. Never really thought about it before, just accepted it as "normal".

I use the 37 quart stairilite enclosure for corn snakes, but only for the first 8 months to a year depending on how fast they are growing. I know that is about as much space they get in breeder racks, but for adult snakes I think they would be alot better in about double that space.

I'd say it more than "might be" worth the little bit of extra money to buy a thermostat. It's absolutely necessary. Those heat mats get well over 100°F without a thermostat. You *will* cook your snake to death without one.

It’s an older video, but it’s so good and refreshing to see. A lot of people will shame and rip apart people who can’t provide royal standards of treatment for their pet. Attitudes like that aren’t going to stop people from keeping pets on a budget, but it IS going to stop them from asking for help and advice. That kind of gatekeeping is such a disservice to the community and really should be called out when it’s seen to stop the bullies and provide support to people struggling, which in turn provides much needed support to the animals. Great video to revisit! As usual, perfectly explained by Kevin 🩶

By ball is set up in the tub shown and is set up with pretty much everything shown. I used forest floor and a small amount of eco earth. It is an awesome tub and a great size for my 2 month old and he will be able to grow nicely. I was having trouble with too high humity with only one row of holes around the base so I added an H pattern in the lid and that worked wonders. The tub also has an indentation on the bottom that works well with the heater and cord. I also elevated mine so there is air moving around. T rex makes a great duck tape that is waterproof and has a temperature rating that helps hold the pad if it loosens. This is a great set up and a great video.

I got my first snake, a ball python, in March. (thanks to Brian B. and a few other snake enthusiasts who make videos)i plan to build them (lol got a sand boa in April) nice bioactive enclosures but i have started them all in homemade bins like you are showing. I thought it would be best to start them in nice big bins with hides and enrichment since they had been living in rack systems. They both eat well, are healthy, and don't seem to mind coming out to explore' :)

Tbh this isn't the best way to keep snakes but it will work. These types of tubs are perfect for Ball Pythons. I have four of different sizes in tubs like these. Their sheds are perfect, they're tame and they eat like beasts every week. I have no need to put them in another kind of enclosure any time soon. They're quite happy and I'm definitely not going to screw that up by putting them in something "pretty" that doesn't suit their needs as well.

And should the hide be on top of the heating pad or next to it. I do plan on having 2 hides.. and a lamp on top with lots of branches and foliage I’m hoping it will like to climb on. I did learn and appreciate that I should put the corn snake in a more confined place when we get it ( i was thinking that an adult would be easier to handle than a young one)

Thank you for another awesome video guys im soo glad your taking the time to put the correct husbandry information out there its a big help!!! I would love to see a video about the proper husbandry/ care for boa constrictors as there is information out there but i find alot of the info conflicts with each other plus i trust you guys and Kevins extensive knowledge especially as he clearly is making these videos as he genuinelycares for all animals welfare.

I'm a hopeful future hobby breeder of garters, I have a decent start of a collection (2 albino, 1 albino granite, and 2 wild type all of them checkered) and I hope to add some California reds this year. Any suggestions or tips for a beginner?

How many quarts is that bigger tub? Sorry this is an old video and you probably won’t see my comment but trying to plan a nice little diy rack build. I have 6 40 gallon tanks and they are starting to take up too much room. Need a cleaner look!

So for fire safety with a plastic bin I just need to drill more holes? And get a thermostat. Does it need to sit on anything special because I just had it sitting on the floor. I went to a snake shop and spent $500 kind of sad that they didn’t send me home with a thermometer because they knew I was a new sneak owner

Loving these videos, very informative. My wife and I just switched from a tank to tubs (we had an as of yet unrecovered escape) and it seems to retain too much humidity. Daily I've been checking the humidity and drilling a few more holes in the lid. It's been dropping closer to where I need it. Is it safe to manage humidity this way? The snake should be ok at the wrong humidity for a few days until I have it all sorted, right?

Kevin, can you point me to a video you’ve done or explain why I would need an ambient temperature of 80 for a ball python when they have a heat pad available? I haven’t seen anyone speak to this point directly, when surely overnight lows in their natural environment dip down into the 50’s.
