  • The start of February is here. I've been continuing my daily walks outdoors, getting as much nature and sunlight as I can and I've been taking the time to catch up with friends. My week began in Castleton having tea and a wander with Jessica - I'll link to her account below as she creates wonderful videos on here and I'm sure you'd love them. The day after I managed to get out to finish off my walk through Dovedale which I was hoping to do the other week when I visited Ilam but got hit by the rain. Then later in the week I headed to Rutland, the smallest county in England, to visit my dear friend Kyle for tea in the market town of Oakham.

Such a beautiful , relaxing video, taking us through the gorgeous Derbyshire countryside which has so much to offer at any time of the year. I am glad to hear someone else who also prefers cooler weather for walking. I always feel that wrapping up in warm clothes feels like a comforting protective embrace , which is such a lovely contrast with the crisp cold sir. Summer walks can be so uncomfortable, with the sun beating down on you and having to see the world through dark glasses and having to smear your face with horrid protective creams.

You’re most welcome! đŸ„° I adore Castleton, I try and get there as often as I can. Winnats Pass is such a spectacular sight! I need to go do the whole circular walk through Cave Dale, perhaps come spring â˜ș

I am from the beautiful north west in America, we have beautiful state parks and my husband and I have hiked all through the mountains and beaches and lakes. For the past sixty years we have traveled the paths and we have always been very safe. We don’t have the old villages that you have but the woods are our haven.

Ok, now I'm in love with the Peak District 😆 That walk seems absolutely magical is now a must on my bucket list. I love the way the cliffs rise so high and you can walk right against the base of them, something about that makes me feel very sheltered and cozy.

As a southerner who moved up to Cheshire, I’m fascinated by the look of those drystone walls blanketed with swathes of green moss. At this time of year, I take far too many photos of mossy walls, and would love to be able to paint them.
Thank you for this lovely video which is beautifully filmed and edited. đŸ€©

I love the mossy stone walls too :) Goodness..I wish I could paint as well. My skills aren't great but that's something I want to try and do this year, improve my art skills - fingers crossed! Until then, I'll have to continue to capture places through my lens. Hope you had a wonderful weekend ❀

Thanks for another lovely video Stacy, you were lucky with the sunshine. I remember going on a coach trip to Tissington a few years ago on a very cold day and Sir Richard came out to tell us there was a power cut at the Hall, so no hot drink for us so he had arranged for us to have hot drinks from the local pub and he paid for them. Nice man, the well dressing is nice to see too. Stay safe x

As an American in general we can roam and walk around. Not on private property and usually there is a sign or fencing, but we can walk from place to place if you want. In the city it depends on the infrastructure, and crime rates, in small towns you can but even there the infrastructure is not created for walking like in the UK it was created for cars so that’s the hardest part. So people sometimes walk next to the streets. The US is huge to begin with and the land can be super wild too. In general we can walk especially in idyllic and tourist towns. On top of that we have huge and lots of national parks. Most of my state is basically national parks. But it’s also super wild and hot. And for example Alaska is freezing and wild. There is a safety issue of other dangerous people but if you’re in a park almost no one worries like you showed the map before your walk that here is considered a protected park and most people would walk that here safely. I don’t know what other Americans were saying or if they live in dangerous cities which of course we have more since were much bigger than the UK by a lot. In my city you can basically walk anywhere and in the large metropolitan area we’re connected there are areas where I wouldn’t walk. I guess what I’m saying is the US is not that dangerous simply because it’s huge but it also depend on the location of the US and how close you are to cities. Usually the sweet spot is small tourist towns and the surrounding parks not super empty or super busy. Also lots of people’s opinion is based on the cities they live and in general most Americans like in the super mega populated cities like LA, Houston, New York, Atlanta , Phoenix, Chicago, and Miami and others and those are dangerous of course. It’s like having 20 London’s. Anyways I also wanted to mention lots of Americans live in small bubbles, mentally and physically, and don’t go out and explore the nature and land we have.

We don’t have the right to roam freely here in rural areas or national parks and other such places because we’re a violent nation filled with guns and psychos & serial killers yet to be discovered, tons of drugs & people addicted to meth, crack & other such chemicals...if I were doing what you’re doing here it wouldn’t be without a weapon on me & that’s just the way we are & mostly women & children are the target group who ends up in a bad way...so yeah, watching this video is totally relaxing because I can get away for a while without fear of being attacked....sad but true.
