  • I don't know if I've invented this bind-off or just "unvented" it. Regardless, it creates a simple edge for a shawl. The bind-off does tend to frill and flare a little due to the tripling of stitches along the edge, so it isn't suitable for all projects. It also uses quite a bit more yarn than a traditional bind-off, again, because of the increase in stitches. As you approach the end of your ball of yarn, weigh your yarn (in grams) before and after knitting one row. Reserve about 5 times that amount for the bind-off.
Binding off the first stitch: 0:45
Binding off the second stitch and all other stitches to the end: 1:24
    Kfb Variation: 2:14

Thank you! Saw this described in a pattern but couldn’t find it anywhere but here. It’s written as kfb&f. Weird,, right? Thanks again!

On a few occasions, I have seen kf&b rather than kfb, so kfb&f would make sense. Maybe they're trying to draw attention to the fact that it's more than just a kfb. I feel like the ampersand visually clutters the instructions, so I prefer kfb and kfbf. Whatever that designer's rationale, I'm glad I could help you out!
