Awesome video, I appreciate the quality and being able to observe a professional diver.
Thanks for such a useful video. Me, personally, ended up using OMS slipstream, after trying Mares Excel+, Subgear Rake and Tusa Solla. They are not as heavy as Scubapro Jetfins but with all the benefits you get from an actual jetfin. The polymer they are manufactured from has proven to be very longlasting, as well as the springstraps.
Amazing video. Keep on doing this kind of reviews. Very helpful and very clear
Thank you. It is really helpful to go into detail the pro and con of different fin. 👍😊
I love your videos man specially as a intro level cave diver. I would like to see more videos of students doing their cave training similar to the video with Andrea’s and the other guy
great comparison video, very helpful
Great review
I use the RK3 with wet suit and the RK3 HD with dry suit. The HDs are slightly stiffer and my size mediums are 1/2 kg less buoyant per fin. By coincidence I also have the Quattros; I like them with a frog kick but find them a bit long for shuffling about on a rib or manoeuvring in a wreck.
OMS Slipstream for Drysuit works quite good for me
Hi Steve,
Great video and review as always. A few years back, I switched to the Xdeep ones, starting with the medium and simply great in wetsuit, perhaps too stiff for some but quite easy and flexible for those who dive a lot, also slightly negative.
They also have the soft model, similar to the RK3 and the hard ones, which I use with the drysuit (although the medium would work and calm waters).
Check them out, you'll be impressed I think.
Cheers
my my my I miss the good ole days 47 years ago when you had to pick between Voit - US Diver Rockets or Scuba Pro's Jet fins ! I laugh when I hear some mention "travel Fins" it seems foolish to waste $$$ to buy a light weight pair of fins to travel with , in hopes to save a few dollars on baggage fees . And now you will need to get use to using a different set of fins that don't move like your favorite pair of fins . I still LOVE my US Diver ROCKETS and I put a lot of miles on them every year Scuba diving and snorkeling . Keep in mind - my local dive store won't allow you to test drive the fins ... you need to buy them and they don't take returns unless the are defective !
Hi there. Very good review. I was wondering during if you would focus your review on technical dive fins area only. Meaning comparing, apks, scubapros, dive rite, aqualungs, oms and ist fins.. I think it would be very helpful for the new tec dive community.. Thank you in advance.
By the way, awesome buoyancy!!
Try the RK3 HD version. They feel just like my old US Divers Rocket Fins. They are very stiff and slightly negative.
Hi Steve, nice review. Thanks for that. Just wondering if you have any experience with the Deep 6 Eddy fin?
I like your videos , it would be nice to see fin tests for the tusa hyflex switch and the seawing nova ( not the gorilla). It would be nice to see these fins that are popular to recreational divers :)
Hi, have you tested the RK3 HD? They are suppose to be a bit heavier than the RK3
RK3 are actually a very good fins for drysuit. I use them and I know many diver that do here in Switzerland and all very happy about them.
I’m about to start U.K. dry suit diving and am considering RK3s . Thanks for this comment as the video put me off
@@Litehamer You'd be best with the RK3 HD version for drysuit diving. They are a bit heavier stiffer and negatively buoyant so stop floaty feet. I have them and they are great in the lakes. The shorter fins are tougher on your legs if you are diving in currents though. I have longer fins for sea dives. Hope this helps
Great video! May I know your review of Aqualung Storm fins?
Would love to see the new s tek fins from subapro and more dry suit friendly fins!
Have you tested the sea wing nova & gorilla fins by scuba pro..
I use the gorillas as there more stiff (I’m in drysuit & twins) I’m really impressed with these fins
I missed the Mares power plana in the performance test. Anyway, very interesting comparison. Thanks for your content!
Hi Juan, the Mares power plana I found to be a fairly heavy fin, it is somewhere between the Quattro and a pair of jet fins in terms of its performance. I think they now make different stiffness levels of that fin, the one I tried a few years back was quite stiff, so not ideal for me. I preferred the Quattro or RK3 instead. But definitely worth a try if you can get your hands on a pair to test. Cheers, Steve
@@sidemountscubadiving Thanks for your comments Steve.
I read somewhere that the power plana have a slightly better performance against currents than others and that's important where I dive (in Tarifa), so definitively, I will check it myself.
Bests, Juan.
Have you had any experience using dive rite xt and how they compare to the avanti Quattro?
Could you review Deep6 Eddy Fins and Force Fins please 🙏🏻
If I’m foot heavy and with poorly flexible ankles; which fins do you recommend me?
Can you make review for:
- Xdeep EX1
- Tecline Power-Jet
- Cressi Frog
- Scubapro Seawing Nova Gorilla
- Gull GT
- Gull Barracuda fins
- Dive Rite XT?
Add the Oceanic Accel fins to this list
and the zeagle recon
Test the DiveRite XT
can you also test Eddy fin?
Hi Steve, I am enjoying your videos. I am currently using Mares Avanti Quattro fins. I am wondering if you have tried the Gull super mewXX or Gull GT fins? The manufacturers claims that it combines the power of a jet style fin while combining the flexibility of the rubber material used.
I have not tried those fins, but on looking at them I would go for the Gull GT fins as the others I doubt will perform that well. The GT model does look good but I bet they are quite a heavy fin in the water so probably only okay for some drysuit divers using thick exposure suits and want the extra weight at the foot. Maybe someone else reading this will have some more information for you. Regards, Steve
@@sidemountscubadivingTks Steve for taking the trouble to reply. I hope to try them on and share my experience. hope you could do the same. cheers
do the tecline power jet
Hi Steve, nice review of RK3. I love them for the fun dives in wet suits and for travelling. For home dives in cold lakes and dives with more than two tanks I prefer the good old Scubapro Jetfins.
The RK3 HDs are slight negative and are also pretty good. I have a pair of each.
@@Jamescraigjohnson Got the HD as well... Pretty happy with them too!
@@Miquelamen Have you used HDs with wetsuit?
can you review the deep6 Eddy's, xdeep EX1, and Scubapro jet fins?
I will try to get my hands on some of those fins and plan to do another video for sure
I've heard that apeks makes a HD (high density) negative pair of the rk3
Hi Lee, yes the Apeks HD version. I am actually using everyday at the moment, see them in this photo album. They are slightly negative (not heavy) and nice to use in a drysuit, out of the all the recent fins I have used these are probably the easiest fin for anyone to use to help master all the advanced finning techniques. The normal non HD version, just called the RK3 I prefer to use when I dive in wetsuit that or the Mares Quattro. Cheers, Steve
Hi Steve. I see that you love the avanti 4 but for me, with those fins my foot drop down and I don’t know why. Can you recommend me another fins? Thanks for your time
Hi Christian, try the Apeks RK3 it is lighter and probably one of the best fins for a lot of divers. Do not get the RK3 HD they are negative, so if you need a lighter fin then the RK3, it is also shorter than the quattro too. Regards, Steve
But Steve I’m confused because a friend of mine have the RK3(not HD) and they are negarive. There are RK3 negative model and another positive model? Thanks so much for your advice
I bought rk3 but they are too light for me I back to my jetfins
Are RK3 better than scubapro supernova in warm water and 3mm wetsuit ? thanks
For me yes, I think the RK3 style of fin makes it easy for most people to kick with compared to the supernova. Regards, Steve
thanks a lot for this valuable advice.. appreciate it @@sidemountscubadiving
I use 3mm wetsuit with 5mm boots.. do I need to get the HD version to overcome the boots buoyancy ? what do you think ?
Want to buy some RK3 HD fins? Defo gonna be heavy enough for your thin legs, I way prefer lighter fins all day
Scubapro? Is not good?
ScubaPro Jet fin is good but they are very heavy, even when using a drysuit. For me it would have to be in very cold water and thick exposure protection and even then I find they are heavy to be honest, the drysuit divers that don't probably have a lot of air in the lower leg / foot.
jet fins sucks...
