We are definitely the only band in the Philippines playing the grateful dead live in our shows lol
That’s awesome! You guys have any videos up?
@@TobyDavvy not yet we played gig tonight but there's curfew lockdown here your vids really help local kids get into jamming n learning about the dead here thanks they dig your channel
Spread that shit!
I would love to come hear a show..... Pinoy bands ROCK!
Good stuff. I’d love a lesson on the lead guitar in this classic.
Am i tripping or is the lyric "that being the point just about half way"
Yes it is, even look on a map and santa fe is about half way from sth Colorado to West Texas
Yeah, "met me and the ponies" is a pretty hilarious misheard lyric!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this!!! Thank you Davvy!
Please show chords dude
Happy i found your channel! Consider doing a lesson on the jerry leads on I know you rider or st stephen . Cheers
This is beautiful, brother bear. Keep up the holy worship
Thanks for the kind words, brother!
Beautiful guitar, and very well played!
Keep it up brother, love the channel
Well, we love YOU!
Dude, I'm so sorry it took me so long to subscribe. Your videos are epic.
Thanks for elevating my campfire song-level expertise to a slightly higher plane. It would be nice to have a simple lead or 2 per song in your lesson (with tab, perhaps) to show off.
Hey, thanks for joining the Play Dead fam! And I’ve recently started putting lead examples toward the end of videos. No tabs yet, but soon perhaps. Although, I am a huge supporter of improv. Hey never plan a solo. But maybe I could give a few “Jerry style” tips.
Brilliant man...great presentation! I was looking for help on the solo though??
Grateful for your videos. May I ask a super nooby question? :/ When you say it's G, to EM, I noticed your starting all the way towards like the 5th fret and doing some sorta barre chord?
When I read G I EM - x3 , I think G chord, into em major chord. But clearly I am wrong. How should I read/approach that? Thanks for helping dead music
I enjoyed the lesson thanks.
Hey, man! Thanks for watching!
I'm just throwing this out there but I like Bobby's cowboy songs.
First time watching one of your videos and I feel like I want to be your friend, thanks for the lesson! Maybe ill meet ya out texas way someday.
We are the Olive Garden. When you’re here, you’re family. And there’s breadsticks.
@@TobyDavvy It's appreciated, keep doing your thing!
Nice work Davvy! How do I send you videos exactly? You're editing is good too man!
Talking to the void! I can relate.
Okay I’ll sub brother you are cool
Hey Davie love what your doing. Where can I find your course? Need to promote it on each one of these .
You can order the course by sending me $130 to my Venmo (@davvyplaydead) or PayPal (tobyanddavvy@gmail.com) along with your email and I’ll send the course right over to you.
Great voice
I need to work on that C shaped G....and sliding it! There is a G triad on the top strings right there, but it's pretty chimey(high pitch). I grab the E shaped G at fret 3 and slide that up for now. Also, I think this is the song I am going to work on singing with. I haven't ever considered singing until recently. It seems like I should now...my playing is pretty decent, I want to tell stories while I play. Thanks Davvy! Always entertaining....
What are the frets for the chords .?
Bro I love and appreciate these lessons so much. I consider myself an intermediate guitar player, know all my cowboy chords, quite a few barre chords, and some scales. My one small suggestion is maybe explain some of the chord shapes you are using cause some of them are new to me, lol. I'm totally hooked though, learned four songs yesterday.
Learn caged and they will make sense
it's ok to just use the shapes you know instead of the fancier ones....
It’s a D chord on the the seventh fret it’s a G
Haha love you Davvy you're fucking hilarious and you make learning these songs so fun 🤣 😂
Toby, This is a crackup to listen to this channel. But, more importantly, what a great instructor you are. You have a great ability to get right to the heart of the song.
If you are counting votes. add one for...Uncle John's Band. Thank you for being you!
I really appreciate the kind words and Uncle John has been added to the list. Btw The name is Davvy. Toby is the other guy.
Davvy. how rude of me. Won't make that mistake again!
Don’t sweat it, brother! That stuff happens.
what's good with dat lead doe?
I want to name a strain after you! Bo you like sativas or indicas more? Your getting the Bobby Shorts too!
I love me an indica, bro bro
@@TobyDavvy I’m working with some crosses with Mac 1 right now. Maybe I throw some Ghani on it and see what it do......
What did it do? Was the DavyTobyDobey good?
I think this channel and your vibe is brilliant!
Fuck the haters, this shit is so RAD!
I’m still trying to figure out that last chord. The weird diminished sounding one.
It’s a kind of open A minor chord. Ring finger on 7th fret of D string and pointer finger on 5th fret of G string, let all the other strings ring open.
@@TobyDavvy Thank you! I think I’d call that an A minor add 2. Or maybe A minor 9? Either way, it’s a great chord!
recently performed this at local open mic with the intro that it's the perfect cowboy song as it's got horses whiskey poker gold guns death & betrayal and after a guy says wait it doesn't have hookers so i added a new verse.....new verse 3:
'walked up to the cathouse picked me a tart .. hug up my pistols she did her part .. as soon as my head cleared and i could think .. went back to that barroom for another drink .. and it was then that our good time began to sink .. ' now the saga is complete ...
What “G” is that ????
I’m pretty sure he says” that being the point, just about halfway”
Look it up!
Sante Fe is actually just about halfway between West Colorado and South Texas. I googled me and my uncle lyrics. I was correct. Sorry Toby you can’t always be right. Why don’t you look it up?
Who met me and the pony ? No disrespect,I love your videos, it took me quite some time to figure out that lyric. So according to your lyric there is actually a third unidentified person who met him and his uncle and “me” had a pony. Are you smoking that dirt weed? You need some hybrid.
Not looking to be right. I know I’m wrong a lot of the time. But this lesson is years old now, you are not the first person to come at me with this. So, here are the lyrics taken straight from the front page of google, “Me and my uncle went ridin' down
To South Colorado, West Texas bound
We stopped over in Santa Fe
That day on the pony, just about halfway
And you know it was the hottest part of the day”
So, I wasn’t 100% correct, which, ya know, I don’t care. But there is absolutely a version with mention of ponies.
And, my name is Davvy. Toby is the other guy.
Ok wait not that it bothers me or anything like that but I’m just genuinely confused about where the gay cowboy stuff comes from. If anyone can explain I’d really appreciate it. Also just found your channel and I’m really diggin it
2:14 - 2:33
tHAnkS dAd
*cough* Gay cowboy lead pls
Davvy...the lyric is not "me and the ponies just about half way" ....Listen to it again and also what makes sense. The lyric is "We stopped over... in Santa Fe...that being the point...just about half wayyyyyy" Your Welcome!! Santa Fe being half way between South CO and West Texas.
You’re like the 100th person to comment this. Google the lyrics. It’s actually “that day on the ponies”
@@TobyDavvy google is wrong
The first response on google is by the spirit music group and they did get it wrong with pony. The original john Phillips version is " that being the point"
This song was played live by the Dead more than any other through their entire history.
🏳️🌈🤷🏻🏳️🌈
what the hell you talkin about" ponies "
??
Look it up
talking to the ether, alone, is a gay cowboy song itself
Love the video, but what makes this a gay cowboy song?
Bro, if you have to ask....
@@TobyDavvy If I have to ask then what?! Please enlighten me. Is it that he takes off his shirt, so we assume he's robbing gay cowboys?...or are there things going way over my head.
Yeah I don't get that either. The unmentioned "legend" about how it was written in a blackout is much more interesting than the homophobia, IMHO.
The only thing gay about this song is the hot pants Bob Weir wears while singing it.
Ik im a little late commenting on this vid lol but what about the song makes it a gay cowboy song isn’t it just about a dude and his uncle😭
69. Noice.
Noice
Keep your day job lesson
“Curious” what IS IT about this jam that merits it to be a butt fuckin buddies beat? LMAO🤣
That's some world class virtue signaling at the top. OK guitar player, but a hero for sure!
it'll sound better using a B7...... somewhat less gay....
You can use whatever chord you want bro, but we support gay cowboys here, so idk what you mean by “less gay”...Bobby is a gay icon.
@@TobyDavvy and that is based on...??
For real? Must I point you to the pink Madonna shirt and very short short jean shorts?
@@TobyDavvy when asked about girls backstage mickey said they just usually collected bobby's runoff....
I’m not saying Bobby is gay, I’m saying he’s a gay icon.
What makes this a gay country song
It’s not a gay country song. It’s a gay cowboy song. Very very different. One is a celebration of gay cowboy culture, the other is any Garth Brooks song.
@@TobyDavvy now I’m really really confused
Dude get to the point !! Weak weak blah blah blah for 3:00
You totally have the ability to scrub through the video. Don’t be a dick.
Fucket Man
Blah Blah Blah. Get to the point man. Oh and a great story song it is! Nothing gay about it thou boo
The best Country Song ever written.
