    This mundane critique left me with little knowledge past what I could see with my own eyes. Yes the Rebel is smaller fitted, yes the V Star is more cushioned, and of course the Heist is uncomfortable. The review I just watched is "stunningly limited."

    I had the V Star 250 back in the late '80s. when it was known as the Yamaha Route 66. Between that and the Rebel 250, the Star is much nicer. Plus, it's got the traditional long-stroke V-twin engine, which lends it a degree of cruiser authenticity that you simply don't get from the Honda.

      ***** Really? "reliability issues"? Is that what you call it? They're absolute junk bikes, all of them. Sure, they look good but who wants to sit in their garage and stare at a bike with missing parts you cannot replace? Google "Cleveland, nothing but problems: Customer critique of warranty..." etc. Dude made 50 miles before he started pushing. Got threatened with a lawsuit for criticizing the quality publicly.

    • @47485ksc
      @47485ksc Před 9 lety +4

      ***** Oh, none taken. I was agreeing with you but presenting "reliability issues" in a more pro-active (read: "aggressive") manner. I'm about so sick of these Chinese shitpiles, bile backs up in my throat and I just wanna PUKE! (there. I feel better) I will agree these Cleveland (China) bikes look absolutely "TITS" (an old biker adage) but so do those Chinese Honda-clone industrial engines such as the GX160 or any GX-series Honda-clone engine. What Honda does is sells China all the molds and tooling for the GX-series after the tooling and molds are past specifications and tolerances. "Worn out; shot" in other words. I just wrapped up a 41 year career as a small engine mechanic and had to turn away a lot of customers over the recent years who bought (usually from Harbor Freight) skid-mounted (portable) generators. They'd get like 2 hours out of one and in my shop they'd come. Usually loss of electrical power output. I tried "exciting" a few to no avail. ("exciting" is like a "jump start" of the generators output, pretty simple but to lengthy to explain here) Although I was a power generator operator/mechanic in the United States Army (52B20) I refused to work on anything Chinese because of lack of parts access. That included scooters, dirt bikes, mini-crotch rockets, anything. There are zillions of little Dinks running around China building all this crap (usually by child slave labor) and exporting it to the US only because people here see something pretty and the price is right, not realizing "you get what you pay for". Buy a used, low mileage Honda Rebel from some Dyke who only rode it to the lesbian bar on Friday nights. You all will thank me later.

  • @spitfeueranna
    @spitfeueranna Před 9 lety +15

    Honda Rebel. Why? 1. So many of them have been built for so long parts are cheap and will be available forever. 2. Engine and carb is bulletproof. 3. With some cutting off of a superfluous piece that bumps in the way, you can take the entire top end out of the bike (cylinderhead) without removing entire bloody engine from bike. For ebay $100 cylinder kit, you can replace your piston, rings, cylinder. Like getting a whole new engine. 4. Easy to handle and a joy to ride, if you are short person under 6ft tall. 5. 60mpg. 6. Cranks up every time, and if ever not (like a dead battery), you can push start it.

      *An Anna* I do believe you could add a number 7 to that list. It being, that as the style hasn't changed over many years, you could almost guarantee a healthy resale value for those earlier model Honda Rebels, providing they were looked after well and appeared in as new condition. About the only addition I think Honda could do to improve it, would be to install a matching tachometer...

    I love The Heist!! When you look at the Heist, It looks as if its already Customized from the Factory or It looks like Someone customized the bike thereselves! I like how it looks minimal, Like you have The frame with a seat, two wheels and a Engine, You dont see a bunch of wires or a bulky AirBox, Side Panels so you cant see through the bike! It just looks Simple without all that stuff and ofcourse lite weight. Im thinking about buying one and getting it custom painted, blacken out all the, get the same size wheels but in all black, And I think that would really set this bike off.. . Actually I think this Bike would be Awsome for anybody to build what they want with it.

    This is exactly what I hate about most of the bike reviews I ever see. In very broad strokes, there is almost never any instrumented testing, no quantitative analysis of build, ride quality or performance, and the opinions are slipshod AT BEST, teetering toward fanboyism. These folks do not show that they really know their way around a bike. The lady is excused because she was a newbie.
    How about a show with an ex-/current bike racer (somebody with actual talent), a fat guy that is a decent rider and a skinny hooligan (political correctness be damned!)? Do some real testing, talk about actual motorcycling and go on a trip or something? Talk to the manufacturers about why they do things the way they do (i.e. try to be relevant to the industry).
    Look, any moron can get on a bike and vomit words. Talking about what-is-what in relevant terms with decent cinematography and verifiable data is something else entirely.

    I love my Yamaha virago 250 (older version of the vstar 250). It has a v-twin engine so you can't go wrong with that! :) but the thing I hate about it is that you can't put much for saddlebags on it since the turn signals are farther back. I had to cut a hole so they would fit the turn signals. The seat isn't very comfortable and feels like I'm sitting on the frame.

      The Virago (1996) was my pick too. I think your missing the entire point about the "starter bike". They aren't meant to have saddlebags, They are not a bike your taking on a 500 mile trip. They are built to take around town/city and around the backroads where the speed limit is lower than the interstate and you can cruise at 55-60 mph to get use to riding.

Bike could not look cooler if you tried except new paint. Which will be a marbleized black/silver with candy blue... head light is a 46 Chevy, and a 1933 ford rear tail light. Straight piped and all my buddies are drooling... lookes totally bad ass and fun... maybe an engine swap down the road to an xs650. I have a Rebel --- have had it about 3 years.
    I like it, except that the transmission is unacceptably squirrelly. It is hard to get into neutral and in connection with the struggle getting it into neutral, it sometimes pops into gear when it should not. It is amazing to me that Honda has not fixed this problem in the 31 year production run of this model.
    I would like to try a V-Star. Anyone looking to get a rebel, I suggest you try a V-Star too before making a decision.

    Well you did it right out of the box. All the bikes I owned in the 70's were less than 450cc. Where did you get this "reentry" term? I wish Honda still made 350 and 400cc bikes. They got better gas milage, easer to control, go off-road on trails, and cost less than the bikes available. Just because the patents have run out of the design and now China is able to make 100cc to less than 300cc bikes still do not put them in your "reentry" classification.

    Should be fine. If looking in the used market look at a Honda Nighthawk. It is a standard bike (not a cruiser) and therefore you will be sitting more upright and it will acommodate larger people easier. Since you also have dirt bike exposure consider a dual sport TW200 or the 250. Don't worry about getting a 250 size bike - you can trade up to any other size when you are ready!

    No, there was no brand loyalty, if you watch the beginning again there is a few comments about it, they were only testing "Cruiser" Style motorcycles for this one, The TU250 is a standard/naked bike with vintage european styling and the GW250 is a newer fairing styled Naked. It's not that they were excluding, they just wanted to test bikes similar to the old harleys that a "re-entering" rider would appreciate.

    Those comments are mostly industry marketing. They don't want you to buy a $4000 ($1600-2200 used) bike and be satisfied. They want you to buy this, then a year later buy a $10,000 bike =$14,000 in revenue. The talking heads are pitchmen for the mfgs. They're just doing their job.
    The Rebel is best all around for the shorter rider if they take it easy in the corners (pegs are low). The Nighthawk 250 is nearly the same mechanics (wish it had a front disk) but a taller posture. Both will drive you on country roads and in town well, literally forever. Too light and shakey for 70mph or to battle repeated truck wash. You want to ride for short touring fun on scenic roads, these the first two bikes or the Suzuki 250 cruiser are fine. The Heist is a China variant and a bit rough around the edges with 1930s tech.

    3. Much more freedom for customization (can use Honda Rebel chocks to achive bobber style look)
    4. Can modify sprockets to 17/38 and you can commute 65-75 mph on the highway easy in mid-rev range where it has most torque.
    5. Dirty cheap parts and user-friendly maintenance.
    6. Over 28 years of proven quality.
    I had Honda Shadow 600 and I sold it 3 years ago.Later on I bought myself Virago XV 250 and I love it !
    Has everything I need, accelerates well, light as bicycle, and fuel consumption is 94 miles per gallon.

      "Not gonna include that Heist piece of shit Chinese bike as serious brand" Really? Why are you being so harsh on such an inexpensive motorcycle? Yes it's made in China, but the company who's sells them here get the profits. So who cares?

    • @Marko-od7eb
      @Marko-od7eb Před 8 lety +3

      Who cares ? Hmmmm buyers mabye ? Anyone who values their own money and quality ?
      By the way.....the bike is ridiculously expensive having in mind that it is Chinese.
      Don't you agree that it would be fair for a company to tell it's buyers that bike is in fact Chinese instead to lie everyone that it is American , just like they lie on teir web site that they are "numerous record holders" ?
      I actually Googled to find those self-proclaimed "numerous records" and found out they hold NONE.

    The new CBR250s are very light and have a skinny design. It only uses 1-cyliner. My friend who recently bought a ninja250 chose it over the Honda because he said the cbr felt and sounded like a scooter...Depends on what type of style you like, sports bike or more relaxed and laid back like the rebel.

  • @JCole78

    Originally was going to buy CCW's The Heist I love the bobber styling. I had a 81 Honda cb650c that crapped out on me, and I wanted a new bike. The problem I had with getting 250cc was my size and weight, I am 5'10" and 200lbs. So I started looking at getting something bigger i mean my 650 had a hard enough time with my size. I eventually was able to get a 2006 Sportster 1200c for about 1000 more than the heist. In the end I got a bike with a bigger v twin for a little more money.

    The one thought I had though was that if I got the heist I was actual going to put a rebel motor on it. All it would take is a little bit of welding knowledge. The rebel motor is a better motor but the heist is a better looking bike.

    Id get a heist because its not a bike you are going to keep for years. ride it a season and move up. Look cool in the meanwhile. The Rebel HAS been around for decases. It came out in the early to mid 80's. My bud bought one for his wife and I even considered it but bought a used Honda CM450 instead. It just goes to show you how many different factors influence peoples purchases.

    @stephaniebraun2910 Před 2 lety

    I Absolutely LOVE all 3 bikes but The Rebel is my favorite because it's so versital and almost indesctructbale, you can also pull the riders pad off and you have a bobber look, Also lets be honest The Heist, although a GREAT Bike, isn't a Beginner/Reentry bike, It's a commuter bike and a putting around the city and having fun, noone with any sense would buy a hard tail as a beginner bike, even a day 1 rider knows that. The V-Star is a Great bike also but for shorter riders they can be challenging. All 3 have great things about them but I'll take a Rebel over the VStar or Heist. They are very good bikes and like was mentioned by the narrator, they have been around forever with not many changes which mean if you drop it and dent the tank you can get another very easily.

      I felt the exact same way until I had an opportunity to ride one with a few upgrades(high quality seat w/air bag connections)
      A Mikuni carb upgrade.
      So, I took it for a spin 6-7 mile run. It was awesome what can I say??
      I was in shock at how much power that little motor put out. Normally a 1200 would be my choice but like I said, I was shocked. With upgrades the bike was 3245.67 taxes and all!! Some of the bike is made in China and the fit and finish/ electrical etc... are completed in the USA. The company is owned by a couple of Young guys from the US.
      Before you poo poo the Heist, take one for a ride.
      I would personally like the bike a whole lot more if they could find a decent V-twin instead of the Honda clone 250 they are using. It’s a very high quality clone and the same engine was used in actual Honda’s.
      For the money it’s a good little bike to bomb around on. 👍🏻

      I doubt that the Cleveland guys wanted to spend the extra millions of dollars to get their bikes certified for CA emissions standards. BTW, that Heist would not be street legal in PA with no front fender and the short rear fender. I see bikes running around like that every day but they will not legally pass PA safety inspection that way. Don't know about other states?
