How to cure an ear infection using knot theory

Knot theory is a branch mathematics that studies the patterns of behaviour of three-dimensional "knots" - that could mean knots of string, knots of wire, or, as in this case, knots of DNA.
Why study knots of DNA? Well, how about because DNA in your body getting knotted up could kill you. Or perhaps: suppose there's something in your body that we want to kill, like a bacteria!
