    Summary
Tamarindo is my happy place. If I had to give one reason, it is the community. Such a great mix of nationalities, ages and backgrounds.
In researching this with my friends, one word kept appearing. MAGICAL. Everyone is loving life in this beautiful Costa Rican beach town
    1. GreatBeaches
In a country full of beautiful beaches, it is hard to pin down the absolute best. But Tamarindo offers uncrowded white sand beaches, shade and swimmable ocean. Everyone has a favorite area of beach
    2. Community
Everyone is in Tamarindo because they love it. Look around at sunset, everyone has a smile on their faces. Weather you want to do bingo on a Tuesday night, poker night or party til sunrise, you have options. The community is open and friendly, keen to welcome new ‘locals’
    3. Nightlife
Tamarindo is well known for its nightlife. It is not a place for cocktail parties and anything remotely posh, but if you want something a little more upscale there is Rumors or Lizard, or more base and ‘local’ like Pacifico. You have plenty of options. Once you know the right people, there are lots of villa parties.
    4. Something for Every Age group
There is something for everyone, from teenagers up to retirees, so if you have multi generational family members visiting, everyone has something to do
    5. Beach bars
In Costa Rica, tamarindo is the undisputed king for beach bars. The beach walk /crawl from Witches Rock to Langosta Beach club takes in probably 10 beach bars, all offering live music, DJs or just great happy hour cocktails
    6. It is magical!
There is an X factor about Tamarindo, it is magical, no other word!
    7. Sportsandactivities
Tamarindo is famous for the surfing, but there is great diving, sport fishing, golf, biking, ATV tours, zip lining, horse riding. Add in turtle tours and the monkey park
    8. It’s safe
In general I always feel completely safe, and will wander along the beach at 2am without a concern. But let’s keep it real, although there is almost zero violent crime in Tamarindo, there is petty thievery such as
sandals taken off the beach, mobile phones being lifted from your pocket in a crowded bar. . Also there are drug dealers on the street doing their thing, but just ignore them and they leave you alone. In general if you keep your wits about you then you are fine.
    9. Weather
Just bring your sandals, t shirts and shorts, weather is great year round. Check out my previous video for the breakdown by month
    10.Infrastructure
Compared to other beach towns, Tamarindo has good infrastructure, proper large supermarkets with brands you recognize, mostly paved roads, police station, gas station, post office

Well, now I'm torn Rich. Torn between Tamarindo and the Caribbean side. My cousin and I landed in Oduber airport July 2nd 2022 and were driven around by friends of his. We stayed at a small hotel La Ramona in Tamarindo and visited up and down the beaches, one in particular Playa Flamingo where I had an Imperial! Plenty of GoPro videos taken! Then on to San Jose and then the Caribbean where we stayed in a great hotel called Umami in Puerto Viejo. Although the Caribbean side has smaller beaches Playa Arrecife and Manzanillo were beautiful.

I recently visited Samara down the coast and found it lovely and in the midst of a development boom. Do you think Samara and other places further down the coast from Tamarindo will also experience (or already are experiencing) infrastructure improvements over the next decade?

The little crabs run across the beach at sunrise everyday looking for a new shell! It was crazy to watch them! We went with a boat to snorkle way out in the ocean- a young boy brought up a pufferfish for us to look at! All puffed up- i jumped off the boat but it got very very rough & wavy so we got back on boat for fear of getting smacked against the rocks! Also went to a volcano spot and there were hot springs to soak and swim in. Heated by the lava underneath- and ate asian food there before coming back to hotel Daria

If we rent an SUV to drive up to Arenal, will our bags be safe if we stop along the way? Or would it be better to rent a car with a locked trunk? Many thanks :-)

As an avid cyclist and fellow triathlete, and visiting the Tamarindo area for the past 20 years, I don't suggest it for fitness bike riding. The roads are still crazy and I don't feel very safe riding my bike there - though there are some great climbs. Not to say you can't ride and do events, I just don't find it ideal from a safety standpoint for training and long rides like I do where I live in the states.

@@cbtamarindo Oh, then I'd better check out Tamarindo on my next trip to Costa Rica!
I just returned from a 2 week visit there last month, spending 4 days in downtown San Jose and 11 days in the Quepos / Manuel Antonio area. I did not know at the time that October is considered the worst of the rainy season months, because Boy did it rain! And it was very humid too! I Love the country and I am seriously considering moving there in 3 years (the reason for my visit), but I would like to settle in an area that is beautiful, has the nature I love, has an active, vibrant community as well as a comfortable climate that I can enjoy. I am already planning my return trip to Costa Rica for the early part of next year.
(P.S. What is the average cost of rent in Tamarindo? Can I get a decent long-term rental for about $1,200.00 to $1,300.00 U.S. a month? NOTE that I just discovered your CZcams channel and have not had a chance to watch your previous videos, but definitely will watch them. Sorry if I am asking questions you have already answered in previous videos.)
(P.P.S. As I write this, I am just about to head out the door for another visit to the San Diego Zoo. Like I said, I Love those monkeys and parrots and toucans and all other things that wiggle and squiggle. My visit to Costa Rica has only increased my desire to be around nature!)
