I went to Costa Rica with my husband and I wish I Watched this before. So he is going back with the kids and I will share it with him. However I m so sorry you had a bad experience with your heart. I’m from Colombia and I prefer to vacation there. Some of the culture is like you suggest. But if you know a family or friends in Colombia go an visit you will be amazed by the weather, food and specially people. And please be open to fall in love you deserve it. You were in the wrong part of the planet.

I'm down here now. I bought a Liberty SIM card from an office near mercado central in San Jose last week. The girl who helped me tacked on an extra 2,000crc "chip fee". I asked her to show me where this fee was in the price menu/brochure and shrugged it off. She would only take cash and she refused to print me out a receipt. Seemed pretty fishy to me but I needed the card and didn't have time to ask around. If she did rip me off it was pretty brazen - in the Liberty office itself!

There are scam artists every were I had a horrible experience in maui & my husband will never go back but Oahu Hawaii was great!

Well, now I'm torn Rich. Torn between Tamarindo and the Caribbean side. My cousin and I landed in Oduber airport July 2nd 2022 and were driven around by friends of his. We stayed at a small hotel La Ramona in Tamarindo and visited up and down the beaches, one in particular Playa Flamingo where I had an Imperial! Plenty of GoPro videos taken! Then on to San Jose and then the Caribbean where we stayed in a great hotel called Umami in Puerto Viejo. Although the Caribbean side has smaller beaches Playa Arrecife and Manzanillo were beautiful.

I did not follow that rule. I bought a house on my first trip down in March, but it was an area that I loved and had all sorts of connections, plus within about a 30MIN drive of a high school friend of mine who moved back to their home country of Costa Rica after graduation. I don’t feel like I got ripped off on the price even though I purchased in march cause I did buy on the Heredia province, in a nice wooded/forested area and with farmland as my immediate neighbor, so it’s not like a touristy place. If you want to buy on the coast definitely hold off and come back a second time first because you almost certainly will be ripped off or not as happy with your purchase in a few months as you thought you would be.

Great video. The idea of bribing police is so gross, but I accept it's part of life in many parts of the world. What would you recommend if I've truly done nothing wrong but am still asked to pay some BS fine? I'd want to tell the officer to F off (of course I won't use that language or be hostile..but that's the idea). Would you say it's best to just consider negotiating bribes as part of the life and work it into my budget? Or is there some way to put them in check and let them know that I'm not going to be a sucker?

Beware of those with an agenda. Especially Real Estate Brokers. They are out to profit rather than give true information. Unless you have Residency it is foolish to even consider buying or importing anything. And will take you roughly 2 years to obtain Residency.

I rent a house with 7 bedrooms/ 5 baths, 4 car garage on 23 acres for $153 a month. I am 76 years old and no children or relatives. I would be an idiot to even consider buying. Plus all repairs are the responsibility of my landlord/owner.
