    I still can't get over the fact that you hadn't looked in the drawers of the furniture yet! That would the be first thing I'd do upon getting it. Maybe I'm just nosy but I love finding little surprises. This was so much fun to watch.

My sister is an interior designer and she has all kinds of ideas. It’s not that it won’t work, it just needs a bit of “tweaking”. Lots of ❤️ to you guys!

    I wouldn't worry about it looking to fussy. When I think of French chateau's I think of gold, colour, scrolls, wall paper, panelling. I think you can make the room work. I'd repaint the cupboards and leave the gold. I'd leave the wall paper in the sides. It's beautiful. I'd use that wallpaper as the base for the whole room and pick out the colours in it. The cupboards in a soft pale blue/grey. The bed in the darker teal/green/blue (sorry hard to see colours. Then blanket and chairs in some other colours. Id also change the mirror for a scrolly one. It would still be simple but with colour. The colour will balance out the fancy look of it but keeping the fabrics simple. Good luck

  • @secondchance23
    @secondchance23 Před 3 lety +1

    For some reason, I think the bed alcove frame with cabinets would be great on the room with the exposed stone wall and side fireplace. You could also let it stay in its current room with some heaven/sky scenery wall painting above it, and stephanie's recommendation of color change.

  • @sarahclarke5500
    @sarahclarke5500 Před 3 lety +5

    After taking another look at the video, it seems to me that the headboard cabinets are quite short compared to the height of the room. If you raised them up a good 12 inches on plinths, they might sit better in the room. The two wall sconces would show but they are so pretty they would only enhance the effect.

    #BordeauxLife The bed set reminds me of the bed wall in the tower bedroom at Chateau de LaLande, the little room that Michae Petherick painted the faux paneling. The two doors to the sides of the Tower rooms are paneled and decorated and then form the niche for bed in the center. The crackle glaze furniture set in Edd & Anna's city Manor house is just a portable version of that same design concept. Since it's generally adored at LaLande that means it's just comes down to the colors,design, and other furniture they add to finish the room. I agree with the others that the two lights are misplaced, probably way to high; I think maybe they should be placed more like bedside reading lamps with softer bulbs. I will love seeing how you finally work it out. Good luck!

  • @tc7486
    @tc7486 Před 3 lety +2

    The bed surround is fabulous! It isn’t over powering. I can’t really tell what color the room is but if it’s white, the color of the painted surround won’t look good against white. That would kill it for me. But if the room were the right color? (I don’t know what that is) it may make the bed surround perfect. Or paint the crackle part a better off white.

    I agree, the base color of the piece doesn't work with the room's paint tones. I also like the central panel on top of the wall, but here's an idea - is there a way to attach it temporarily and live with it for a bit before making a final decision? I think the wall behind the Bed Set should be the same color as those side shelf inserts. It would make the color of the bed set pop. & the other walls might be better as a creme?

    Leave the cream color in a few of the smallest spaces on that bed, but do the large expanses in the pale green, as Stephanie suggests. That way, you can avoid the dreadful job of having to repaint inside all the fussy little squares in the gold cross-hatching (or the daunting task of removing the crosshatching without breaking it, in order to paint underneath). Pick up the cream color with some of the cushions on the bed and incorporate it into some of the other upholstery in the room, to pull everything together.

    Yes, I agree with Stephanie that painting the bed surround with a more complementary colour will blend it into the room nicely. Its present colour is so ‘of the ‘70s’ but looks just plain dowdy now. You are doing a lot of work to make the building enticing to buyers, hopefully the price you get in the sale will make it all worth while.
    What fun it was to find those hidden treasures in the antique cabinets! Now if only you could find things like that for Chateau Lagorce. It is a lovely old building and deserves its history.
    All the best, Sarah from Ottawa

    To explain the 'less fussy with it, than without it' for the bed. Its like a sequined/beaded dress. A dress that's head to toe beads is more toned back, but a dress that's 3/4ths covered in beads can look over the top.

    2:48 I can’t tell if that’s a marble top, I’m assuming it is. This one is a little high, usually the ones I’m thinking of are about waist height, but it may be a “Cooling Table.” Back before A/C, ladies in all their petticoats would rest the bottoms of their wrists on marble tables to cool themselves off. Because stone seems to stay cooler to the touch than the room temperature.
    Edit: ...It was so picturesque with Stephanie leaning against it, it reminded me of this fun fact (:

      Yes they are marble tops.... they were for "gentlemen" to read their papers in the window light hence the height. xx

    Really enjoy your optimism and lovely content - the treasure hunt was great fun! xoxo PS this has to be one of my favorite Chateaux - the symmetry and that beautiful staircase !!! And THE BED! I had the same thought as @GinnyHaddock -- paint it a soft French gray-blue with gold accents - stunning!

    Hi Anna & Ed, lovely to see the progress, it all looks wonderful! Maybe Ed could raise those wardrobes slightly with a plinth painted the same colour so the lights end up slightly underneath the bridge. Agree with painting it all - think crackle glaze / off yellow needs to go!
    Go well lovely family & hope the flood damage is behind you now 🤞

    My father and I loved digging around in attics and basements. I would love the chance to snoop in the attics of some of the chateaus. I would also love to explore some of the brocantes. The antique shops in the states are really expensive but I still love to look and dream.🙏❤️🏰
