  • Jane Austen’s works have become inextricably linked to the fashions of the Regency era, a time when clothing, architecture, and art reflected a transformative period of British history. In this broad overview of Regency period fashion, we look at what influenced the clothing worn by men and women during this time.
Countless adaptations of her novels, from Sense and Sensibility to Northanger Abbey, feature various interpretations of Regency period clothing, a style that can be seen at Regency reenactments and commemoration events for Jane Austen.
This video includes clips from Pride and Prejudice (1995), Persuasion (1995), Sense and Sensibility (1995), Northanger Abbey (2007), and Emma (2019).

Opulence was very unpopular during that time in France because it reminded of the monarchy and its privileges.
Aristocrats were tracked down by the revolutionists, who could suspect anyone with treason because of the way they would cloth. It could explain this sudden simplicity of the garments and of course Napoleon and his empire (inspired by ancient greece)
