- This is the Bizarre Tale of the Death of Darth Bandon & What the Sith decided to do with his head post mortem… among other interested parties.
The Endar Spire
The Story of Darth Bandon is intimately entwined not only with Revans Story, as he regains consciousness aboard the endar spire, at the beginning of the game, but also the players first True companion - Trask Ulgo.
Although we are initially a bit blurry on our relationship with Trask, it quickly becomes apparent, he is a stalwart, albeit brief companion as he aids Revan fighting his way off the endar spire, in hopes of meeting up with the legendary bastila shan, the republics best hope at defeating the sith.
During this time, we, along with Trask, encounter waves of Sith troopers.
And it looks as if we will successfully escape the Spire before she blows, however, our dream of salvation is squashed by a looming Sith also hunting Bastila, named Darth Bandon.
Trask in a moment of heroism, selflessly sacrifices himself, so that we may escape. And there is no way to try aid him as he no doubt perishes battling the unknown Sith.
Later, after Darth Malaks botched assassination attempt via one Calo Nord.
Once you've acquired a third Star Map (the second after Dantooine) and left that world, Admiral Saul Karath approaches Darth Malak on the bridge of the Leviathan to tell him of Calo Nord's death:
Darth Bandon enters, and when a Sith soldier crosses his path he uses the Force to push him into a computer terminal, causing an explosion.
Before we confront the Sith Lord. There are a few fun facts we learn about the Sith, outside the game such as:
1. Bandon’s original design more resembles what became the generic armored Sith apprentice hence why they look like a younger, somehow balder Bandon.
2. His name aptly derives from the word abandon, which we will learn why from his history, not the terrible Brandon it sounds like.
Speaking of bandon’s moniker, To appreciate the Siths greater galactic significance, we must briefly look at the short biography of the Sith thanks to the now obsolete Star Wars Databank entry:
From the Expanded Universe
Like most of Darth Malak's followers, Bandon was once a student of the Jedi. But though the Force flowed through him, Bandon could never accept the Jedi teachings. Powerful emotions like anger and hate raged within him, and they fueled his strength. When the Sith rose to power, Bandon rejected his old Master and fled to the Sith Academy on Korriban.
There he embraced the dark side and the way of the Sith with every fiber of his being. His great strength in the Force, his natural cruelty and his absolute ruthlessness in his quest for power soon set him apart from his fellow students, and drew the calculating eye of Lord Malak himself.
In the tradition of their order, like Revan had previously taken on Malak himself, the Sith Lord sought a single pupil from among his many followers to become his chosen apprentice: one who could learn the terrible secrets of the Sith and use them to destroy the Jedi and the Republic.
Darth Bandon proved himself to be an excellent choice. Many Jedi fell beneath the blade of his lightsaber. Some in the Sith hierarchy wondered if Bandon would someday rise to challenge Malak for the mantle of Dark Lord, for that was the way of the Sith: the strong must rule, and when the apprentice surpasses the Master, the Master must fall.

Here's one to think about. If Trask was literal royalty, then he probably could have secured a high ranking position for himself within the Republic military right off the bat. Instead, he chose to start at the bottom just like everyone else.

That's not to say if Trask was not born Further From the Direct Line of Succession, like say he was the the 3rd or so cousin to whoever was supposed to Rule during the Kotor timeline till eventually Trask's descendent was able to take up the throne.
Trask wasn't "royalty", he was "nobility", as Bouris Ulgo hasn't usurped the throne yet.
Besides, house Ulgo traditions required it's members to reject the pampered lifestyle and serve in the military. Not only that, but his house grew to prominence after the Jedi Civil War.
Trask didn't really have a choice between becoming a high-ranking officer and starting at the bottom, and even if he did, he'd start at the bottom per house traditions.

@@HonestHappyHater Not only all of that, but we must not forget that Alderaan is but a member of the Galactic Republic. Imagine how much of a mess Republic's military would be if it acknoleged and rewarded with higher position every noble of every house on endless amount of planets under its jurisdiction. This is a burocratic hell that would inevetably lead to any amount of interplanetary disputes between all sorts of species regarding military ranks. I very much doubt that any Rubican noble can secure himself better position even if they wish to do so, at the very least without breaking the law

In my experience, Darth Bandon becomes 3000 credits and his fiber armor after Revan defeats him.

Fun fact:
Darth Bandon is programmed to appear as you walk away from a star map after defeating Calo Nord and obtaining the first map. Normally, this means Bandon will appear after the second map. However, the game doesn't specify which map you need to be walking away from, so you can actually trigger the Bandon event early by revisiting the first star map. If you do this, it nearly softlocks the game because Bandon will outclass you. However, he can be beaten with some difficulty.
It's funny to note that Bandon can die in the same spot where Calo Nord did.

For how insignificant he was in the game, I'm surprised they did this.
Its because he did something either that made zero sense, or was extremely heroic.
I'm surprised BioWare never remade Bandons armor for Star Wars the Old Republic when they they remade almost every other characters outfits for that game including Trask Ulgos
When I first got to this part of the Smuggler story, I was actually surprised that it was actually Bandon's head that we've been keeping in our Cargo Hold. I'm always excited when I reach a part from the main Kotor stories :D
This reminded me of how great the smuggler story was in Swtor. I never thought I would be trying to help someone get a little head in a star wars

If you ever get the chance, while it's still active, it's well worth it for the story if nothing else. I was never a huge mmo person, there's just too much running back and forth for me to really enjoy it, but so far I finished the Smuggler and now I'm doing Sith Warrior and the stories are well written and it's fun to play such contrasting characters. Plus Galactic Starfighter is a lot of fun if you learn how to play it properly, and PVP can be fun too but there's a certain meta too it. As a smuggler gunslinger I'm basically shit in PVP unless I had a really good healer to keep me alive so I can keep doing damage with my big power shots. Otherwise, certain builds are just a lot more viable for it.

If I remember correctly, in the game and also expanded lore, the Republic later considered targeting Revan to have been a mistake. Revan was a good ruler, avoided collateral damage and infrastructure, and was civil in his approach. Malak was basically a rape, pillage, and burn kind of guy. His approach wasn't even just burning planets for resisting, but also because he simply felt like doing it on a whim.
Little mistake at 6:44 : it's simply The Old Republic and not Knights of the Old Republic 😉

It is sad they couldn't bury Trask's body. He was a true hero! And it is creepy that Sith acolytes believed that Bandon's dark side aura or spirit could help them after the Second Sith War. I didn't play far into the MMO the one time I tried it. Trask's sacrifice always brings a tear to my eye, a lump in my throat, as well as the desire to avenge his death in KOTOR.
When talking Kotor, I usually refer to the player character as the protagonist, just in case someone hasn't played the nineteen year old game yet

Hilarious if Brandon pushing the Sith soldier into the terminal at 2:26 caused the ship to lose navigation controls or lose weapons at a critical time.

A lot of people use the order of the planets listed in Kotor during that one cutscene (Tatooine, Kashyyyk, Manaan, Korriban) to say that this is the "real" order in which the game should be done. However I actually prefer to go to Kashyyyk first (recruiting Bindo), then go to Manaan, then to Tatooine which gives me time to have my subplot with Bastila's companion quests play out, the romance to occur (if the player chooses) and finally for Bastila to be captured right after this. I guess I'm used to doing it in that order because the machinima or game "movie" I watched that was based on the game ended up doing it that way so it makes more sense. It also makes it more likely that Darth Bandon's head would've been retrieved on land instead of underwater and the Bandon encounter takes place on the third planet you visit in the game regardless.

What’s the difference between a sith and a dark Jedi? I was always confused as to why Trask called Bandon that instead of a sith.
The sith are a specific dark side philosophy, the main one in fact, but not the only dark side force users, sith are ALL dark side force users, but not all dark side force users (dark Jedi, if you will) are sith.
It really is just the finer details. You wouldn't call a night sister or dathomir a "sith" for example, but you would acknowledge they are very powerful with the dark side.
For a wee bit of additional lore, "sith" as you probably know are a species as well, and the namesake of the sith order, as they were a race inherently powerful and attuned to the dark side of the force, amongst and dominant of the original "sith" teachings, which were coined and founded on their home planet of korriban.
I'm not 100% sure of when but at some point after the "exiled dark jed'ai" came to korriban and began to both enslave and interbreed with the species, their offspring were among the first true "sith" as in the philosophy not the species, after the joining of the dark jed'ai and sith species on korriban.

As said, not all dark Jedi are sith, but all sith are dark Jedi. You can use the term for sith, but i imagine Dash was using it also not to say sith 10 billion times xD

Edit: but Sith is a term for a race and philosophy so it can be confusing at times as some folks will refer to sith and mean the species not the force philosophy itself. As often they will refer to sith as dark jedi, but dark Jedi is a loose term for dark side force users in general, and dark side force users who don't adhere to a specific philosophy. The night sisters are dark Jedi, but first and foremost, night sisters in belief and study. Sith are dark Jedi, but sith in philosophy. Just as jedi are light side force users, of the Jedi philosophy, although Jedi despite also being a very specific term has been adopted as a loose term for anyone with a lightsaber and the force sometimes xD even in canon (makes sense for those who know nothing about the force)
Such as you will find absolutely canon in game and show references where people call even sith as Jedi because that's what they know popularly to use lightsabers and the force, regardless of their moral views or actions. Dark Jedi is like that next step up in understanding, the awareness that there even is both a light and dark in the force, and are two separate acting entities.

The first time I played KOTOR 1 was when I was stationed in Iraq. Seems like ancient history. I still consider it one of if not the best sw games ever made.
