  • Hello Friends😍
    This video is about Merchant Navy Life Brake Holding Capacity Test of Mooring Winch | Merchant Navy Life \\ Testing procedure for Brake Holding Capacity of Mooring winch.
    Winch brake tests are to be carried out annually in line recommendations of ISGOTT. Also winches are to be tested after a modification or repair. Make sure that for safe practice always read the manual prior to start the job and follow procedures. In this video i describe the manual testing of collision bulkhead valve.
    Please note that I have used an intrinsically safe camera to shoot all videos in this channel. It a belong to my personal effects.

    Capt. please can you help clarify is the WLL same as the MBL , and should certificate always contain MLB value ? or sometimes only WLL , and is it possible to calculate from WLL to get MBL. Thanks !

    • @MerchantNavyLifes
      @MerchantNavyLifes  Před 4 lety +1

      Negative bro!! WLL is not same as MBL. Normally for ropes WLL=MBL/SF . But in the rope's certificate easily you can find the MBL value. And we should use only MBL value.

  • @LEKLIMCHANNEL
    @LEKLIMCHANNEL Před 4 lety +1

    So capt..for rendering point set always set to 60% and 80%? My vessel also has 2 marker, but set 100% and 80%..help me to clear this issue

    • @MerchantNavyLifes
      @MerchantNavyLifes  Před 4 lety

      It is Typically, mooring winch
      brakes are designed to hold up to 80% of the MBL with
      the capability of adjusting these to 60% of the MBL to
      allow for a margin of safety.
      80% is the ISO limit. Its not good to set the limit for 100%. It should be set to a lower value than MBL. Because main purpose of this is to prevent excessive load to the winch motor.

    • @TheAnu1108
      @TheAnu1108 Před 3 lety +1

      There are basically 2 values BHC brake holding capacity and BRC brake rendering capacity. BHC value should be 80% of the MBL i.e. minimum breaking load of your mooring wire/rope. A typical mooring wire of a VLCC has an MBL of 115 Tonnes. That means your BHC should be atleast 80% of this value which comes out as 92 tonnes. However considering frequency of your mooring operations , Age of your mooring wires and exposure to harsh conditions a 20% safety margin is used to totally rule out any chances of mooring wires breaking. Hence the BRC value which is always 60% of your wire's MBL , which in this case would be 69 tonnes. Always mark 80% and 60% on your winch breaks. Breaks are supposed to slip. That's the whole purpose of them. You don't want to set them at 100% and wait for your mooring wire to break.

    • @MerchantNavyLifes
      @MerchantNavyLifes  Před 2 měsíci

      Its for the adjustment ... for winches and for windless, gap clearance will be different .. normally winches clearance is little bit more than windless clearance .. specific data you may find in your mooring management plan.

    this is wrong as per meg4 we use SDMBL Not LineMBL

    • @MerchantNavyLifes
      @MerchantNavyLifes  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks for bringing up the point. Obviously you are correct. According to MEG4,newly introduced SDMBL should be the initial reference for the BHC test. This video is little bit older as When a ship is built, the mooring winches are equipped with mooring lines of a MBL roughly equal to the SDMBL. Anyway all procedures are same as instructed in the video and we have to use SDMBL instead of MLMBL.
      If existing ships are built as MEG3//Refer to Intertanko Guigance => if there is original SDMBL not available, BHC must me determined from the manufactur's certification and Calculated SDMBL = 125% * mooring winch designed brake maximum holding load.
