    You’re my hero! Seriously!! I’m only 39 and can’t even avoid injuries long enough to stay on the water. Scared to see what my joints have in store for me in 10 yrs much less 35. Truly a hero!

      You are too kind!
      I have leaned how to lessen my exposure to danger, but no way to eliminate it entirely. I am grateful that my body has been kind to me so far.
      Keep chasing wave and your body will respond with longevity 🙂

    Rick still cant believe the surf you get there in Mass, far and away better than we get here on the gulf coast except for during storm swells. Who would have thought that the northeast got such clean little waves 🤫🤐

    Hey Rick, I recently got a used 9'5 JL Striker to start learning. Been going out here in SE Florida over the past month even if it's flat. Then I got the chance to catch some real waves thanks to Earl. Your videos have played (& continue to play) a huge role in my development and excitement over getting into this sport. Thank you so much for doing what you do!!! And keep up the great work!

      @rickweeks  Před 5 měsíci

      Hi Eric!
      Yes... my first session on a longboard SUP in years, but changed to my Ghost cuz I wasn't feeling the longboard on those waves.
      You were riding an Infinity B-line I think? I got some fleeting vids of you with my SoloShot!
      Thanks for reaching out.... I appreciate that!
      I have been surfing the entire Space Coast this week looking for wind/tide/swell spots.
      See you out there!!

      Thanks Austin, I appreciate the feedback!
      My experience with inflatables is ... they are very hard to surf. UNLESS you can get ahold of a TripStix inflatable surf SUP... they are simply amazing.
      So don't get frustrated... just learn what you can, then conside getting any used hard board or even a Costco SUP to learn on... they will be easier than an inflatable IMO

    Good day Rick, I'm over 70 as well and have been wanting to try out an SUP in my van travels. I would love the hard sup but just No Room inside or out for storage. Would an inflatable be worth the investment. I'm jonesing to ride so I guess that answers my question but would still like any advice you can offer. Thank you, maestro, for your time and consideration.

    • @rickweeks
      @rickweeks  Před rokem +1

      k K... yes... get a board and get after it!!
      If that means getting rid of all the other stuff in your van, so be it!
      Vans are meant to hold boards.... not a bunch of house wares!!
      Maybe a 9'5 ONE hanging from the ceiling!
      Or racks on the side of the van... lots of workarounds!
      If you are just planning to paddle flat-water, then there are some very nice Inflatables to consider....
      but get a good one. One that pumps up to 21 PSI and won't fall apart when you are out on the water.
      So many ways to go... you'll figure it out!
      Have fun!!! Live big!!!!

    Very nice video! I am about to purchase my first hard paddle board for small waves, how much buoyancy margin between board displacement and your weight do you normally have?

    • @rickweeks
      @rickweeks  Před rokem +1

      Hi Vincenzo, welcome to the awesome world of SUPsurfing!
      I have many boards ranging in size from 8’3 to 12’
      Volumes run from 123 liters to 200 L
      Industry standards say use your weight in kg and multiply it by 1.7 to 2.0 for new SUPsurfers.
      It’s not always that simple.
      Much depends on age, skill level, experience in the surf on other boards.
      Width and surface area are also important.
      If you email me at
      supthecreek@gmail.com
      I will send you a questionnaire that I created to help get the right information to recommend an appropriate shape and size

    Would love to see the whole video of the recent clip you showed at the boat ramp comparing the stability of the 8'8" Flow V2 with what appeared to be the 8'8" SP 25 and the Placid. Is that posted somewhere that I missed?

    • @rickweeks
      @rickweeks  Před rokem

      Hi John
      I have not posted it anywhere because I usually do the tests to answer direct questions.
      I constantly refer to them and send shor clips that match a persons questions.
      Problem is, I have filmed a LOT of stability comparison videos and they all end up kind of long, so I don't know if the general viewers would want to sit through them.
      I can send you any comps you want... just email me with the boards and I'll see what I have.
      Today was "ho-to" filming session, because I get a lot of requests for information.

    Hey Rick! What exactly is the Kanga / Genration? I've seen the name around a lot in relation to Sunova.

    • @rickweeks
      @rickweeks  Před rokem +1

      Hi Kent
      GenRation is a group of APP World Tour Pro SUP surfers that have their own SUP coaching retreat.
      They spent several years working with Bert Berger from Sunova, to fine tune boards that would help them win on the World Tour.
      After the shapes were settled, they signed on with Sunova.
      Their boards are under the GenRation series - shaped made by Sunova
      What they ride are the exact shapes and constructions as the production boards you can buy.
      Rider models are
      Sean Poynter - Multiple World Titles - SP25 & SP24 - plus he has won an APP Tour event on the SP25
      Daniel Hughes - Top Tour Pro -- Wedge
      Ian "Kanga" Cairns - Surfing legend - team coach - Kanga
      Falcon = big wave board
