    Hi Rick, my name is Brian Payne and I really enjoy your videos, thank you for sharing. I live in Santa Cruz, Ca and surfed all my life. After my hip replacement 5 years ago I started Supping and love being back out in the water. Here suppers are relegated to only a few surf spots if you don’t want to suffer threats and possible injury even though I grew up here, at 74 that is out of the question! Ha. Seeing you on so many waves, having fun, is my dream and I’m stoked you’re living the dream. Keep the videos coming.

      @rickweeks  Před 29 dny

      Hi Brian, thanks for your support and great comment!
      You live in one of those holdover territorial places, and sometimes localism is the only way to keep a great break from being overrun with crowds
      It sucks but it's better than some faceless bureaucrat making up regulations to manage behavior.
      The great thing about SUP is the ability to reach breaks few surfers can access. I will paddle a mile or two, up a coastline to inaccessible breaks and surf alone.
      Enjoy that beautiful wave mecca you have and don't let the tough guys have all the fun!

      Glad I could lighten up the winter for you!
      I gave up winter. I simply can't surf well in a full wetsuit any longer, so when ice forms, my van heads for warm weather.

      @rickweeks  Před rokem

      Thank you so much Jorge... that's awesome!
      Hopefully you started on the right board, because it is tough when starting from scratch!
      One thing I urge new SUPster to do is to paddle on flat-water (saltwater, so it has the same float as the ocean) Get very comfortable on your board in very calm water.... ANY waves or boat wakes can make it really hard to build the skills and wake up your "small twitch" muscles (muscles we used as kids to climb trees, fun on uneven terrain)
      As your comfort increase.. add in more challenging moves like take a step back and spin the board with the tail down in the water a bit... stuff like that.
      Then pick very calm days to surf.
      Once you have the basics down, it becomes a whole different ballgame!
      Stay with it... it WILL get better!!

      Those are all in the plan... I worked long sessions with Bert Burger to seek those exact qualities!
      We worked a bit more on wave entry on the new version (due in 2 weeks)
      I want to make sure that it is truly effortless entry in low power conditions that many surf daily.
      It amazes me more every session 🙂

    Brah, I so needed to see this! Just woke up… It’s a little before 6 AM on Maui and my friends and I will be taking a bunch of supplies to the Westside today. Been feeling so helpless waiting for generators, tents, and essentials to get here on a flight yesterday. Unloading the flatbed and then loading up two 10 foot box U-Haul‘s and hopefully headed out and about six hours. I haven’t felt like getting in the water and surfing… I can’t do it while I know people are suffering. Thanks for posting this though… It replenished my soul for the day. Love you brother ♥️ Maui Deb

      Thank you so much for posting Chyna's video.... she articulated the hard truths of this nightmare out to people in a way that can't be understood from official coverage. I shared it so others might hear a first hand detailed and chilling story from one of the survivors that made fortunate decisions and escaped.
      Please stay strong and lift others, you are more powerful than you know for all those who have been ravaged to their soul. ❤

    Hi from Aus. Rick.. Loving your vids and reviews. I'm looking at updating to a slightly shorter board, down to 8'10", and am inclined twards either the placid or the flow, and, as I value your opinion, and have a somewhat similar style to you, I was wondering if you could give me what you consider the better of the two and why... Oh, nasty shorebreaks at my local, so able to take a knock or two is important. Cheers and thank"s. John

      supthecreek@gmail.com
      To give you the best advice, I will need more info
      Some quick and dirty comps:
      Placid is far more stable size for size... example 8'10 Placid is noticeably more stable than the 9' Flow
      Flow is faster and handles a wider range on condition IMO
      The Placid is super turny and fun to ride... but needs a bit of "something" from the wave to get into gear
      The Flow always eluded me until I put Quobba fins on my 9'4 Flow and it turned into a favorite.
