$400 Kawasaki Mini Dirt Bike From 1977 - Will It Run?

  • I bought this little dirtbike four years ago, and never did anything with it because I was busy with other projects. In this video I finally give it some attention and see if I can get it running. It is a 1977 Kawasaki KD100. The engine is a 100cc 2 stroke rotary valve, and the transmission is a 5 speed manual.

But in late April I wheeled it outside and rode around in the slush. Was soooo fun. What neat little bikes. Essentially the same as yours but different plastics and color.

Sounds like it needs an oil-can round it and some loving care… that kickstart pedal squeaked in protest when you folded it out to turn the engine over by hand. I had a 74 mc1 90. It was my 1st bike, and it was an absolute tank. The rubber grommet that the cables pass through that attach to the carb, didn’t make a proper seal leading to a seizure of the piston and the destruction of the cylinder. RIP little Kawasaki.

Having owned a kawi from 1969 that had dual carbs and dual rotary valves ( actually disc's) , this little machine should have some real pep! Mine was a Kawi 350 Avenger, and it was a scrambler model that was fitted with some nice off road nobbie tires. It really screamed, I mean there wasn't a bike made that would keep up with it thru the 1/4 mile, but it was too heavy for the trails in retrospect. Then the 500 triple came out and the Avenger became a footnote in history! I only owned that bike for a yr until I blew it up, and turned my interest to a 57 Chevy Pu.
