I buried my son in 2010 after him losing his fight with Cerebral Palsy and this song touches my heart. You Naysayers can just step back and let parents like me have something like this song help us find closer. OK!
I am so sorry for your loss 😩🙏 sending you angels to repair your heart, even though it’s six years since you left the comment 😇😇😇😇 Btw, I lost my husband and I also have this song to go down memory lane
I know that loving slow, emotional songs like these make me seem like a depressed person, and that when I play them people yell at me to play happier songs, but it's like this kind of music touches hearts the most. Or at least it gives me the illusion that it reaches through my emotionless fog to touch my heart.
My grandma never let me listen to this song when I was younger. As an adult, I see a song that celebrates the fragility of life and in doing so celebrates life itself. It is not eternal, our walk on this planet, and it is precious, perhaps even sacred. We are each a unique individual, with our own talents, hopes and dreams, and all I see is a song that celebrates our wild, and unpredictable experience called life.
This song and video are one of the most moving that have ever been recorded. Dave's voice puts so much emotion into the words its almost tear wrenching.
@@darnellpistachio2991 yes they could've been. Let's say she had 2 kids when she was about 20, that's 1923, and then 20 years later her kids of age to go to war that's 1943. WW2 started in 1939 and ended in 1945.
My grandmother died to cancer yesterday. Her name was Judith Crook and she died at 73... 73 is forever when you're just a little kid, so Judith Crook lived forever... She was outlived by my great-grandmother. You should never have to bury your own babies...
I am always so touched whenever I hear this song. Today it reminded me of my triplets that I lost about 2 and a half years ago , and for the first time in a long time it was a comforting memory.
i dedicate this to my dad, my little sister died when she was just a year old. and when Dave goes "you should never have to bury your own baby's", gets me every time.
i went to a concert one night and all of a sudden the sky opened up and it started pouring at the start of this song...everyone was screaming "SO THAT IIIIII CAN FEEEEELL THE RAAAAIN!" it was pretty epic &&this song makes me feel like Im such a badass when I'm really not [=
This song not only reminds us that life is so dear to us... but also that death takes us all with no favor to timing. There is little anyone can do to prepare for a death. Awesome song!
This song hits my heart. I cry for those who have died, those I have personally loved and cared for and for those who are passed that I don't know but pray for. I hope when I die that I too can feel the rain.
Where do they get such great actors and film directors??? I love whoever plays Cyrus Jones. Dave is an awesome actor with all those emotions and soul-shaking lyrics
2003, early morning, basic training, barracks this was on buddies radio, playing real low of course... inspection pending and coming up fast this song pretty much well described my mood that morning, lol i'll never forget it
Dave has such passion, just love his expression here- You should never have to watch as your own child is lowered in the ground, I mean never bury your own babies.... I salute artist that can sing and express themselves for us and not just themselves all the time... Kudos again my man! Losing my son was never is my "plan" for life - Thank You everyone...
so awesome. the lyrics are phenomenal. this is the kind of music that people 100 years from now will look back on and say "why don't we have music like this now?!"
The grave lost to the power of the cross and my sins hold me down no more with a sigh and sore I will meet you on that heavenly shore. Remember the things that are forever for these things shall pass and be no more but the love of my Savior within my heart saves your very soul I wish him to impart. "T"
This song reminds me of a poem I read once in high school. It was about the man who carved the stones, but realized how much people doctored the truth about a person when they died. It's very moving.
I'm glad to see that people have the freedom to express their opinions in a public forum like this. Whether you believe in a higher power or not, doesn't it take faith either way? Also, did you like the song?
No one in my immediate family (mom, dad, brother, sister, daughter) has lived to the age of 60. I will be 59 somewhere around February 28/March 1 (I'm a leap year child Feb. 29). I have left instructions to have this played at my funeral. Dave Matthews whales "Gravedigger" as if it blows from his soul...
I love this song and other songs by Dave Matthews Band. I felt so sad when LeRoi died but they're still making some good songs now. I know LeRoi's spirit is still lingering around them as he's there for his friends.
I've never considered myself a Dave Matthews fan in the past. I recently returned from New Orleans where I attended Jazz Fest. Dave was the final act on a Sunday night. Amazing show!
4:14 Dave's expression here scares me. It says "no more talking, no more negotiations, no explanations...it's done. Now, from life I must depart myself. Potentially an Oscar winner.
I'm sorry for your loss, the loss of pieces of yourself. Guard what's left of your heart. Maybe you'll find the rest of it someday. I hope you can. I'm trying to find mine.
My boyfriend was digging a grave for my dog when I first heard this. It was really quite poignant. It was raining, and I wanted to be in that shallow grave, next to my dog.
In my opinion, this is raw Dave Matthews. it's my understanding that he had a pretty hard upbringing in South Africa. He has also said that his lyrics and his music get a lot of their influence from his childhood. Life can be rough at times and I think this music video does a fantastic job depicting how people (namely Dave) see death and loss of life. Also, if anything I think this song can also be seen as an anti war song. Great work. Tim on guitar at the end is the best way to wrap up the song
Perhaps the last show my wife will see was Dave in San Jose this last year. Thank God for all the artists including John Baltic who started a fund raiser on indiegogo called 10000 hearts for my wife. I love this stuff. We artists all need to stick together.
when you have cancer this song means a great deal.i listened to this when i had a second go round with it,and it helped a lot.it is a good coping song, and soothing in its own way.
When my boyfriend buried my dog 'Moose' a few years ago, this happened to be playing on the radio. I thought that was eerie. Not as eerie as finding this video tonight, with every single image just as intact as it should be in the 'perfect' song. I've never seen a 10 out of 10 song.
I couldn't agree more... I also like songs that strike to the core. Genre doesn't matter it's the artist who matters, and you can tell when a song has meaning by the vocals and the music. Though i do listen to some "happy" or "light-hearted" music, because a balance is good. I have a song for almost every event or mood.
My 1st time hearing this song I was just a 5 or 6 year old boy, waiting for the bus ever since I've never forgotten even though back then back then it wasn't okay for a guy like me to be interested in anything other than rap but i never really cared much for stereotypes I loved/love beautiful music and this is beautiful
This is my first time hearing a non-Dave and Tim acoustic version of this song. If I could travel back in time and taint kick past me for not listening this song for so many years, I would.
I am a high school teacher who just left the wake of a beautiful student of mine who died in a car accident. I hope I don't live long enough to see another student of mine in a casket. Sixteen is too young to die. Rest in peace, Angel.
Gravedigger when you dig my grave
Could you make it shallow
So that I can hear Dave
😂👏👏👏👏👏
Oh bang! Yes please ❤
That’s won my internet forever
I buried my son in 2010 after him losing his fight with Cerebral Palsy and this song touches my heart. You Naysayers can just step back and let parents like me have something like this song help us find closer. OK!
Bless your heart, so sorry for your loss and i pray your beautiful angel is always with you
Thank You!
+Firstdale d omg I'm so sorry I can't imagine
I'm terribly sorry for your loss, my heart and love goes out to you

Agreed, our happiness has numbed us to life.
Who cares what these people want?
True that! I play such songs, but for myself and I feel'em!

Right the fuck on
Agreed
I havnt shed a tear in 10 years yet this song for some reason makes my eyes watery. always.
Jesus, Dave Matthews can take any subject and write/sing it like nobody's business. Easily one of the greatest of all time.
I've always loved Dave Matthews. This song in particular was one of his best that's why he won a grammy. It's simply beautiful
Depressing as owt tho
I wouldn't call winning a grammy much of an accolade these days alas 🤨
This song and video are one of the most moving that have ever been recorded. Dave's voice puts so much emotion into the words its almost tear wrenching.
You know the song is good when it gives you goosebumps all over.
Verse 2 just ruined the goosebumps
If she was born in 1903 her children were not in WW2. Lol.

so awesome. the lyrics are phenomenal. this is the kind of music that people 100 years from now will look back on and say "why don't we have music like this now?!"
This song is deep. Dave Matthews uses an old childrens song for it just great. Its perfect
It's such a powerful song AND video. Something that not too many artists can accomplish.
I walked past the cemetary in my town yesterday. I saw the grave of a boy who only lived for ten months in 1956. Kid missed one heck of a ride.
The grave lost to the power of the cross and my sins hold me down no more with a sigh and sore I will meet you on that heavenly shore. Remember the things that are forever for these things shall pass and be no more but the love of my Savior within my heart saves your very soul I wish him to impart. "T"

Just brilliant and wonderfully morbid...
Nine times out of ten this song makes me sing or cry. Tonight I did both.
It's rare that I love both the original and a cover, but I love both Willie and Dave's version for different reasons.
The music video just brings this song to a whole new level of awesome.
I think the fact that he put Ring Around the Roses in the song makes him genius
How are you doing today my name is Eric Moore
one of daves best

Dave makes everything better
I love this song and other songs by Dave Matthews Band. I felt so sad when LeRoi died but they're still making some good songs now. I know LeRoi's spirit is still lingering around them as he's there for his friends.
LOVE THIS! As a paranormal investigator I can attest, you are NEVER EVER alone when you visit a cemetery or graveyard (there is a difference).
Excellence, I mean really the first time I heard this song, I literally got goosebumps, he enthralls so much emotion and truism through his songs.
This song always gives me chills.
I've never considered myself a Dave Matthews fan in the past. I recently returned from New Orleans where I attended Jazz Fest. Dave was the final act on a Sunday night. Amazing show!
Ring around the rosey
Pocket full of posey
Ashes to ashes
We all fall down
The man in the hat and overcloak fascinates me, is he suppose to be The Grim Reaper?
Awesome music video I never get tired of watching this.
dave matthews- a truly awesome musical genius
4:14 Dave's expression here scares me. It says "no more talking, no more negotiations, no explanations...it's done. Now, from life I must depart myself. Potentially an Oscar winner.
I absolutely love this song....I don't plan to be buried, but it makes you think...
I don't plan on being buried either!
Listen to this song on repeat all day! Love Dave!!!
This use to be one of my moms favorite songs.. Will forever bring me such great memories. I love you forever and always..
My dad is a huge Dave Matthews fan. I always used to HATE him, but now I'm addicted to him. XD He's amazing.
the reason dave matthews version is so good is because off his past and how much emmotion he has
I am stunned by the intensity of this song. I am equally as stunned by the cinematography and editing of this video.
How are you doing today my name is Eric Moore
I like this song
Buried a dear friend of mine. I see him in my dreams. To me he'll be alive until I die.
I'm sorry for your loss, the loss of pieces of yourself. Guard what's left of your heart. Maybe you'll find the rest of it someday. I hope you can. I'm trying to find mine.

I can so follow your thoughts, even though it sounds dramatic too other people ( than maybe you and me ) 😢😓😊
" Better is being in the house of morning than the house of joy". Words of the alleged King Soloman.

Such a well played song and video. It gives me goosebumps… in so many levels!
I totally forgot about this song until last night. This is a great song!!!!
What a powerful song.
Well... This is officially the only Dave Matthews song I like... He did a good cover of an already awesome song
This song is beautiful

Trey Anastasio and Dave Matthews make such an awesome duo
Great song and still one of my favorite music videos.
at the time i wasnt kidding now i have a new life and the wounds are still healing
thanks for thinking of me
Prefer this version of Dave Matthews to his more flowery band stuff.. Also love his acoustic solo music.. Awesome!
dave acting so soo much emotion in the video
Dave is awesome and even a really nice person
i was brought up listening to dave and am 14 now and still love it
And now 23 :)

I watched this like a million times and it never gets old
I cry everytime...
I had thought this was Willie's song, both versions are outstanding. Dave Matthews is a great talent
Soul shaking.
Barry was a good hamster, strong, confident, energetic, and free.
He will be missed. *bows head*
My condolences
Work of Virtue

Awww i guess u're 25 yo now

One of The best and misunderstood Dave songs
song gives me chills so hard.
Trust me. Burying the dead is only the second hardest part of the whole experience.

I didn't know Mitch liked Dave Matthews Band. That is awesome. Plus this a great song :3
ahhhh, this song is so beautiful.
such a heavy song, video just enhances it
Feeling quite silly coming back here after all these years - totally worth it though
best song on earth by dave and crew
gives me chills everytime. DAMN.
Willie!!!!!! I like him because his voice is a little deeper and raspier and I think thats better for a song like this.
wow. goosebumps.
