  • How Long Would it Take Us to Get to Pluto?
Once upon a time, in 1930, there was a little 11-year-old girl called Venetia. One morning, as she was eating breakfast with her grandfather, it struck her to suggest calling the newly discovered planet Pluto. And that’s exactly what happened!
Pluto is a really cool place in outer space! It's much smaller than Earth's Moon, and it has a nice heart-shaped glacier that's the size of Texas and Oklahoma combined. It’s an icy dwarf planet that is very, very far away from us. It's so cold that nothing can live on it. It's about half the size of the United States and it's so far away from the Sun that it takes over 30 years for it to go around the Sun once!
Pluto has blue skies, and it has spinning moons that look like they're dancing in the sky. There are also really tall mountains like the ones here on Earth, and when it snows, the snow is red!
Have you ever wondered how long it would take us to get to Pluto? The answer lies within the vastness of space and the technology we have available to us.
How long would it take us to go to Proxima Centauri?
That of one day reaching out and touching the stars is a relatively recent desire of our species...We can perhaps date its appearance to 1838, the year, that is, when the German astronomer Friedrich Bessel first succeeded in determining the distance to a star and clarifying the extent of the problem we faced.
A dream, we said,,,,, but with recent advances in technological development it seems that dream is slowly becoming a reality...hand in hand with our growing awareness of the limited resources and environmental problems we face here on Earth.
Indeed, stars are far, far too far away... But, there you go... If there were an exoplanet with some Earth-like qualities within a radius of a few light-years (not a hundred or a thousand, as is the norm) then yes, this could work!
It would do a bit like the Moon, which served as a first step, a spur to get us to the other planets... We could start seeing interstellar space as a sea sprinkled with islands, rather than as the current unreachable void.
    What a pity!

According to NASA it takes Pluto 248.59 years to orbit the sun. Also, the New Horizons Spacecraft was launched in 2006 and flew past Pluto in 2015, by my maths that works out at 9 years not hundreds. I usually like Insane Curiosity videos, but this one is so bad I stopped watching after 2:20.

It wouldn't take hundreds of years to get to Pluto one human made craft has visited it, New Horizons, and although they didn't visit Pluto Pioneer 10 and 11 and Voyager 1 and 2 are way past it's orbit and it didn't take them hundreds of years.Humans however need to eat and drink so wouldn't be able to do the same trip as those 5 probes.

If Persephone indeed is launched and begin orbiting Pluto in 2058, then I will be around 80 years old at that time. I hope I´m around to see the pictures from the side of Pluto we didn´t get as detailed photos of from New Horizon. I also hope there is no delays for the Persephone mission, if possible I hope for an earlier date of orbit insertion. (Persephone seems to be a good chosen name, from what I can tell when searching for the name´s meaning / background.)
I also hope we copy the design and send orbiters to both Neptune and Triton, to both Uranus and Miranda and all the other moons of both planets.

-6:15 it’s actually Sputnik Planitia. NOT Planinninum
-It takes Pluto approx 248 years to orbit the sun not 30
    -it’s pronounced “kar-on” not Sharon
-at the time when new horizons launched it was the fastest spacecraft ever (since beaten by the Parker probe) and launched in 2006. It arrived at the Pluto system in 2015, took 9 years and not the suggested hundreds. And when talking about going to our nearest star, we’re talking tens of thousands of years.
-11,000 foot mountains are “really tall” indeed!!
I feel like I was watching a video for a 5 year old along with totally misguided information. I normally enjoy these videos as basic as they are as background noise but i feel you guys have been slippin lately. "Proxima" means "close", so it shouldn't take that long... 🙄

Also suggest you triple-check your pronunciations of "Persephone" and "von Neumann"

And "close" is a relative concept of distance, not a definitive one! 😊

Okay, so you guys deleted my comment...let me put it in a way that meets your guidelines, specifically the one about how "questions are encouraged"...
What was the motivation to deviate from objective, space-related content - that you're so well-known for in the first place - in favor of a subjective video only explaining or exploring one side of an issue? Every sentence with "catastrophists" in it was a subjective statement (i.e. an opinion), so why the shift?
I think my original comment was more than respectful in the way I stated it, so if you continue to delete what you claim to encourage, I'll have no choice but to conclude that you do not actually have the objectivity that I once thought your channel had.

    • @SteedRuckus
      @SteedRuckus Před 9 měsíci

Also, I'm only including it on this video because there is a relevant difference in the objectivity of THIS video (and the normal subjects you cover) and the video(s) in question, so this is not an irrelevant question in relation to this video.

I watch insane curiosity, but lets face it, the writing is usually always terrible. Repetitive, often featuring outright wrong information, not to mention packed with mispronounciations in the voiceover. Yet... here i am.

Guys, guys, guys! You got it all wrong it's so much faster if you just fold space. I mean come on, why waste time and fuel when folding space is so much smarter. Just like this fairytale video is. Lol. Everything in this video is make believe. Why go the speed of light? That's for whimps! Go 100 times the speed of light and get there in a couple weeks! I can play make believe just like this video does. Speculating on things that aren't even in sight of us accomplishing is fairytale and that's for little children to listen to
