Everyone acting as though the lyrics in this song were ahead of it's time. As a person who was brought up in this time era... I can assure you we were all on point with this. Feels like we have gone in reverse the last ten years for some reason.
We definitely have went backwards I remember the 90s too and I thought we were more progressive then than we are now
It's funny that in the decade of the Rodney King beating and the O.J. Simpson trial, black-white relations in the USA were better than today. The amount of fear and distrust being instigated by politicians/media/educational system is sickening. Anyone who doesn't believe it, can ask an black person over 35. Same goes for m/f relations. The only thing that's gotten better is LGBT. They really had it tough in the 90s.
This is true
Oh yes.
This.
The only group ever comprised of 4 lead singers. EPIC
Epic comment! 💯
RIGHT ON! Fab 4 all the way!!
If only Destiny's Child had been as egalitarian. The women of En Vogue have always been able to have their own individuality and time to shine without trying to outshine one another---seamlessly balancing solos with tight harmonies. It keeps things fresh.
They all have unique gorgeous looks.
My Dad was a textbook 80's metal head, and he LOVED this song. I would constantly find him blasting it and air guitar-in'
My kind of guy I was a rocker to I had guns and roses album appetite for destruction
Good music is good music. I'm all over the place with what I listen to.
Yeah, I loved Metal in college( 89-94), but this was one of my favorite songs. Most of their songs actually. Along with some of the (then new) rap. Good music is good music.
I'm 40 years old and forgot how damn good they were!! There is nothing comparable in today's music to what these ladies were putting out!
Just turned 40 myself. Man I miss the 90s!
They had great liveshwos during the pandemic, worth a listen :D
I'm about to be 39 and allllll the feels to this and missing the 90s! These "times" suck! Lol

I'm a hardcore metal rock dude. This song is amazing. Easily one of the best rock songs of the decade. Hugely underated group.

Fr? This used to be my stripper song 🥁..
Also, I kind of just wanted to unclutter my head but here we r again. Sigh..I haven't heard this in awhile
@@ahhwe-any7434 it's amazing energy for a stripper song though.
And ya know this wasn't even a rock song. It's was r&b. But I agree this can definitely be considered a rock song
They were one of the strongest (vocally) girl groups in history. You can never compare girl groups of today who are all about visuals to these legendary ladies who has given us one of the most iconic girl empowerment anthems.
"One of"? Name a fitting rival, and I would concede, but I dispute your claim to their being "one of". They were thee strongest when it came to shared vocals. Every lady could sing, and we all knew it, because each voice was heard.
@@valentinomiller6251 Come on... have you heard of The Supremes? If not, then you're in for some serious vocal talent
This song has more meaning then any from females these days. Need more like this
dman Woowoo The supremes? Seriously! I love them but they don’t hold a candle to En Vogue vocally!
What about other 90s groups like TLC and Destiny's Child?
More than 30 years later, still kicks more rear end than 95% of modern music
The harmonies these ladies pull off in all their songs are insane. 80’s babies grew up in the golden era of music. No way can you change my mind.
You would have to be born in the 70s to appreciate the 90s
90s 💯
@@MichaelOBrien71 I was born in the early 80s and I appreciate and remember this music.
I will have to disagree(without changing your mind) on the grounds that the music from my Boomer parents was better. 70's were amazing. I think because the technology didn't allow to overproduce a song with prerecorded samples. People had to play all the instrumental parts and record them over and over to layer them over the melody.
Lo
En Vogue casually slayed the muthafuckin’ GAME with this song, video and style! This still boppin in 2019...these divas were WAAAAY ahead of their time!!!
Well said!!!!
I agree. Im back here in 2021
Not really ahead. Was talking about this back then. Still talking about it now.
Funky Divas was (and is to this day) one of the best albums I've ever owned! Their voices meld so beautifully together. They are very, very underrated. Love En Vogue!

This song has been out for how long now
I remember when they released this song. Many were shocked. I'm glad that their musical team had them take risks. This worked well
It was at number 1 for an eternity here in the UK. It really is a great song, and gets it's message across far more effectively than any of the mindless PC nonsense happening today.
Sadly it was the only real success story En Vogue had over here. A few of their other songs were reasonably well known because they were in movies - but that was it. They vanished from the charts after this song and only get mentioned now on a handful of music channels when a 90's recap must be produced.
This hits so hard. The high notes are crazy!!!

They were sooo ahead of their time. Love this song. Edgy, sexy, free, unique, whatever you name it. Love this video!

100% sexy cool.
Not ahead of their time, but OF their time. "Colorblindness" is a very 90s concept that is now considered "problematic" by the woke.
Besides the obvious incredible voices. The individual FASHION and attitude they had was incredible!
also love your profile picture.
the video is still just as cool as it was back in the day.... that guitar =) the girls are very sexy

This is what classy women look and act like. Sexy not slutty. Talented beyond belief. Friggin LOVE En Vogue and have since 1990 wheb I first saw them. I am 42 now and still rock their cds. Yes...cds. Played on a actual boom box. No streaming downloading for me 😛
Thirty-two years later and this song still slams HARD! Everything about it -- beat, lyrics, vocals, video, message - everything is HOT! This one should make you move and think. If it doesn't, check your brain at the door.

It's always been my favorite line in the song.
This video never gets old. It could be from 2042, not 1992.
Ma insomma
EPIC. Flawless. Timeless. This is one of those songs that will stand stylistically alone. There will never be another one like it.
God I hope newer generations discover these badass queens. They have such beautiful voices and are stunning. Not only that but they had purpose in their lyrics as well. I am so glad I grew up in the 90s listening to them and admiring them. They are amazing
Also one of the few groups where every woman could sing, and every one sang lead on at least one hit. They had untouchable harmonies and individual vocals, as well as cutting edge style and videos
The best part is they are real women
I'm 20 and my mom played a lot of 80s and 90s music, En Vogue being one of her favorites. This song is one of my all time favorites

Coming from an older generation/environment where appearance was, unfortunately, a factor in judgement, i'm privileged to have had these ladies, among so many more, to show me the correct and humane way of seeing people. "BE COLORBLIND... DON'T BE SO SHALLOW." Pretty powerful sentiment. Especially today, June 2, 2020. Can I get a witness?
More black artists should do rock. It sounds powerful
Black artists created rock!
Listen to some old school black rockers or some early punk rock pioneers. If you like a bit of edge listen to Bad Brains and the band called Death. Honestly this song still slaps
It's amazing how music from almost 15 years ago can still apply to today's society, 100%. It's also kind of sad that people even had to make these sort of statements, then AND now. But, what are you gonna do? People will always be shallow and ignorant, unfortunately. Thankfully, though, now people aren't afraid to speak out and be strong. So not only is this song the fucking jam, it's also incredibly powerful and positive. Man, the 90's were fuckin iconic

And to make the point even more dramatic still: this song is, at this point in time (Oct. '16), almost 25 years old! Yup!

So you're on a rant about people's prejudice while you have a screen name about boinking dead people?
Sometimes stereotypes are true, that is how they become known as stereotypes. Is it fair to paint everyone that fits the description HAS one of the idiots? No, of course not. But it's human nature to do so.
Super.Chuck First of all, not sure what you're getting your panties in a twist for. I didn't say anything about a stereotype, I was just saying how this music is empowering and how it's unfortunate that some of the prejudice and ignorance is still happening today??? Not sure what's wrong with me saying that & also don't care. And secondly, you really need to get your facts straight, my dude. *Necrophilia* is when you commit sexual acts on a dead body. *Necromancy* is basically calling upon spirits and talking to the dead. But either way, thanks for your opinion? And regardless, have a great day👌

Because you really think the price is high for me
I can't look without being watched, and oh
You rang my buy before I made up my mind, OW!

Song was insanely ahead of its time.
I don't know what's more impressive, that they are all such amazing vocalists or that they are so mind-numbingly gorgeous? I mean, other girl groups would be lucky to have one member who was remotely as talented as any one from En Vogue and (at best) one or two who could look half as hot!
They could all sing lead (and did it AMAZINGLY WELL), their harmonies were insane, their songs were awesome and all four looked like beauty queens!!!
One of the most iconic and legendary groups of the 90s - or any era for that matter!
Underrated song of empowerment
Damn, I wish I had a large stereo to blast this on right now . . .
My favorite part is 1:17 with the head shake 😊, and yes I'm listening to this in 2023. Wished music nowadays was still like this
