I wish more video was available about Sam. He was .... I was gonna say before his time but that isn't quite right. His talent was so immense in the right ways he probably could have broken through in most eras of popular music. But history doesn't quite do him justice. He should be remembered like Jimi and Ray in the popular imagination.
This video is stunning. His charisma is hard to appreciate today. The context of that year .... His skin color. It doesn't need to be said. He just intuitively had this thing.... He out people at ease. He was as big as elvis in his day. Both on RCA. Plus he was black.
I wish we had more video of him. Best recorded singer ever. Hands down.

Sam was a great talent but also engaged in risky behavior. His death had nothing to do with race or gun culture. Stop virtue signaling long enough to really read all the facts that are available. Issues with the finality of the police investigation does not equate to race as a factor. Cooke was at a hotel with a known prostitute who was later convicted of 2nd degree murder in the death of her boyfriend. The woman that shot Cooke, Franklin a black woman who managed the motel was actually a madam with a criminal record and the motel catered to prostitutes.

#SamCooke had SO MANY HITS in such a short span of time. Not the same genre of music, obviously, but it makes us wonder, MUCH like with #JimiHendrix, how much MORE he WOULD'VE accomplished had he lived longer.

He "bummed" at the Copa? Is he serious? His performance at the Copa led to one of the greatest live soul albums of all time.

Nathan Crofton-Bond he performed at the copa twice once early in his career but slayed them when he returned the second time, which the live recording that you are referring to.

Nathan Crofton-Bond his first performance he bombed it. The second time he found out how to captivate a all white, upscale crowd. Before He was so use to singing church style which mainly catered to African americans before. The best singer of all times to me!

I recently heard his performance with the Soul Stirrers on the now legendary Great 1955 Shrine Concert....the performance there is what you later heard on the Harlem Square Club cd

This segment was recorded in 1964. And taken into the context of Sam Cooke's ultimate fate, he had only months to live. This highlighted video only amplifies the sadness of that terrible fact.😞

So precious! Sam's facial expressions are gorgeous.
AND by goodness he had a high self esteem!!!! Despite any racial battles of the time, Sam knew who he was, and where he was going, and that he had as much right to it as anyone.

I think that all the self confidence that the Cook brothers had{willie, charles jr,Sam,L.C. and david ]came from their father,Reverend Charles Cook. The bios on Sam and his family are fascinating!

00:46 I've always felt that Jimmy Early (Dream girls) was a composite based on events associated with multiple performers: Sam Cooke, James Brown, Jackie Wilson, Wilson Pickett, Little Richard, and Marvin Gaye. Remember the scene where Jimmy "bombs" in the upscale supper club?

I have loved this very handsome and extremely talented man as long as I can remember. I revisited him again in the movie, One Night in Miami. The actor who played Sam was phenomenal. I was quite emotional towards the end. I didn't realize Sam's young son drowned in his pool and it sent Sam into a pretty dark place which is extremely understandable which may have lead to his extremely tragic and untimely death. I can only imagine what a bigger influence he would have been in the music industry if he had lived. He was a genius with a magical voice and looka of a fairytale prince. RIP Sam.
