Croatia is extremely expensive. I was in Greece recently. That was very expensive too.
Croatia is not Eastern Europe. Do your Geo.
to cut the video short...since I am living here entire life...with 3000 euros you can live like a king! salary on average is 1400...so if you have more the better for you.
but even with as low as the 1400 you can live really nice.
P.S. my homeland is not just coast and sea. in fact there are parts which are far more breathtaking and more beautiful than coast and they are cheaper for living
Is that 3000 euros for a couple or a single person? Thank you!

Nomad Capitalist said living in the USA is akin to being in an abusive relationship. Get out of it and go where you’re appreciated. I agree. Great video. Hope you’ll soon cover Albania, Serbia, Montenegro and North Macedonia.
Stay tuned. We are preparing the videos now.
Really like Croatia. Beautiful country. Local cuisine every bit as good as Italy and Greece. Very laid back. Great beaches along the coast and even nicer ones on the islands dotting the coast. High on our list to use as a base for travel in that region of Europe.
If single, don't even think twice.
Beautiful place, wonderful people, tempered weather, delicious food & reasonably priced. (* South of Split)
Great women to warm up to if you chat-up game is dignified and unequivocal.
Have wheels on you as it will come in handy once you finish those night outs at Split.
oh wow, look at that amazing clear water. Looks so beautiful.
I know. Amazing!
I told you Europe is amazing. Soooo many Americans have no clue thinking Spain and Italy is as good as it gets. Eastern Europe is great and still cheap.
True. It is possible to live much more cheaply here than people think, but not everyone is able to adapt local lifestyle. Many will spend more because they want to recreate their old life ina new country instead of learning how locals do things. :-)
Croatia is not that cheap, rather expensive country, especially on the coastline
@@andraskleistenes8586 why live on the coastline? If locals live on 2k euro per month - Croatia is cheap. Croatian healthcare is 10 times cheaper than American healthcare, so Croatia is cheap. It is all relative
One of your best vlogs Dan very informative and you captured the best that Split has to offer in a very interesting way
How do you do it?!? Your videos just keep getting better and better. I hope to be in that part of the world soon. Thanks for all your hard work!
Thank you. I just try to get a little better every day. Learning helps keep my mind fresh too. :-)
Looks great Dan -- this is probably the best of your European locations that you've found so far.
I can see a lot of people considering this place along with something in SE Asia for balance.
Forget Mexico/Latin American and Eastern Europe.
It defintely opened our eyes! :-)
Dan your content is super valuable. The places you highlight are really interesting but I am also around the age you were when you left the USA. I am so feeling the call to do this and am running out of excuses to stay in the U.S. thanks for being a real inspiration.
We've been in Montenegro for the last few months. The Balkans are a wonderful part of the world and should be a strong consideration for people looking for a retirement destination.

A tempting destination. It's hard to believe you'd find many places outside Asia that have those crystal clear waters.
True. Clear water like that is usually closer to the equator.
I had never considered Croatia as a retirement destination, but you've changed my mind!
Absolutely loved Croatia when we visited in 2016. This would be high on our list to retire to one day. We stayed a night in a cabin inside Plitivice, which was absolutely beautiful. We flew into Kings Landing (Dubrovnik) and rented a car to drive up the coast stopping in Split Zadar, Plitivice, and ended in Rijeka before flying back out. The only negative I saw was the microplastic at the Split beach so I hope they cleaned it up.
I would be much ahead of where I am today if I had discovered that I could learn from others. Take lessons from other people's errors. I wholeheartedly concur that we should begin with our current pursuits while looking for other revenue streams. Regarding myself, I had seven figures in my portfolio, no debt, and very little saved for retirement.
Greetings on your accomplishments! Even better, you might rebuild your entire portfolio with the help of a financial counselor and get rid of the bad investments you currently have. For me, this approach has shown to be very successful in lowering anxiety and stress levels while also saving a substantial amount of time.
once you've successfully reached retirement? But what expertise have you got? For your retirement, you should set aside between $3.50 million and $4 million.
an account or plan for personal retirement. Since it sounds exactly like an individual retirement arrangement, I do actually speak with my actuary. Furthermore, i lack of knowledge on the business side of it. See her details for more information.

I can't wait to go shopping after I get paid because the stocks of several restaurants are dropping!
Great video as always. I am fascinated by the value here, for me right now its Bulgaria, getting outside of Sofia, NorthWest, there is a little city called Dragoman. This city sits directly on the Eurovelo route, so you can leave your door on an ebike, travel through beautiful areas, and end up in Vienna. The ability to travel from capital cities is unrivaled for this area. Croatia is most of the Eastern coast of the Adriatic too, the ability to find a beautiful little spot on the water is the highest in the Western world.
I just looked up Dragoman ❤Very beautiful. I’m fascinated with Bulgaria myself.
Very wise person.
@@VagabondAwake You two are goals, enjoy every day in the sun.
Just got back from Croatia, I was expecting low prices, but found eberything is almost as expensive as west europe, so was bummed about that. Beautifull, but most of europe is and the other countries have more common local languages as well.
But did you go to tourist places or small towns?
If money matters for you, I would recommend exploring more local areas and less touristy areas. We found rents and resturants caried greatly based upon whether we were surrounded by tourists or locals.
Split apartment for under 400 euro is uncommon even if a bit further from the center.

I noticed nothing was budgeted for private healthcare, a real concern for retirees. Also personal expenses such as haircuts, pedicures, manicures, clothing, etc. Expenses for the home such as cleaning supplies plants, flowers, and home repairs. And if you have a pet or 2 that’s another costly expense. All of these things really add up. These estimates are almost identical to ours. We’ve been living in Cuenca, Ecuador for the last 11 years and live it. The USA truly is a has-been country.
True. You really have to do an exploratory visit to know what your personal expenses will be. We have been to Cuenca. Nice place. Hi @craiggardner5525, Would you like to be a guest start on one of my videos? Here is an example guest star video: czcams.com/video/ySM_2jAC4v4/video.html

Split is gorgeous, just for those originating from ex-Yugoslavia, they should be careful when they speak the local language not to speak “ekavian” or “ Belgrade” accent, as there are still a lot of nationalism going on. Just change the “ekavian” to “ijekavian” or “ikavian” accent which is spoken in Split, which is very simple, and you will be fine 😊.
We spoke English everywhere and had no troubles. :-)
It's not for the reasons you stated. I live in Split and I know if I hear “ekavian” it would make me feel uncomfortable. Maybe youngers don't care, but I was 10 year old when war started, it's impossible to remove that experience from my memory. The way we react to that lang has noting to do with nationalism, but the past we remember and the fear that it could happen again.
@@Ines-uw5gi Good to hear that the young people don’t care, and treat it as their own local accent. Greetings!

Croartia is amazing! Did you make it to the island of Hvar?
Great question @ChristophFluriHeckenbuecker,
As you have probably heard we almost never buy round-trip tickets. We move forward slowly traveling the world. But some countries require a return ticket or onward flight before they allow entry. But the rules change all the time so don't assume what I am about to tell you is true for any airline or country. You have to check every time. But if they require a return ticket or onward flight, here is what we do. When you try to board your flight going to the country, with a one-way ticket, the airline will ask for proof of a return flight or an onward flight. We handle this in three possible ways. If you can find a refundable ticket a few hours before you board your flight, buy that, and cancel after you clear customs at your destination. If not, buy an onward flight from one of the online companies that offer onward flights. They cost about $12 USD. Just Google the words "Onward Flights" and a few will pop up. Basically they put your name on a flight leaving the country on whatever date you say and they email you a confirmation that you can show to prove you have an onward flight. But if you decide to buy the $12 onward flight, show up at the airport 3 hours early. We had one refused by the airline only once in the last 5 years. So that brings up the third way. When your $12 onward flight is refused, step out of line, and log on with your computer or smartphone and buy the cheapest flight you can find exiting the country. For example, we search online for the cheapest ticket to a nearby country, leaving that country. Then you lose much less money than you would if you bought a roundtrip ticket to your home country. Skyscanner is the best place to find cheap tickets in our experience. Some countries will also let you buy an onward train or bus ticket to another country which can be even cheaper. Use RometoRio.com to find those. Best, Dan
Go where you're treated best

Joining Schengen kind of sucks.
Yes. The last few countries would be smart to not join, by not joining they will get a bunch more money from people that need to live there while their 180 days reset.
Thanks for that. I went thru Eastern Europe years ago but didn’t do a proper “re-con” on Croatia . I been drifting around mainly Asia for 12 years and need a change. That 12 month lease deal looks good for a long stay. Initially I was looking at bouncing between Croatia (Schengen) and Albania…..since I liked the Adriatic coast. Maybe that 12mth deal would work. Cleaner air, cleaner water & cleaner streets than some places in Asia & similar living costs ….sort of.😆 I actually saw you guys in Kuala Lumpur back in March ….at the lake in front of Petronas Towers. Croatia has become a very expensive country nowadays, beacuse Croatia is a very safe country, near to one the richest part of Europe, so the are lots of tourist. Unlike in Western Europe, there are very few illegal immigrants, and tourists like this...
i was in Croatia in 2007 i noticed a lot of old Germans it was quite funny like they took over the entire town .its not really a concern to me but nobody knows what the Balkans will be like in 2040 or 2060 or even 2080 since its it was really bad in the 90s it was great in 2007 and better today .but apparently it was also quite great in 1970 and horrible in 1940 and great in 1920 i guess the video is aimed at an older demographic but still even a 60 year old today will probably live until 2050.
That is one of the reasons I say to never put down roots too deep. Things change and you should be ready to change too. Where you are treated best today may not be the same tomorrow. There is nothing permanent in this life but death itself.
A beautiful place. Qiang in a hat sets off her face. Dan in a hat not so much. Just fun with you.
