Thanks so much watching one of the first TEST DRIVES of the MDX Type S on CZcams! One small correction, we accidentally said it was a 3.0L twin-turbo V-6 when it is actually a TWIN-SCROLL single turbo V-6. We regret the error.
Congrats on being the first!
Great review
How's the 0-60 like plz ?
Awesome! Congrats
Can’t sell the vehicle drop? You definitely can see it in 24:47!!! 🔥 just look at the bottom of the windshield
This is far more impressive than the TLX Type S, though it will be even slower. They actually put some effort into the interior and features, there is real luxury here for a the first time in a long time in an Acura.
I agree. It seems like Acura was trying to make the TLX a 3 and 5 Series competitor, but didn't nail either. This is a different story. It gives up very little to most of the competition. $72K loaded up isn't terrible, considering the Germans will be missing equipment at this price and a Genesis GV80 3.5 Prestige is more expensive.
I have a TLX Type S. I wouldn’t even consider an SUV.
Funny you say that since the TLX Type-S comes with way more standard features than the m340i S4/S5 and C43 for less $
No offense man, but it’s pretty obvious by this comment that you’ve got really no idea what you’re talking about. And that’s okay, but don’t comment when you’re not sure🤦♂️the tlx leads it’s class in standard features and standard safety features. There’s a reason the tlx doesn’t have massage seats and crazy tech like the MDX. Because the tlx is $14k cheaper!😂😂
@@ghamrick8183 show me where they hurt you.
Longtime BMW & Audi owner here, and I’m seriously impressed. I’d have zero issue moving over to Acura for this SUV. Interior is fantastic - finally on par with the Germans, and the twin turbo 6 makes it all make sense. Add to that Acura’s reliability, and it just works.
Twin scroll single turbo
Single Twin scroll turbo
You're right, it's finally on par in many areas. There are some issues with electronics of the car, display freeze I hear. Being a 1st gen, any sort of problem is possible. I personally buy em used 3yrs old or so with full svc records and kinks worked out.
@Adam Ant. I have a deposit on a 2022 X5 M50i. I love that car but am SCARED TO DEATH about its reliability. Did you ever have any issues with yours?
@@brianbgood if your leasing it you’re fine…if buying..that’s another story lol
I never thought much about the MDX or Acura. But this 2022 Acura MDX Type S is one handsome vehicle. I love this color combo the white with the black optic package, love the wheels, and the dual exhaust. But best of all love the red leather interior. Certainly one good looking vehicle.
I think It should have at least 400hp tbh . The engine is capable of it .
I miss one of the few but important things that seperate you guys from the other car reviewers, and that is when you guys show pictures of the other trims interior and exterior to compare. Hopefully you guys will bring that segment back 🤞
Oh when do they do that? I’ve never seen it.
@@2004cyrus In their old reviews, I think that helps a lot of people that are watching their channel when they're in the market for a new vehicle. Because at least that way they will see what are differences of every trim models inside and out, and not just the differences on the numbers.
@@JohnyCray oh okay I see. I’m the type that goes to the dealer and looks in person. But their illustrations surely help people that don’t want to walk on the dealer lots. That’s if many people watching these videos are actually in the market for a new car. I suppose some like me just watch for entertainment. I leased a new Mazda CX-5 in June. So I like learning about cars like this MDX Type-S now.
Most reviews nowadays is on top trim models. You barely see base model reviews
@@TheMolina297 And that is why I think people will appreciate that specific segment. Because not everyone can afford the top trim and sometimes even the middle trim models. But if they see that they like the interior or exterior more on the higher trims that they're planning to get, they might decide to throw a few more $$ to upgrade. Or they also might think the lower trims is enough even base on the pics. here that they will see. Idk, just my opinion I guess.
Thank you for the in-depth review. I’m excited to get mine in three-four weeks here in Canada. It will be one of the first deliveries. Great job Acura. Happy to be coming back to the brand. Use to have two Intergra GS-R and 2004 TSX 6-speed. Acura getting back to their original roots of sport plus luxury.
Don't mind asking whereabouts in Canada? I am hoping to get mine early March as well.
best looking mdx ever by far. great review guys, thanks.
Thank you! 😁
27:00 that’s this segment on a whole. The entire competition have muffled exhausts, the MDX Type S is no exception here, the target market for this don’t necessarily want a loud exhaust.
they should left the EXHAUST! ACURA F*CKED UP by not even having that.... sucks....
@@KuyaArbee so every other competitor messed up as well? You have to understand this segment is more family oriented and these vehicles are more suited for luxury rather than outright sport, non of the competitors have a loud exhaust so it’s understandable why the MDX Type S doesn’t. The TLX Type S segment is totally different and a loud enough, good sounding exhaust is a requirement in that segment hence why the TLX sounds the way it does.
@@drivescene6747 then why make a high performance model if it’s not even remotely high performance? I don’t know why most Asian car companies are holding back on their engine and drivetrains for their performance cars compared to competitors, but it’s dissapointing
@@itsweetened the MDX Type S is not a high performance model, it’s a mid tier performance MDX that competes with mid tier performance competitors except for the X5 that has the most powerful base engine in this class and goes toe to toe with the mid tier performance vehicles from everyone else, which are : Q7 55 (335hp), GLE450 AMG (362hp, GV80 3.5t (375hp), and the Lincoln Aviator (400-494hp). None of these vehicles has a loud exhaust and are just luxury SUVs with a bit more power than the base offerings.
This demographic likes to wear a white Titleist Golf Hat sipping a Starbucks Venti Dark Roast with Foam and two shots of vanilla.
first: THANK YOU for doing a full review on the MDX type S as we all been going crazy for one. Took this out for a test drive and gotta say, was VERY impressed with everything.. it's a hell of a fun driving experience. For an SUV.. that thing moves man lol. they really did nerf the exhaust sound drastically compared to the TLX type S but then again.. it's an SUV aimed for those with a family but also want that "Sporty Feeling" while driving ( it's also something that can be easily fixed too).
Not really understanding why so many people are nit picking things when you're getting so much for less than the price of a fully loaded BMW or Audi.
And to those who are complaining about it's speed and 0-60 times... it's fast enough for what it is and especially as a daily drive...
btw the ELS Studio speakers is a freaking force! crank it up all the way and it's a party lol.
BTW: Should have showed everyone a quick look when it's lifted. it looks REALLY GOOD! very nice height and stance.
Agree with everything you said but you obviously never driven or owned a German vehicle. You definitely pay more but there is also a reason why. In the end it's choice driven
@@04tsxpower it’s all personal preference. And yes I never took a German on the road but did ride in a few. Tbh I was VERY interested with Audi’s SQ8.. gorgeous looking ride but with some more researching and talking around, i found this one to be the perfect fit for the price.
Also a good friend of mines warned me about future maintenance headaches with German vehicle’s…
@Elijah Smith exactly what I said it's all choice. Acura having enough power to SQ8? Wow huge difference
@@04tsxpower I didn’t compare Acura to the SQ8… I said I was interested in it at one point.. if I was to go the German route. never did I put them in the same category so I’m not sure where you are getting with that.
@@elijahsmith8515 never mind....I know you didn't
It has a very nice deep rumble to it - sounds like the engine in the Navigator. Pleasing for the V8 lovers who won’t be able to get a V8 in the near future. This the best alternative.
The red interior is ok. But the blue interior is different and with the tiger eye color makes it very different and luxurious.
I wish Acura had designed the discontinued Acura RLX with this kind of luxury, power and performance, the RLX could have been one of the bestsellers. Acura needs to run with the elites, not behind them.
you are the first channel to test drive this car. cooll job
Thanks! We hope you'll subscribe 👍
Awesome video of the Acura MDX Type-S!!! Great job guys!!!
This is definitely a more attractive package than the TLX. Thanks guys for the review.
Am I the only one that could not unsee that awkward hood/grill opening?
You guys outdid yourselves on this one! What a fantastic combo of power & tech, all wrapped inside of a beautiful design esthetic (red interior is breathtaking!). Really enjoy your reviews - but I bet this car was tough to take back to the dealer! Thanks for doing this review - really enjoyed it!
Thanks, man! Yeah this was a fun one to film!
Good evening gentlemen. Once again good walk around, review and drive video for the 2022 Acura MDX Type S. Like what was mentioned in the video Acura included few firsts with this performance level MDX Type S. First SUV in their lineup to get the Type S badge, first SUV in this trim to have massaging seats, first SUV in this trim to have the adjustable dynamic air suspension system and first SUV in this trim to have the price points a pinch over $73,000. Before I go any further I would like to point out the bloopers in this video. At the 13:27 to 13:30 time marks Drew was trying to say Acura's true TouchPad controller (Drew said ah and then ahhhhhhhhh, lol) and at the 19:00 time mark when Mason was entering the third row the recorder slips out of his pocket. With performance numbers coming in at 355 horsepower and 354 pound feet of torque, those numbers are pretty good. Those performance numbers makes it compete well with the Audi Q7 Turbo V6 which produces 335 horsepower and 369 pound feet of torque. Two other vehicles to mention for competing with the Acura MDX Type S would be the Genesis GV80 which has performance numbers coming in at 375 horsepower along with 391 pound feet of torque and the Jeep Grand Cherokee L with the V8 engine coming in at 357 horsepower along with 390 pound feet of torque. It would be nice if all four of these vehicles compete against each other in a drag race.
Also Lincoln Aviator with 400hp and 410ft lbs torque.
I love nearly everything about the interior except the huge usage of piano black plastic around the center console.
Agreed, looks super cheap, does not belong in a luxury car at this price point.
The MDX Type S performs a lot better than the sum of its numbers. I wouldn't call it a 'high performance' ( AMG, M, etc) SUV, but it is definitely a performance SUV, with the added bonus of a lot of luxury in the advance trim. I would guess based off having driven the X5 and this, the MDX is just slightly slower all around. Handling is similar, but the feature content is greater here.
It's not inexpensive but when you consider the features that come in the higher trim, it's a viable option to everything in the segment for a little bit less money.
Also I'm willing to bet they dialed down the external exhaust sound because of concerns about reverberations in the cabin. It's something that's less of an issue in a Sedan..
l think its beautiful MDX ' l would love to see this model in black with the red interior or red with black and red interior
I love the 2022 Acura MDX type S it’s really cool, I love the red Interior! I love the bloopers lol 😂
Thank you for showcasing the different 2 tone options for inside cabin….very helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
Good job boys, first review out there. By the way well done as always and you smoked everyone 👊👍👌
Really great, thorough review. I'm really liking this car and am somewhat regretting getting my X5 xdrive50i, based on price and features. Hopefully this car will help get Acura back into the limelight which they lost a little bit and the TLX Type-S what somewhat of a misstep due to its weight and/or tight interior space.
Your X5 is nicer than this unless you ran it into a wall. Outside of the 2nd and 3rd row space, the 40i and 50i version only trail the Acura in affordability and base leather quality.
@@221ddj the Acura will be more reliable and cheaper to maintain than the BMW. Acura seats are more supple than the X5 (seats feel like a rock)
@@88hemoglobin Yeah, I agree with both of those statements, however, if I'm spending $75K on an SUV, I'd take the X5 over the MDX type S every time. I simply wouldn't buy the regular V6 version of the Acura after test driving it. It feels bloated and very much like a minivan alternative.
Wow, this 22 Acura MDX type S is a ultimate high porformance twin turbo V6 crossover SUV on the block, Awesome review ever guys, Keep up the great content, And take care.♥️
I'll say it one more time. MDX type-S is less powerful that the base (the least powerful) BMW X5 sold in US and the motor in MDX is not a twin-turbo motor. For ultimate performance one has to get a German car.
@@SBM200612 buddy what are you smoking. Base x5 weighs 4800lbs with 335hp and 330lb of torque in comparison a base mdx type s weighs 4500lbs with 355hp and 354 lb of torque.
It ain’t faster it’s simple math. Now if we talking about the hybrid x5 then yea it’s a different beast.
Thanks!
@@SBM200612 Who cares? if you want speed and performance then by all means upgrade to an M series and go to the track on the daily. why come here and complain about "Speed" as if it's the only thing to focus on VS the overall vehicle experience. let's not forget that the X5 is a 5 seat vehicle whereas the MDX type S is a 7 out of the factory... you have to ADD those back row seats as and option on the BMW and they SUCK. and upgrading the trim to the M series the third row option is not even available.
Because of that reason, the X7 would be a much better comparison, and if you want so much "Speed and performance" be ready to spend 100K plus.
@@tojvan The numbers don't tell the truth. On paper type-S should be faster than X5 40i, but in the real world it will not. Let's wait till we have some comparison tests, though. MDX type-S is still very new.
It also looks like BMW misrepresents the horse power of it's cars. Check out this link for example.
czcams.com/video/ZYX6FFlgubw/video.html
BTW, I do like Acuras. We currently have 2018 RDX in our garage and in 2-3 years, when it will be time to replace it, MDX (base or type-S) will be one of the candidates.
I am just annoyed by Acura presenting type-S as a super powerful machine that it is not. The most powerful Acura SUV - makes you think X5 M power or something in that range and then you find out that no, MDX type-S is closer to base line X5.
Disappointing.
That red interior is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I think a comparison of this vehicle. And the Explorer ST would be awesome!!
I wish it had a touchscreen
MDX Type S is just the perfect balance that you can find in the mid size suv market and it beats everything in its price range!!
I wouldn’t say anything. An X5 would beat this for a lower price, not to mention a GV80. And the exhaust note on this “type s” is disappointing.
@@bradleyscarreviews X5 doesn’t seat 7… the back 2 seats in the 7 seater version x5 are a joke.
@@Gabru_S well, I’d go for a Q7.
@@bradleyscarreviews good for you. But the mdx still better value than anything else right now.

Acura really needed that turbo v6 to come out 5 years earlier
I really like the Type S version of the MDX. Great review; you guys covered alot of detail.
Thank you!
Now they need to fix the infotainment system
That red interior is amazing.
Incredible SUV! Beautiful and powerful. No smile meter?
I've been looking forward to this!
Hey guys. Thanks for another great in depth review. One thing I've noticed when watching on my TV are creaking and bumping noises during Drew's interior segment. Maybe you could use a separate mic not on the camera? Anyway, keep up the great work.
Can't wait to see the RDX type s
That digital dash is what the tlx type s needs
All though it doesn’t sound great outside the car, inside the car sounds really impressive!
Amazing, thank you for being the 1st to do an in depth review!
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching!
That price is RIDICULOUS
Love this but I wish the exhaust sounded like the TLX-S. My God give me a MDX Hybrid instead. Thanks the review guys! Keep at it
Ya my mdx hybrid does sound much better than the regular v6
Awesome SUV

Open that sunroof halfway and go on a sloped entrance at an angle to see if the body flexes.
Acura definitely put more thought into this than the TLX Type S.
Nah, same amount of thought.

i wish acura get the touch screen thats would be perfect
Nice touch and i think all the MDX should look like this and they could have made the MDX TYPE S with a 400-430 HP and 400 LB ft of torque. They should also add a Shift Level for the Type S cause then push buttons don’t flow well with a Type S model.
I wish for more power as well. Since they benchmarked the Germans and Acura doesn't do V8s, hitting right in the middle would've been awesome. Maybe this powertrain with a hybrid setup, which would've improved fuel economy as well(17/21 is pretty dismal for something of this size and with only 355hp, when something like a Ford Expedition weighing 1000lbs more and 25% larger gets 17/23).
450hp would've been NICE!
Honda is being too safe with this engine. The boost is way too low, clearly designed for longevity over performance. 400hp out of this shouldn't be a problem if Ford can do it with their 3.0L V6.

Seeing that last gen gray TL behind it was a little eye opening. Honda/Acura hasn’t really took a crazy leap since then. That TL is possibly a 2014 or 2015, and looks like they were designed around the same time.
Well done guys! 👍🏼
Thank you, I'm definitely looking to trade-in my 2018 Type-R for this Type-S, but it seems there are none available 😳
Also I seen a lot of the mdx with the red interior especially the regular A-spec model. That why I go with the blue interior and tiger color
this looks so nice what the heck
Beautiful vehicle.
Still has that famous Acura engine v-6 low end growl when you gas it.
As an owner of an Explorer ST I really can't see how I can justify spending the extra $6-$13k more for the MDX. I have 90% of all the features, really just air ride is missing, but I get more HP and Torque. Was really hoping the Type S could be had for closer to $65k and I would make the upgrade. The better interior would be nice, but the Explorer ST is functional.
Ford will give you more problems than the Acura
Funny because I had a buddy who wanted the Explorer ST and after comparing it to the MDX FWD version he wasn't as impressed....
@cagilber Was thinking EXACTLY the same...the ST is by far a better value proposition...more HP, sportier and has almost all of the 'luxuries' for cheap...yeah build quality could be better but not so bad to justify the big extra for the Type S...
I would get the Explorer ST kissing cousin, the Lincoln Aviator, with the same 400hp and 410ft (or 415ft) pounds of torque. In the Reserve and Black label trims, would get ventilated second row seats, and 3rd row air vents. Something that Acura is missing at $73,000+. I know the Lincoln does cost a little more, in Reserve with upgraded packages, and in Black Label. MDX does have usb ports in the 3rd row, something the Explorer and Aviator is missing, lol. (I know that isn't a biggie). Acura (Honda) just has the better reputation for reliability.
I think the Qx60 is roomier inside also and better interior
LEXUS has TOUCH SCREEN info systems now.
C’mon ACURA! 🤞🏼
As a Honda enthusiast who lives over seas I’m so puzzled by Acura and their line up. We had the MDX sold where I live back in 2001-2006 or so but badged as a Honda. I wish they’d do that again and just bring the entire Acura range to the international market. All they sell brand new here in Australia are boring, auto only civics and CRV’s these days. Oh and the Accord but we don’t even get the 2L turbo and I’m guessing they don’t sell because I’ve only ever seen one on the road.
Wow, look at all the gloss black plastic in that interior.
It makes it look cheap in my opinion that should have been wood or aluminum.
@@OM_42 with typical acura design, it should have been aluminum. or maybe faux carbon-fiber style if they wanted to change things up.
Beautiful love it well done Acura
As a multiple MDX owner everything looks excellent but when you compare it to any other brand there still 5 years behind and the power is extremely lacking even if it is so good for honda/acura it suffers from the same as cars of the brand no power. I mean an 07 mdx has 300hp ffs how can a 22 type S have only 355... really thats dog shit

Acura of Peoria AZ won’t even bother to speak to you when you show up on time to your appointment or bother to even wash the mdx type s. Not bad for a 74k vehicle that doesn’t even have 400hp

I noticed the 289 mile range on a nearly full tank. Rules it out for crossing mountain ranges.
I like the exhaust sound as it is.
I love everything about this SUV EXCEPT the fake exhaust sound coming from the speaker and the ACTUAL exhaust sound on the outside is so quiet. I see some room for aftermarket exhaust on this to make it sound better. Can you turn the fake speaker exhaust sound off?
I think you can turn it off. Notice how much quieter it got when they switched to Comfort mode. I believe it has an individual mode to which would allow the right combination for quiet and handling. I will check that out when I test drive it in the next week. I don't like the noise anyway especially if it is fake.
