Acura is back. I decided to go for this over the Lexus RX. Just ordered a Type S and I have no regrets. The Lexus was nice but the exterior styling and interior quality of the Acura was superior in my opinion which won me over.
I just picked up my Type S, and I love it. I agree, Acura is really putting out some much better products lately.
How? It's suppose to be a Type S and its nothing more than a A spec with better brakes. Way too conservative and the europeans have nothing to be worried about
@@v60polestar88 Lexus has something to be worried about though. Acuras fine. Genesis is better by a bit but Acura is still way ahead of lexus
The exterior design of this SUV is my favorite in this category. Thank you, Acura, for keeping the fog lights separate and low in the bumper! Well done!
Great review as usual and I am happy Rob is not being camera shy anymore. The thing here is that $73k can be quite scary for an Acura but in all fairness to them everyone else is up the roof these days.
Consistently great reviews, zero clickbait. I enjoy your content, Redline.
Shoutout to the videographer! You guys make a great team! Another awesome review 👏🏾
Thanks SO much for the review - We just got delivery of our MDX Tech and lived on your review for the last many months - Thanks SO much for your videos!
I love the MDX…bought one last week. A Spec….very luxurious interior. Top notch materials
Wow! I've been seeing this car around town. I see it, and say, "That's a very nice looking SUV." Then I find out it's an Acura. This review shows me that it has all the features (including the Panoramic Sun Roof) that I've been looking for. I can't afford the higher price range, but sounds like I can hit a middle price point and get everything I'd like. Way Cool!
Absolutely stunning SUV! The one thing that I'm disappointed on is the power delivery. If Acura wants to have a performance SUV that's competitive it will need to bump its power up closer to 400 horsepower.
Dont think its supposed to be. Its priced directly with the X5 40i which both have similiar power. More of a luxury suv with some power.
@@georgehugeabutt9947 I would just like to see Acura have more power for it's top tier performing SUV. The BMW X5 40i isn't BMW'S fastest SUV, but this is supposed to be Acuras fastest full size SUV... What I'm getting at is Acura has different levels of price and performance like anybody else, I don't think people will mind paying that premium for a competitive performance SUV.
@@Matt369oi they r still playing the value card. Not surprised given most of their buyers r attuned to that value perspective
@@challenge1022 Agreed! Acura has the value card and reliability card. What I'm wondering is, are most people leasing or buying a brand new Acura, because of course as I'm sure you know, if they're leasing, reliability kinda goes out the window.
Oh sure, 400 hp for a SUV is so necessary. Why not 500 hp? Why not a rocket ship for a motor? SMH
Finally its interior looks as a legit luxury car. I always thought like 'wow, Acura's getting old and dated'. Acura these days looks way better than its 2010s' models and it's becoming competitive in its segment.
Acura,Type S,MASSAGE SEATS,AIR SUSPENSION!! I THOUGHT I NEVER SEE THE DAY THAT ACURA WOULD HAVE AIR SUSPENSION.Man there really stepping it up. Great review as always.
@@CarnutMM yea.. but it will still be cheaper than replacing those same items on a Mercedes, bmw,or audi.
I agree. The MDX type s needed 400hp +. Also the exhaust should be a little louder. Nsx style wheels would have looked great. Less gloss black in the interior would help.
Such a great car, but poor timing with skyrocketing gas prices
Gas prices dip and surge, they're already a sunk cost. Just get the car that suits your want and need
Acura is finally moving away from being “value brand” of luxury. And yes obviously it’s still has a way to go if it wants to be in the same league as BMW,Audi, and Mercedes. But at least now their cars don’t look or feel as fancier hondas
Yeah bmw hardly touches their interiors and there not the best interiors to begin with
I liked them being a value brand because buying it used was cheaper than other luxury cars and the maintenance was cheaper now all that is out the window lol
@@chevyss934 BMW Digital display is pretty pedestrian, especially when compared with Audi, Merc, Genesis and now the Acura. I was honestly expecting more gaudiness as it's a BMW; they're supposed to be the hooligan of the Germans.
That exhaust is way too muted! They should have given it the TLX sound. Even the X5 sounds pretty good in M-sport trim.
Always enjoy the way you review a vehicle ☺️ keep up the fantastic work 😆👍🏾 love the blue 💙
I can’t get over how beautiful the blue color is. I will 100% sure replace my RDX with this blue.
275 inch wheels?! When are companies gonna stop increasing wheel sizes? Haha love the videos always!
Good work. Have to get the Acura Type S Combo sedan and SUV 💯😍
Finally been waiting for this review. Everyone uploaded today! :)
The 17-20 MDX Sport Hybrid had very sporty powertrain before the Type-S with 321hp/289tq, 7DCT, regen braking, true torque vectoring, larger front brakes, electronic dampers, and Sport+ mode. It also got 24-28 mpgs in city/hwy/combined.
Yeah, you post that on every single thread... But that generation is fugly.
@@ohrandyrandy may be fugly to you; but, one sweet ride to others. I also love my 18 RLX Sport Hybrid for the same reasons. To each their own.
Amazing with the way he zoomed into the grille and back out👍
I love Honda / Acura products and am thrilled that they finally have an MDX that a car fanatic would consider buying…. Lot’s of value at 73K…. Now if only they would create a luxury off roader to compete with the Lexus LX, GX….
I always love your car reviews non judgmental and non bias thank you
I love the intro music and the intro itself.
Acura hit it out if the park with this new MDX😍 the only dealbreaker is the mouse pad.
The deal breaker for me is no ventilation on the 3rd row. Not sure why they they cant get this right! It has a third row for a reason... In the summer, my kids in the back are hot and the kids sitting in second row are cold. Same problem in the winter.... for 80k , should be a no brainer... the dealership always tries to swoon me into getting another one...nah!
I am 6’4” and found the new MDX a bit tight for me but it appears to be a very nice vehicle.
best looking 7 seater on the market period.
Love this. Am I the only one who found the zooming in and out a bit much?
A perfect review and beautiful location ,thank you
I use to look at those power figures and zero to sixty times now I'm just looking at those MPG figures lol
Acura has stepped it up with Luxury. I love that parchment interior and also the blue. This gives BMW a worthy competitor.
Just got a 2023 MDX Tech fathom blue Tech. Very happy with this product
Great review sofyan as always, the zoom in and zoom out is kinda messing with me tho lol
1) The MDX has been America’s best selling 3-row luxury suv. It gets the job done, has spacious cargo/cabin room, is decently fuel-efficient, and has a great resale price after 5 years. This car’s audience is diverse with both younger and older folks with kids.
2) The “luxury feel” is honestly subjective so it depends on the person’s preference. From most car reviewers on CZcams who test drove it, this MDX drives like a big sedan despite its size. The infotainment system isn’t for everyone but you’ll get used to it. Also, you could simply go on Amazon and shop for exterior and interior designs to style up your car. This includes relatively cheaper all-weather mats.
3) The size and wheels of this car could handle bad weather pretty well. It gets you to points A and B, should be able to run well above 100k miles, provides many amenities as standard even in lower trims, and is more affordable than its competitors in this segment.
I agree. I test drove the base MDX and I actually liked its handling and ride MUCH better than the X5 40i with M Package I tested. It felt incredibly stable, although the engine noise and overall feeling of refinement wasn't on the same level as the BMW. I cannot wait to test a Type-S.
@@senorgato70 I like how you test drove both to give a fair comparison. People are fixated on numbers and specs but the best deciding factor of buying a car is how enjoyable the drive is followed by what you will use it for.
Liked the conclusion scene behind those cables 😹😹
Great review! There are so many good choices out there now. I think I have it narrowed down to this or the GV80 Prestige, thoughts on the head to head? They are the same price but I do like the air suspension, remote start, and ELS Stereo of the MDX.
MDX is the way to go. I'm on my 3rd Acura and recently placed an order for an MDX. It's a way better option. Along with the current Hyundais and Kias burning up. I don't think you'd want to side with the Korean OEMs rn
Not enough HP increase over the N/A option to justify the price difference and 20% reduction in highway MPG
First and foremost, excellent review on this MDX. I am a proud owner of a second gen MDX. And I got to say, actor has really done an amazing job with not only building a performance model for their SUV segment, but also have the most modern luxury today.
One thing I will say in defense of Acura, as a technician for another manufacturer it is preferred not to have a touch screen on the display. I have seen too many problems come out of these 12 to 14 in display units.
Always bringing value man..keep it up. 👌🏻
I was just at the dealer today & this same color was there & let me tell ya this is one good looking SUV, now I do think the wheels could be a little better, but for me it doesn't matter because I would do aftermarket wheels anyway like I've done on my 21 TLX type s, & man would I love an air suspension on mine
Wow excellent automobile and review. Thanks!
Great review...not sure I will pick this over my Explorer ST though. Have all the basic luxuries needed and sportier....
Just got a new 2023 Red Type S, so far very happy with it.
Thanks for the review. I just got my MDX Advance (non type s) for over a month now and I wish I got this Type S instead.
Also, Acura shows on the digital display instrument panel that the MDX's rear lights up when brake is pressed but in reality not the full length of rear lights light up.... only the outer lights. It would be cooler if the full length of chicane brake lights works just like the what the instrument panel shows. Most luxury SUVs work this way.
You should start adding a small clip when you start explaining the ambient lighting so we could see how it looks at night.
We didn’t get a chance to film it at night. When we get one for the week to test we’ll show the interior ambient light more closely.
Are you worried at all about a Z4/Supra situation, where the 2020 model came out with 335hp, then the 2021 was revised to have 382hp. Will Acura realize they've made a mistake with this motor and come out with an improved output for 2023? If so, will that significantly devalue the 2022 models?
The exterior looks great the motor is the best with 3.0l V6 turbo
Great job on your review it's a beautiful SUV with little more power like 400 horses would be nice.
I really wish they would have just given it a touchscreen. After dealing with Mazda's janky mess, I'll never use a non touchscreen system ever again. And do they think it has enough piano black?
I totally agree. Doesn’t matter how intuitive the touch pad is, give us a damn touch screen. And the touch pad doesn’t work nicely with apple CarPlay
Very interested to see how the turbo V6 and air suspension fares over time. On paper, this is a winner IMO.
They've done Turbo engines before (I believe the last iteration was an inline 4, not a v6), so I'm not too concerned about that. The air suspension though...Just not a fan of the bags.
23:42: in fact, MDX Type S is actually a little faster than GV80 with 3.5T. You can watch the Drag Race in SamCarLegion channel.
beautiful car/suv but i think calling it high performance is a big stretch. 355hp is pretty lame for such a huge SUV. I wish Acura also gave it 400+hp then it would make a little more sense.
Yea. It's not even really in competition with it's competitors with those numbers
Great looking vehicle, wish it was built on a rwd platform like the gv80 and the German automakers
yeah but then it would of been 10k more. The GV80 fully equipped is 10-12k more. Really Doesnt matter since their awd system is rwd bias now its 60 rwd , 40 fwd . Audi Q7 also does this.
@@georgehugeabutt9947 doubt it gona be 10k more. They could scratch the sh-awd and put a simple sport differential at the back
@@georgehugeabutt9947 the GV80 fully loaded is $70k, the MDX Type S is $73k fully loaded
The Apex Blue Pearl with the Light Orchid is the perfect color combination just like the white or silver exterior & red leather interior color combo, & the Tiger Eye Pearl with the Light Orchid interior
You CAN view GPS info on the dash. Use the right scroll knob to select the navigation info. If not using navigation, it displays the compass.
The Type S looks nice on camera, but so much better in person! We love the 2022 redesign and the Type S just adds to the wow factor. Unfortunately I wasn't able to drive it back to back with the NA 3.5L so can't tell if the 3.0 V6T is worth the premium. In my opinion, the Base Type S should come with some of the features exclusive on the advance trim, such as: roof rails, heated steering wheel / rear seats because these features are found in the advance trim MDX already, while the base Type S is already $4800 more.
Hello Mr.Limit, Please help me with some money to pay my rent. Don’t know if you going to see this, but incase you do please help me

Does this new engine have a chain instead of a belt like the NSX does?
Anyone know that exact spot where the Acura is parked at? Is it a hiking trail
I wish I could get a base model with just the type s engine for a 5k upgrade. That'd be sick.
Great Review ! I drive a 2019 RDX Aspec and looks like it would be a nice upgrade !
Stop zooming in. Also why the camera so shaky? Might have to go back to the old mount.
As much as you guys do a good job of the exterior shots etc., the zooming while filming was a bit rough to watch, did you switch up the camera equipment?
The new MDX is by far the best looking fwd based Luxury crossover out there even the base models. They really nailed it with the proportions and the lines. Even the new TLX.
@@kristians2704 but the MDX still obliterates the 2023 Lexus RX in every way possible to man
Acura is the only luxury brand that’s trying hard and it really shows. It shows that Acura can directly compete with genesis
Can't believe you were close to me and didn't call me for a collaboration video!
Great review as always, very thorough and helpful. Feels like a bit of a shame that 5.5Sec is the best they can do with the boost. I thought the previous Gen could hit 6 on its own.
Previous gen Sport hybrid can go 0 to 60 in 5.9 seconds, which is just .4 second slower.
Anything under 6 is good for a 3 row SUV. It's the handling and driving dynamics which sets this apart with adaptive dampers and adjustable air suspension (massaging seats are nice too).
Crazy how much 0-60 plays in the minds of car buyers. Vs how the car feels. It’s like we are all buying cars to drag race every day.
Acura fan loved your review...but jeez man the price! Love my 2013 ZDX and 2008 TL Type-S and want to go back to owning a MDX after getting rid my 2008 MDX but jeez man the price. I don't think I would be satisfied with the standard MDX. Hmm, is it really worth the price especially being the first year out?
Could you tell me the name and where I can get that device you have on the windshield that records the 0-60 times. Thanks. The Fiesta Flash 🤙🏼🍺🍺
Wow. I am so happy for Acura
Correct me if I am wrong, but this appears to only be about 1/4 second quicker 0-60 than your first run in your RDX A Spec Advance, and on the second run, again, only 1/4 second quicker than the 2nd run in your RDX, correct? I understand the vehicle disparity, but to me it was a cash disparity for such minimal performance increase, as I do not need 3 rows. I have measured by RDX at 0-60 in 6.45 seconds (not removing the 1ft rollout, which I presume you do?) going ever so slightly up hill.
Anyone think the AWD Tech pkg should include the around view camera standard?
I like my Acura RDX but I can’t help having a wandering eye. The mpg sucks and I don’t really love the spongey brake 😕 I would consider the Lexus NX but the backseat isn’t as roomy. Any suggestions/recommendations?
Trust me you don’t want the nx 😂. The Rdx is such a better car than the dressed up rav4
@@sergys8282 but there’s the question of build quality. Now I would hope that’s vastly better

The steering wheel is gorgeous. I’m something I would love to grab r Rey day.
If they added a small electric motor with that turbo charged V6, I would be much faster!
It needs the same setup as the MDX Hybrid. I hope they come out with a Sport Hybrid version in the future
@@bbbt8090 EXACLTY with a little electric motor, it could be possible to have at least 400hp.

You two should do a another channel along the line of Throttle House. Your friend looks like he wants to get in on the game.
Classy and handsome suv ! Great , professional review as always. Like Acura brand better than Genesis for resell value. MPGs for 2022 no bueno.
The 3rd row is the reason I will choose this one over the Genesis GV series. I can’t wait to test drive it!
Acura always made a great automobile to me 👍🏿🚗
I think it looks stunning I just wish it had a little more power
More power would burn to much fuel. The gas mileage on this SUV is already bad and it uses premium gas which makes it worst.
@Thomas Boyd, actually, more power doesn’t always mean worse fuel economy. Manufactures tend to mute & tame their luxury drive trains by way of constricted, less-than-optimal breathing intake-exhaust systems, and by detuning the engine. There’s no question Honda can turn this into a 450 hp screamer if they wanted…but they wisely didn’t. More fuel economy & power will have to come from aftermarket components & tuning.
@@Snookynibbles My brain hurts trying to process all that information. But anyways. Acura is focused on long term reliability. It's not just about performance.
Agree, sequential signal lights - front & rear as well as hide rear wiper above ... MDX is nice, but for me, not in same league as others in this class segment ... Slainte' ! Cheers !
400 HP is what it needs Acura!
17 MPG premium gas in 2022 and $80K , good job Acura , you nail it 😅

Great review, Sofyan. I like this Type-S, possibly best in class to me. What I love about Acura, which so many people don't understand is that they're not about being basically a clone of the Germans. Acura chooses to forge its own identity, also proven with the TLX/TLX Type-S. Then again, this has always been the MO for Honda/Acura, which is probably why they have such an aggressively loyal following (though they are still lacking a bit on really delivering what the rabid fans want). Kudos to Acura with this car. Kudos to your passenger for looking so good in that seat LOL.

I’m torn in between the Acura MDX Type S or the Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve (2 row). I prefer the Jeep’s exterior design, and Acura’s interior design. However I wish Acura would’ve added more extended stitched leather and an alcantara headliner, because the Jeep actually feels more expensive inside. I also prefer the Jeep’s tech vs the Acura’s. The Acura is more sporty to drive, but I respect the fact that the Jeep is a true off roader. This is such a tough decision…can someone help 😂??

Acura’s first performance SUV may not be a BMW X5 M or even an Audi SQ7 competitor, but it’s $66,700 base price means it’s priced in line with the GV80 3.5T, X5 xDrive40i, GLE450, and Q7 55 TFSI, although it has way more equipment as standard. We also find the standard air suspension to work a lot faster than the optional units of European rivals and the 9-way massaging seats work better than the driver only massage on the Genesis. While we do wish Acura had given this gorgeous SUV at least 400 HP or an electrified option, we were content with the 5.5 second first 0-60 run.
