    What we should be comparing is area equivalent to each country.... if you compare buying food in accra then compare same in lagos.... cos food and house prices in Kumasi are cheaper than accra.... Tamale is also cheaper than Kumasi... I see Nigerians compare another state cost of living to accra... that's very deceptive..

    I don't think you really know economics! There is a difference between redenomination and devaluation. Redenomination doesn't change the intrinsic value of a currency. The Italian lira was about 40,000 to a dollar before it was redenominated into euro. Redenomination is for convenience and ease of transaction. Devaluation as the suggests is a change in the value of a currency. What Ghana did was the same as the lira. If redenomination is easy every country will do it.

    It's not that simple removing the zeros. The economy has to be stable and doing well before you can do that else the zeros will come back within a short time. When ghana did that in 2007, $1 was equivalent to Ghc1, but today it is about 14ghc because of the ailing economy. So, its just not about removing the zeros, it is about putting measures in place to stabilize the economy. first.

    For example, no Ghanaian public sector worker is paid in several hundreds of thousands or even in millions as pertains in Nigeria. Some are paid in JUST hundreds of cedis or a few thousands. Everything is comparatively CHEAPER in Nigeria.

      @@JonGreeny Do you know the minimum wage in Nigeria in relation to that of Ghana? I have experienced both countries & also experienced Ghana before & after the re-denomination so I know what I'm talking about. Average working class Nigerians are paid in hundreds of thousands & even millions at times whereas the average Ghanaian public sector worker earns an average of 25,00-5,000. In fact, some people are paid in hundreds of cedis (less than 1,000). Therefore, on what basis are we doing the comparison? Yes, our Cedi is stronger in principle (because it's been given a cosmetic facelift through the removal of 4zeros). However, a Nigerian teacher for example, living in Nigeria & being paid the naira equivalent of a Ghanaian teacher's salary, will be FAR BETTER economically than the Ghanaian. AM I RIGHT or WRONG? Comparatively, ours is a 'worthless Strong Currency'. Thanks for your understanding.

      U guys are so funny o , well u lack economic and banking sense . Wats the value of the cedis in Ghana , how much does an average Ghanaian earns , what's the living standard of an average Ghanaian , wat can an average Ghanaian achieve, all these as compared to an average Nigerian making a living in Nigeria and u will understand better.
      The dollar is also high and still of good value in America, an average American can afford a very decent life style. But this can't be said of an average Ghanaian.
      The removal of 3 zeros from the Ghanaian currency didn't necessarily improve the value of cedis in Ghana, it's just like wearing a heavy makeup just to look good outside while in actual sense u still very ugly .

    Before we were able to remove those zeroes from the cedi, the cedi was equivalent to the dollar. That means 1 cedi was equal to 1 dollar but in your case it's different. I don't know why you think you can just wakeup oneday and starts removing zeroes from your currency all because it's weak. You cannot tell me you know more than your economic team so,if it looks as easy as it is why are they not doing it??

      Yes Ghanaian traders are taking advantage of your weak currency. With their Ghanaian cedis they can buy more at cheap rate and sell in Ghana, getting huge profits. If GHC1000 is about N130,000 in Nigeria. And the latter seems a lot in Naija, imagine how much 1 can buy with the former.

    • @enockboadu6113
      @enockboadu6113 Před 5 měsíci

      Also things seems to be cheaper in Nigeria because of maybe the huge market availability. This results in competitive pricing of goods and services. And this is only an advantage to some1 trading or coming into Nigeria with a higher exchange rate. Those things u perceive cheap are frankly exorbitant to the ordinary Nigerian who is paid less than 10gh a day.
