    the real joy of living in Chiang Mai is when you have a relationship with local people - especially if you get out of the city center. The 'upcountry' vibe is based on agriculture, small local community, and family values. Not necessarily easy to meet folks like that but there are ways to get involved outside the expat community

    Hello, I enjoyed the video because I can relate with his situation. I saw his book cases in his place. Please ask Bob Lyman if he shipped his book cases and any household goods to Thailand. 2) If he did use a moving company which moving company did he use? 3) How much was the shipping? 4) When he arrived in Chiang Mai, did he stay in hotel before finding a permanent house or apartment or was a place already arranged for him before landing in Thailand? 5) Is he renting, leasing or buying his condo?

    • @SettleinAbroad
      @SettleinAbroad  Pƙed rokem

      Hi there, thank you for your kind comment.
      As far as we're concerned, Bob did ship his books, records and household goods to Thailand. Bob handled the shipping process independently so we do not know the details of it, but prices will vary greatly on the types of good being shipped.
      We helped Bob secure the condo before he arrived to Thailand. We sent him photos and a video walk throughs of several apartments and this was his favorite. When he arrived, his condo was ready for him. Bob is leasing the condo. We hope this helps.

      @@tanhakkoon that may be fine for someone who is used to living there, but what about Bob or other people who are older and not used to living there. Also, people can't just stay inside for 3 months. We have to go out to get food, eat, be social, attend school, etc. Staying inside is NOT an option for most people. That's what my concern is. Everything else about CM seems wonderful. The people. The food. The culture. The recreation. The beauty. It all seems wonderful.

      Hi Erik, thank you for reaching out to us.
      The burning season is from March -April. Last year, the season wasn't as bad as in the previous years.
      Many expats choose to live at the beach during that time. Bob went to Vietnam during the burning season last year. If you aren't able to leave Chiang Mai, it's ok to still be there you just learn to adapt by buying an air purifier and you can wear a filtered mask outside. The majority of restaurants and cafes have air purifiers inside their shops as well so there are plenty of places to go with clean air during that time. It's just not the season to exercise outdoors. Most gyms and fitness centers have air purifiers inside too.

      Hi Shree, thank you for reaching out.
      Overall, Chiang Mai is a pet-friendly city. Almost everyone appears to own a dog, a cat, or both. Very often you will see people with their pet in cafes around the city.
      However, it's far more typical to rent a house when you have a pet. Some of the city's rental apartments, and condos do not allow dogs.

      Peel, core and chop a few cooking apples, melt maybe 3grm butter, add apples and add 3 big spoons sugar.
      Cook and stir on low/med heat until apples cook to a sauce. Can be served warm or cold. Excellent with pork.
      You can increase sugar until it's perfect for you.
      Although cinnamon in the East is usually a medicine flavor, it's not in the west and is added flavoring.
