It's absolutely insane how she has been able to sustain her beautiful, angelically sweet, large and full peach-plum-cocktail/perfume of a voice into her mid forties! Especially with all the health challenges she has gone through. It's only grown in size with so many wonderful, warm subharmonics surrounding that piercing yet velvety tone of hers! Her sense of musicality and building the performance up in suspense for a release as well as alternating the dynamics has become even better. Her register transitions from chest to mixed voice and mix to head has also never been so seamless I feel like and she's even experimenting with more jazz style and rock growls now! Also, from her Begin Again performance of Marvin Gaye specifically, but also from the newest Lean On Me version and another clip in the compilation shows that her G#5's and A5's has been more full-sounding I think, which is incredible and she also phrases up there so clearly and easily now! Overall she sings less breathy in the lower to middle parts and falsetto parts of the songs, which I prefer so much more. Not to forget she's SUCH a vulnerable, humble, bright, joyful, giving and selfless soul. Her performances moves me to tears and widen my musical horizons at the same time. She means so much to a newbie singer since a year back like myself, that now at 28 is wondering how I could never find this great passion earlier, which she only fuels more within me everyday. My singing teacher told me that I have a voice that sits similarly to So Hyang's and with similar weight to hers which made me happy like a fool to say the least. She's so admirable and I learn so much from studying her and to sing her songs/unique renditions along with her here on CZcams gives me life. I can only whish to be even a fraction as masterful, skilled and artistic with my instrument as her. To nurture and keep every bit of the voice intact and have it only blossoming more as the years go by, strenghtening the low notes and building a stronger voice throughout the range with such mindblowing controle and creativity with it is just incredible, I could only wish for the same when I'm her age because that would be nothing short of wonderful. My dream is to go into musical theatre and So Hyang motivates me everyday that it's not to late. She challenges me, inspires me as well as gives me happiness, strength and hope everyday. The only thing I could wish for from her is that she would sing a Savage Garden song like Crash and Burn or a Ray LaMontagne song like Let It Be Me, the curiosity is overflowing me of what she would do with those songs and they would suit her beautiful energy amazingly. I'm just dreaming of doing backup vocals for her for even a day one day because that would be a day of heaps of invaluable musical knowledge. I wish I could thank her for what she's unknowingly done for me, I was in a tough spot a year ago after losing my grandfather and she ignited a spark in me, made me find abilities in myself that I never would have thought existed, I'm no longer the same person that I was then but much more free and happy. Even my Christian Faith is restored and stronger than ever because of it, I found my voice and my vocal inspiration in the exact right timing. I understand now that God has other plans for me than what I had for myself before and that I should keep looking up to So Hyang and learn from her, there are few better role models than her for me to have I feel like. Thank you So Hyang for making me fall in love with singing, for showing me that nothing is impossible (even the word itself says "I'm possible") and for enriching my life! I stumbled upon her in a vocal coach reaction video to Bridge Over Troubled Water and I've always loved the song but it didn't truly become clear to me it's very deep and important message until I heard her version of it. It resonated with me in several ways as it hit me with a whirlwind of emotions. It has a special place in my heart as it was one of the first beltier power ballads I ever sung so it was a breakthrough in many ways, I had never hit high G's in a song before, only in scales. It felt so powerful to be able to sing it. The rendition really carries magic throughout it and I just fell in love with the gospel genre. I have a feeling that God is sending me messages through So Hyang as well, I very frequently see these syncronized angel numbers with different important meanings when I look at videos of her which I've started to believe more and more that it can’t just be coincidental. It's really powerful to get these kind of awakenings and I need to look at her testimonies too and maybe even become a member of church quoir. I feel really fulfilled too when I get to sing to others; comfort, move, affect, uplift and inspire people - it's a powerful exchange in that kind of communication. Oh, yeah. Sohyang doesn't have a prime, She *is* the prime. She has her downtimes, but even her downtimes are better than a lotta singers could ever achieve.
The thing I’ve noticed her improving the most lately, is in her sense for dynamics in creating the right vibe and maintaining the flow of the performance. She was already great, with all the iconic songs she’s covered and made her own. But since the end of 2019 and esp. from 2020,, everything she’s done seems so much more mature and in her element, like she’s taken another massive step in getting even more comfortable with herself and her voice. She was slaying this whole time but now it feels like she’s firmly on her throne and relaxing, needing to only point a finger to make heads roll. Not sure if I’m getting my point across right as these have to do with the subtle aspects of a performance and my limited vocabulary is failing to articulate it well 😅 Let’s just say I sense a massive improvement (coz I love the change) in the way she approaches songs in general - from the arrangements all the way to the kind of presence she exudes onstage. I can definitely feel the difference, just not what exactly and what might be causing it.

It is barely possible to detect but, when watching her demeanor in those latest appearances, she seems to be singing even more effortlessly, smoothly, and seamlessly. I have seen her performances from 2012 to 2019 where her voice was fully matured and spectacular, and it never occurred to me that she could improve on that voice. In my opinion, the G3s are all supported. The upper range unfortunately has lost some consistency, due to her health problems, but most of the time, she still has resonance until E5. The notes from F5-F#5/G5 lost the most consistency because (a) her health, (b) she pushed her chest voice a lot than before into her mix, (c) the difficulty of the song, especially in the run of IWALY, her F#5s are really tense. The notes from G5/G#5 - B5 still has it because she switches to twang and always uses vowel modification when singing these notes, so she's still able to support them, although the G#5 in Lean On Me recently was tense/unsupported in my opinion.

Her F5-G5 range hasn't been this consistent since 2017 and I disagree about tense F#5s in IWALY. Yes, some of them are tense, talking about specifically the 2020 ones but in 2021 only one was excessively tense out of 7 of them she did this year. I would recommend you to listen to her recent Thrill concerts (I have vocal highlight of some of them on my channel because unfortunately we aren't allowed to upload whole performances for now) and see how easy and good her F#5s sound in happy birthday song😊 Also that G#5 in Lean on me isn't her best for sure but I wouldn't call it tense, rather raspy.
