Version 1 is the stuff of myth and legend. Japanese mall rats described Cervantes as "impossible" and it was considered unbeatable. I fucking love Soul Edge tho
it is WILD hearing the arcade voices instead of the home release version. Seong Mina wasn't a car alarm. Also how did you find this? Where would I have to look to find this? Also LOL at PS1 era Taki and her jello tiddies. When I was 5 I was fascinated by this game because of her. Also going back to this game and seeing how some characters kept several moves from this into modern times is a nice touch. Most of Taki's moveset here survived until SC6. Seong Mina, even though she's had the same weapon every game, lost most of her Soul Edge attacks in Soul Calibur 1 when Kilik was added and given focus. I kinda miss a lot of her moves especially her A forward A A K string.
Grew up with both the PS1 and the Arcade versions (somehow in the mid-late 2000s, the arcade I frequented kept Soul Edge around even when SC2 and 3 were gathering crowds). It does get a bit jarring not hearing English Sieggy and hearing a younger Hiyama be the voice. And yeah this does seem like he's running it on MAME

Many years may have passed and the games may have evolved, but I feel at home seeing the bullshit of Cervantes and the Hours of Bravely Folk Song. Kudos, dude! You held on someho!

The PS1 version is pretty brutal as well. It took me two hours to beat Sophitia's Edge Master mode and Cervantes (+ his possessed corpse) took half of that time.
I miss playing the home release version so much. I remember going over to my cousin's house as a little kid and we would pass the controller back and forth trying to beat weapon master mode with each character. It took us about a year but for a couple of 5 year olds ill take it lol
Siegfried’s ending is probably the only one in the whole game that stuck throughout the series, both the bad one in the ps1 version and the standard arcade ending (seen in weapon master) they keep retconning who destroyed which of cervantes’ two swords
They've consistently kept the detail that Sophitia destroyed the smaller of the 2 Soul Edge swords with Taki killing Cervantes after and saving Sophitia throughout the canon of the series though, even up to SC6.
@@windego999 was it? I vaguely remember them flip flopping between the two of them, could be miss remembering that as their non-canon soul edge endings
-one hour later- yeah, it's brutal, taki took me 20 minutes, li long moveset is 1/5 missing, but old strategies work, guard impact is quick guard of SC V,. Play this game in a diferent way was a trip, thanks for this and future runs i will play
Soul Edge is such a different beast of a game compared to the rest of the series since the eight way run was introduced in Soul Caliber one. I think my only critique is you never used the kick button which usually has some of your faster interrupt options. Man I don't remember how to sidestep in this game it was something weird like double tapping up, down or a combination of that.
Yep. Side step towards the screen is 22 and side step away from the screen is 28. Which is kind of hard to press fast, but there's a control scheme option that maps side steps to L1 and L2 in the PS1 version.
How is it possible that you've based your entire channel around the Soul Calibur series and remain absolutely awful at playing the games? Is a low block too much to ask for?
