I guess this was Namco's response to Fighting Vipers or maybe Battle Arena Toshinden. Anyway, it was launched in 1996 (same year as VF3) with the same hardware as Tekken 2. This is the game's second edition, which includes an intro (for each character, indeed), Hwang as a unique character, a playable Cervantes and some balance changes.
This walkthrough will cover Siegfried's story, which if I'm not incorrect, is considered the canonic one. There will be some emulation problems, specially in Li Long's stage and there are some sound effects missing too. -

Lmao it's kind of amazing to see how some movesets just never change even throughout all these years. Siegfried has always had that pancake slam and that same vertical slash combo.
Don't fix what ain't broken
I believe they are called signature moves.
Only Arcade game i ever beat on a single quarter
This game is way easier than virtua fighter
I tried doing that several times with Siegfried but never succeeded. Two years later, when Soul Calibur came out I beat that on a single quarter, with Nightmare, who I had no idea was the same character until the ending sequence
They had version 1 and 2 (this one is 2). The 1st was a lot harder.
Impressive.
I did the same with Soul Calibur at Dave And Busters back in 1999 the summer before it was released on the Dreamcast just one single gameplay with no continues using Hwang..
such dark ending ... loved this game on arcades
I played this game on arcade in 1997...ahh good times!
One of my favorite arcades as a kid had this game the very first time I ever went there. My friends and I were about 8 at the time and we were blown away by this game. To be a kid in the 90s was one of the single greatest experiences you could possibly ever have.
Well at least we can hear the nice soundtrack. :)
I remember playing this back in summer 2007 when my nephew brung this over to my house. I was 10 and I enjoyed it so much.
I remember playing this game when it got out... damn, i'm old O_o...
The music is SO EPIC!!
"The grueling battle ended with the victory of CERVANTES."
Well, since in Soul Caliber Siegfried has the Soul Edge and has turned into Nightmare, it's safe to say he won this game. It's also the first time a character I used in a fighting game was made the canonical winner in the sequel.
insane how this game nailed the 3d weapon combat fighting game in late 95 and almost all other studios that made games like this would fail left and right
Taki's stage theme is so hype!
thanks for showing all the chars, that was a nice touch
The fighters have popcorn instead of blood.
LOL!
I used to play this at Gattiland when I was little, and thought it was the coolest thing.
Now this is something I can fully enjoy again.
20:40 And thus, Nightmare was born.
I never forget this game ;(
the legend will never die....
The way the narrator says Fight is so calm but so funny lol
The arcade that started it all...the beginning of the legendary battles for the cursed sword...
Likewise - bought a DC purely for Soul Calibur. Was simply amazing for it's time.
well it was the first game in the soul series with Soul Calibur coming after so you're basically right on that
the legend will never die
robert82318 the announcer says that in game over screen!
That's what He needs to say in The Next Soul Calibur Game on 360 & PS3
I did not know this was an arcade game before coming to the PS1. Yeah, I knew Tekken, Virtua Fighter, and other 3D fighters came to arcades first, but I've never seen the arcade version of Soul Edge until now. Interesting.
oh I'm so happy
I finally remembered the name of this game after so long, I used to play on an arcade all the time
it was so good
Once I got into the series, my brother helped me and burned the PS1 version for me. He said "You may not like it. It has 90's written all over it" (I was born in 2000). But boy he was wrong! I played the CRAP out of this game once I got it in my hands! I was in love with everything: the music, the characters I never saw before (SCIII was my first SC game, then I played SCII and later SCIV), the arcade mode and how difficult and fast it was. I always used to pick Sophitia, Taki or Siegfried.
This is also where I understood the story, and where I also understood Sieg's backstory. I was like 11 when I played SCIII; I just played because I liked it. But thanks to SoulBlade, Siegfried became my favorite videogame character of all time, and this became my first, most beloved franchise of all time.
And all of this began with SCIII. But SoulBlade had a big influence for me.
I owned Soul Edge for the ps1 and when the Dreamcast came along and I saw Soul Calibur...I was blown away. Purchased a Dreamcast just to own Soul Calibur (I also purchased other great games as well for the Dreamcast)
I remember me and my lil bro played this one at home (Refering to the PSone version) nearly every day! Out of all fighting games during the ending 90's, we played this one alot! This game got me hooked into the series in the first place and without it, it won't explain how Siegfred became Nightmare.
I used to own the arcade of soul edge when I was a kid. Me and my brothers never stopped playing it!
Actually, according to the storyboard images in Soulcalibur's gallery mode, it was Taki and Sophitia who originally killed Cervantes. Siegfried just kinda walked into the set when no one was looking and took Soul Edge for himself
siegfried: dont mind me *steals literally the thing everyone was looking for*
Actualy he defeated the real final boss( the personification of soul edge) before being possessed
what'd happen if other character finishes the final boss? would they be possessed as well?
Gran adrenalina en las maquinitas que tiempos
Anyone else notice that a lot of Siegfried's moves are exactly the same as they are in the newer games?
I sat in front of this game for hours wishing I had 2 dollars to play this more than once.
Siegfrieds move set hasn't changed much over the years, has it?
Woah forgot about this game
Why do I want to hear certain songs with a lower octave in this game?
Because you never hit puberty
Nostolgia );
This game needs a remake.
theres soulcalibur
that's a sequel
Use same movement tracking and music, with HD graphics.
Be cool it would even be cool to leave the background Graphics the same but then make the characters high-quality HD with something like Unreal Engine 4
This would require this would decrease the workload or cost in time
@@LoganSmithtaichi although i disagree, because i think that Soul Calibur has perfected the fast and fluid pace that Soul Edge lacked... i will say however one thing i thought was a cool feature in Soul Edge is weapon durability... that on its own makes this game pretty unique
No it doesn't. Play SoulCalibur. Flat-out better gameplay.
this game only reminds me of a roadside restaurant where me and my parents used to dine every once in a while, they had this game in a really old cabinet. looking at it just reminds me of the smell of grilled fish and fries, along with this salad that they also served on a grill that had carrot, bell peppers and silver beet, among other things... mix in some soy sauce and it's pure heaven.
could someone tell me where i can download this game .
It would be really nice
the entire soul calibur series was supposed to stay branded as Soul Blade like it was entitled on the ps1.
Legendary title screen SOUL EDGE
I wonder what made them end up changing Cervantes's alternate outfit for the finalized Soul Blade, probably because the alternate outfit on here looked pretty much similar to his main but he looked all blue and shit lol
One of Golf Rosalina's favorite Arcade game of all the time!
I remember playing this at a community pool arcade
Rocks theme sounds even better an octave lower :)
It sounds just like the Arranged Version..
How about this see what I'm gonna wright.
Graphics of Soul Edge for the PS1 were incredible when you compare them to toshiden and tekken no wonder that when it sequel was released for dreamcast 3 years later it was crowned the most beautiful fighting game of all the time.
Nostalgia pura!
the sounds are messed up a little bit
very cool but why does the fx sounds sound so low ? also a lot of them are missing
Why is the music louder than the game sounds?
I dont know .... lol
I'v collected " ALL " weapon from Hwang to Cervantes. I really love this game.
mmm... the first time I used Siegfried.. and mastered him at soul calibur 4 :)
I’m the only one In my family that still plays this game
I wish I played this. I see a few characters that I have never met in the SC series
hwang probably looks like jake from jake and the never land pirates.
This was the game I remember!. I was just 7 years old in 2008 when I discovered this game
i didnt know wilford brimley was the announcer for this game
Si lo habré jugado!.. Mi jugador era Rock.
So it's like Virtua Fighter... but mainly with swordfighting?
Sophitia hard fighter :D
I been so confused with the naming of this, soulblade, soul edge, then soul calibur, what was the original and are they all the same game?
17:03 Lol, you wanted to throw him off, but instead he threw you out of the ring.
17:03
che tu sia benedettooooooooo
anyone know the song at 5:53 ?
What's with Stage 6's background? It looks unfinished, and is it supposed to be a modern city?
More likely an emulation issue. Can't even remember what it looks like on the PlayStation port, but I'd say it's some Chinese river town.
It's supposed to be cliffs; the river is in a valley, similar to the Grand Canyon.
its mame quality emulation ) its mountin river
Siegfried Schtauffen Versus Lars Alexandersson Versus Argus
Seung Mina was actually my sentimental fave character here 😅
0:01 IT'S PAC-MAN!
I remember this game, but It wasn't version 2. I had remember that their were a lot people that couldn't get past the fifth opponent. A few guys, who were Wizards got to the final boss but could never beat him.
You played the first version (which only had 8 normally playable characters, 9 with a code in the game (hwang) or 10 through MAME cheats (cervantes)). It is rather infamous for the fact that the CPU uses glitchy game mechanics
against you, like short hops then a crouch-kick while you attack near the floor where they stood. They also sidestep a lot and they back off really really fast (which was made impossible in version 2. The animation has to end first before another quick backwards step).
Ironically, Cervantes is harder in Version 2, but Soul Edge isn't. He is tough as balls in Ver. 1 because of the aforementioned reasons and the crazy amount of "M.Bison psycho crushing".
Cervantes Delieon and Shienroneck needs to be Easy to Beat just like Rock Voldo Scheherazade Taki Li Long
Siegfried Schtauffen Sophitia Archuleta Seung Mina Heishiroe Mitsurugi and Hwang Sung Kyung is be more better
this is like old school soul calibur *.*
How to download this game
Pity your emulator was having trouble with the sounds and voices.
This is one arcade game I could beat growing up. I would pick Cervantes continually jump and slam down with the sword. Computers couldn't deal! Lol
soul edge
Kakamiss ito laro samin dsti sa arcaedan haha cervantes main here
Insert 3 conis
Challenge ME
CHALLENGE MEH!!!!!
I want downlod plz how
Your right. I see one on Craigslist in my area for $300, today. And I'm skipping it because it really doesn't age well.
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
I guess it's the arcade grandpa of Soul Calibur. xD
More like the father.
In this game siegfried doesnt have soul calibur
Just replying to ripoutyourprejudice's legacy comment. If anything, they would of went with Soul Edge 2 most likely and not Soul Blade 2 as Soul Blade was just the port name outside Japan (and it sucks compared to Soul Edge or Soulcalibur). But than again, maybe outside of Japan it would of been called exactly that if they stuck with Soul Edge 2. But thankfully producer Hiroaki Yotoriyama decided to give the sequel a new name.
Jaman maen ding dong
This first time in my eyes where the console port beat out the Arcade game for Graphics sound and presentation
Cool
Como juge este juego en los arcades
I prefer the PSX one purely for the amazing intro.
right and the fact that it bugs me when people think that the first in the series was soul calibur, why couldn't they just keep the name soul blade, what a screw up.
Legal reasons. The game company Edge threatened lawsuits if they kept using the name. So for the next game they changed it
리롱이 쌍절곤(넌착꾸) 발목에 걸어 회전시키며 공격하는 모습이 무척 멋있네요. 중국의 힘이 느껴져요.
Damage is so crazy in these old games lmao
Seigfried was the best character.
men i remember spamming siegfred will easy to beat the game
90's games 2d>3d
This game looks awesome
Yea i agree but there were still some amazing 3-D fighters in the 90's tho like Soul Edge & Soul Calibur, VF2, and Tekken 3.
@@orlanzo2621 i play tekken 6 on RPCS3 emulator
这才是真正的街机版
MAQUINITAS ARCADE KUNG-FU SEGUNDO PISO EN LOS PORTALES TOLUCA
Huh, Rock reminds me of Astroauth
Your cool...
This video is not a fair representation of the arcade version. Must be made on a slow computer.
Someone should remake this in HD.
Same move sets XD.
