"F1 have fast pitstops"
*Shows a ferrari stop*
F
🤦♂️ They should've shown a redbull pitstop..
That might have been the ferrari's top speed......
THAT WASNT SLOW MO EITHER 🤣
haha ferrari bad now laugh
I'd love to see a comparison of race tyres per series. Like how do the tyres differ between f1, indycar, wec, Nascar, etc
@@Pugrug. endurance racers only race for about 2 hours max on a set of tires and that is with the slowest class at LM, most of the time a set lasts 3 stints or 1-1.5 hours with 3 fuel stops in that time
I believe Pirelli (current tyres used in F1) keeps their tyre formula extremely secret. Most people just need to know about soft, mid, and hard tyres for F1
@@tako.23 true. After a crash they will send people out ASAP to try to clean up tyre debris, so it can’t be analysed in a laboratory.
F1 tyres are changing tho, as they’re becoming low profile tyres. I think it’s gonna make the cars look weird and change too much of the performance of it, I hate this rule change.
More wrc plz
“Strength, stamina and agility”
Better knows as ASS.

With 35% MORE ASS!!
lmao
Hahahahaha
Wtf1 subscribers: hey, I've seen this one!
The fact that a former wtf1 employee is doing the commentary...
omg you read my mind
People who haven't seen that video: What do you mean? It's brand new
didn't mention rally, STCC, WTCC, F2, F3, BTCC...
@@bucketslash11 and this is way better explained
Imagine if F1 had rally’s repair rules, we’d end up watching Vettel trying to screw the suspension back on with a spanner by the side of the track
I imagine the only difference between that and what actually happens is that Vettel still has to fix his car, but in the pits.
Funny enough, the NASCAR car can do the service with the car backwards in the pit, so long the car *is* in the pit spot
If i may add NASCAR will be changing into to 1 Lug nut in 2022 when they introduce the next gen car. Also a video comparing the diferent use of aerodynamics across motorsports would probably be instering.
It won’t change much in terms of choreography and timing. The stops will still be pretty much same.
@@Jame5man a few seconds faster, on account of one lug.
@@wyattroncin941 it actually won’t. It takes roughly the same amount of time to change one tire in NASCAR as it does in F1 and that’s with the 5 lug nuts per tire. It takes around 0.8 seconds for the tire changer to remove and another 0.8 seconds to replace the lug nuts(they glue the lug nuts on the tires before the race)
And its probably the dumbest thing I've ever seen NASCAR do. I usually try to be receptive to their changes, but NASCAR is slowly taking the "stock" out stock cars racing. And if it continues in this direction I might end up not watching anymore. And I feel like majority of NASCAR fans might be with me on this
@@tylercady3985 what do u mean "slowly"? the only thing stock on a stock car is roughly the shape of the body. there is NOTHING stock on a a stock are anymore.
You can only be a NASCAR pit stop mechanic if you have the A.S.S (Agility, Strength, Stamina).
So Beyoncé could be a NASCAR pit stop mechanic?
I saw Tony Stewart help change a Transmission at the Rolex once. I was drunk and tired...so was Tony....
I like how they put a scope, lazer and "extended mag" on the fuel rig as the modification they they did to the fuel rig
You know, NASCAR being what it is, I wouldn’t be surprised if they tried that.
WTF1 be like - They copied my flipping flow !!!
Jess (the narrator) came to Autosport from WTF1.
Fuck wtf1
WTF1: wait-
Jess (the narrator) came to Autosport from WTF1.
Finally a fucking good video from Autosport ever since Scott n all the pilgrims departure over to The Race.
Good fucking editing. Great style, excellent delivery
Well, it is Jess commentating. Jess formerly from WTF1, and something that WTF1 already covered.... yeah.... uh....
Add on the MotoGP pitstops: there are now marked out lines for safety at right angles to each other for bike in and bike out due to safety so they dont misjudge and damage the 2nd bike when they come in to change
NASCAR: 5 mechanics
Indycar: 6 mechanics
F1: T W E N T Y M E C H A N I C S
No mention of Super Formula? DISAPPOINTED.
Those guys have the most awesome pitstop of all, with mechanics jumping through the nose of the cars.
And IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship
you can not jump THROUGH a nose of a car
@@JanitorIsBack I think he meant over, it’s pretty weird but cool to watch
yea their pitstop was a whole acrobatics team lmao
Mercedes still trying to figure out which tyre was supposed to go on George’s car 🤷♂️
nascar crew members are allowed over the wall when the car is one stall in front of the cars stall, not before it’s stopped.
Refuelers in nascar also can’t do any work to the car except fuel the car. Back years ago they used to carry or remove the tool to do track bar adjustments but that was banned years ago now.
I think you are thinking of something else because 1. The car must be at most 3-pit stalls away when the crew members get into position, 2. Refuelers can do any of the adjustments such as track-bar adjustments and if the team choose to not put fuel into the car they can also do front end adjustments and spoiler adjustments, (though the spoiler adjustment must be minimal)
@@sevenofor you are allowed over the wall one stall before yours. You get ready 3 stalls before but you can’t be over the wall before the car is one stall before yours. It almost cost chase Elliot a championship this year at martinsville where the jack man was over the wall too soon. But reset before service because he went just before chase was one stall away.
Refuelers can’t do work because they are refueling and that’s their job. If they don’t have a gas can I wouldn’t call them a refueler.
You missed EWC, the motorcycle endurance series, they make stops for fuel and tires, as well a rider swaps throughout the races. Also the Isle of Man TT where riders usually stop every 2 laps for fuel, tires, and visor changes!
Well done. It's pleasing that you didn't just cover the main series... I'm pleased you covered ALL motorsports series!
2:00 this rule was only a test and was used 2 times in 2020. It was only a test and has not been officially stated as rule past 2021. Apart from those 2 races last year, all truck and Xfinity races will have normal pit stops with no additional rules.
In NASCAR, there is no such thing as time penalties given out to drivers during pit stops. It is either a drive-through penalty under green flag conditions or tail end of the longest line under yellow flags. Tail end meaning behind all cars including ones who are laps behind you.
There was a lot not quite right with the NASCAR part.
9:32 Comparing all Motorsport biggest events, ex Le Mans 24 Hours, Daytona 24 Hours, Daytona 500, Indy 500, Monaco GP, Bathurst 1000, Bathurat 12 Hours, Spa 24 Hours, Petit Le Mans A.K.A IMSA WetherTech Road Atlanta, Watk8ng Glen IMSA WeatherTech, Sebring 12 Hours, NASCAR Cup Dega Spring, Isle of Man tt, MotoGP Dutch GP, Daytona 200, and many others, Motorsport have many legendaries and historic races in year.
If you want to include all those semi legendary races (given that the 3 actual legends are Monaco, Le Mans and Indianapolis), you can add the Italian, the Belgian and the British GP.
Great video! Thanks for the comparing, learned a lot new things.
Superb video!
Keep up the good work.
supercars australia also change brake rotors and pads during endurance races
Super interesting video. Well done autosport
i really enjoyed this video, very interesting so thank you! :)
Also for Supercars, in endurance racers with multiple drivers, they are permitted one extra person to assist the drivers entering and exiting the car (but they cannot perform any other duties at the stop). Not all teams use this person as it isn't compulsory to have one. Teams are also limited to those who are in the pit lane for any repairs made to the car in the pit bay, but if the car is in the garage there is no limit to who or how many can work on repairing the car.
Although the speed of pit stops in the NASCAR Cup Series is going to speed up starting in 2022 when the Next-Gen Cup car is implemented since with that car, NASCAR will be going from the traditional 5 lug nut wheel to a center single lug nut wheel, which should put it on par with Australian Supercars
4:00
Redbull: hold my tires
So well explained!
As for the next video how about explaining the LMH and LMDH rules while also comparing them and how the BOP could come into play to balance both set of regulations?
Great video 👍🏼
Very well done!
I've seen other videos, just like this 10s of times, I just love pitstops
In NASCAR they're called "crewmembers" or more specifically "tire changers" or "gasman" depending on their specific job, not mechanics
Same in F1 though, but I get why they simplified it for the video.
Great video I’d love to see one about the draw for manufacturers to participate in the different series
NHRA Top Fuel: 1 hour between runs to rebuild the engine and clutch, repack parachute, change any tires that need changing and then be back on the line ready to go.
In the WRC, if a car has an accident, a FIA marshal inspects the roll cage. If no damage is found then the cars go into what they call super rally. Mechanics are given exactly 3 hours to make all the repairs they can. They are not allowed to get near the car before or after the the designated time so its hard to plan their strategy for that time.
This was awesome
Missed Super Formula, perhaps the most interesting pitstops of any sport, where only 3 people are allowed to change the tires
I'd love to see an explanation on the Strategy in different motorsport series
Some interesting strategy play can also occur during a NASCAR pit stop when it comes to how many tires you can put on the car. Teams have the option to either put on 4 tires, or 2 tires on one side or another. If the track and car setup allow for it, you can see some teams go with a 2 tire strategy, so they can have some fresh rubber while also getting out sooner then the other cars. It is not as good as a 4 tire stop, and its much more common for teams to just put on 4 tires.
In other words, NASCAR has got the most skilled pit crews because they have to do far more with far less.
Yup according to the regulations
You need quite some skill to coordinate with 19 more people and do something in 2.5 seconds (with no room for error or the pit stop time doubles), even if that something is smaller.
The Brazilian StockCar was missing. It would be mega to see you talking about it!
Hi.
Just for suggestion.
All overtake helping method or device all across the motorsport (Fan-boost, DRS, Push to pass, etc.).
Be safe. Happy new year.
I would like to point out that, similar to endurance races, NASCAR teams also will make changes on the car's suspension (track bar, spring spacers, etc) during the pit stops as well as refueling and changing tires.
Awesome!
F1 has the most sophisticated pitstop, look at the way the crews move as if they are harmonized
WRC has the most technical pitstop, i've seen one Citroen car getting repaired from a major suspension damage in less than 30 minutes and all crews moved like they have been programmed to do so
Don't forget Super Formula in Japan, which uses an robotic jack in the front and only three people that can change the tyres.(Not in 2020 though since Covid happened)
You guys forgot the light controller on the F1 pits. For those that don't know. They are there to override the automated system in case there is an issue in the stop or a car coming down the pitlane to prevent an unsafe release.
in nascar the pit crew are able to come out from behind the wall when the car is 2 pit stalls away, I learned that from Chase Elliott's pit crew moment from Martinsville of last year
Love the helmet icons in this! 🤣
I’m so glad hey added the supercars championship
I love F1 pitstops. Its must a joy to see the red null crew perform their magic every race
Great video, but you missed out EWC, WSBK and TT
Its also worth mentioning unlike in formula 1 where theres one team to service both cars,in nascar and indy each car has its own pit crew
Also a reminder about rally- the cars are required to drive from the end of stage to to the start of the next at stage and damage can happen durning this
1:14 Ah yes! I love my fuel tool to have a sniper scope and a laser sight to fuel up the car, along with Extended fuel capacity in my fuel tool as well.
Could also be an interesting video comparing tires and what would happen if you give another series F1 tires
NASCAR is gonna be a lot different with the single lug next year
Formula E endurance with 12 hour recharging pit stops would be funny
i think electric endurance cars would just swap batteries or cars
@@phiphi334 batteries most likely, or use like hydrogen fuel cells
What's not mentioned here is the different interpretations of the word "repair" across motorsports
If you lose a front wing in F1, you switch the entire nose.
If your bodywork is creating too much drag in NASCAR, you hit it with several hammers until it's flat again.
I know they were experimenting with those NASCAR pit stop changes in 2020 for the races not attached to a Cup series race, but I haven't seen any word on them being in effect for 2021...
Also, I saw that Indycars have to use two different compounds on road courses as well...
NASCAR's moving to a single lugnut next year, just thought I'd bring that up
F1 Pitstops : 2.5 seconds
Ferrari Pitstops : 13 seconds
Mercedes in Germany 2019: 60 seconds
@@FellianTheDragon or 30s sakhir 2020
I would love to see a comparison of g force faced by drivers of different motorsports.
This is the WTF1 video but a female narrarator, autosport logo and the orange is red
Jess used to work for WTF1...
@@bfapple oh ok
You needed to talk about the stops Car pits GT3 And also about how they lay it in the Japanese Super GT
would've been cool to reference either the wrc team that set the record for the fastest full suspension swap or the porsche Le Mans team that changed a gearbox and drivetrain in something like 5 mins!!
There was a few things wrong on the NASCAR Part but as far as I know this is a mostly English channel so it is alright.
NASCAR now allows 6 men over the wall, some things are a bit different within the pit-stop, and NASCAR does not have time penalties but rather will sometimes park someone in the pits for a lap or something of that sort
I would want to see an explanation of the different classes of GT cars and driver ratings.
would've love to see super gt and dtm but good video otherwise!
You forgot about the insurance world championship for motorcycle racing they do loads of pitstops same as the WEC championship
After seeing the sniper scope and laser on the gas can, I can’t help but picture pit crews launching fuel into the car from 10ft away
and bhoping
You missed an endurance series: The 24 Hours of Lemons. 🍋🍋🍋 No, that is not misspelled. 😁
VERY original video idea guys. NEVER been done before
just like many videos, plus the last good one is years old and is very outdated
f1 has people to change the front wing angles too.
This has most probably been answered but in the truck series if the truck gets a puncher outside a yellow flag period are they allowed to change tyre on safety grounds?
Would like to know about DTM and Japan Super GT
Wasn't NASCAR talking about switching to a single central nuts... individual lug nuts are a projectile hazard as the car leaves the pits box.
1:07
The car doesn't have to already be in the pitbox before the crew can go over the wall. It has to within one pit box.
When showing a fast pit stop in F1 they showed a Ferrari pit stop.
Meanwhile Ferrari are spending about 20 seconds changing one of Vettel’s tyres in 2020.
Cries in sakhir gp
Would be interesting if only one mech was allowed (jackmen aside)
Overlooked a casual safety incident in pitstop... rofl
somewhat dissapointed GTWC and or IMSA was left out, especially since WTCR and BTCC are in it, two series where you just gonna retire the car and prepare for the next race if you have to come in for repairs but decent video regardless
They got the nascar rules wrong in this video. Its actually the tires just have to stay in the pit box within a mechanics arm reach at all times. They do not have to return the tires over the pit wall for a car to leave the box
I love the utter disappointment Carol Shelby have. When he found out his pit crew is from Nascar in Ford vs Ferrari
In the movie it is because the other Ford team has a NASCAR pit crew. NASCAR may not be the fastest in motorsport but are well known as being the strongest both in terms of the cars and pit-crew members
@@sevenofor nah the endurance pit crew is the best. As long as the car can made its way into the pit. They can always fixed it
funny you diss NASCAR pit crews. when the Lotus F1 team went to the Indy 500 in the 60s they hired a NASCAR pit crew for their 3rd attempt because they were so good, they won the race thanks to them.
I thought WEC had rules on how many of the pit crew could work on the other change (I believe it was 3 or 4)
Yes they are is a limit of 4 people who are allowed to work on the car at the same time.
Monaco 2010, Sakhir 2020
NASCAR is going single lug nuts
Did Jess narrate this video? That voice and accent, tho! Sexiest in motorsport!! 🏎 👍💖
funny, because WTF1 made a video 2 years ago about the same topic and you guys even have the same thumbnail
Why no DTM or GT?
LOL NASCAR FUEL RIG got a scope extra mag and laser
What about the Karting Championship Pitstop
What's the average pitstop time of Red Bull?
I get that there are media rights involved etc but would have been nice to actually see all the different stops. I was hoping they might be shown one after another at the end but no such luck.
Is it just me or does Japanese Super Formula's pit stop (not here) are not as acrobatics since 2017?
How about super formula?
