I will never forget the story of the beanie babies. When I was incredibly small possible still in the womb. My great grandmother loved beanie babies and so did my mom (much less so then my grandma) and McDonalds was selling them with like fries. So my dad, who loved my mom and loved my great grandma. Bit the bullet and are as much fries as he could to give to my grandma. To this day nearly 20 years later. He cannot even smell a McDonalds fry without wanting to get sick.
I remember collecting beanie babies… there was this one time I was at an antique store and there was a collector there who wanted to buy the Scorch beanie baby. Needless to say, I wanted it too and because I was a child, the store owner gave it to me, because she knew I was actually going to play with it. And not two seconds after purchasing it, I tore the tag right off; much to the collector’s horror 😂🤣😂

I'm not religious at all, but I still like that they have clean comedy as well. BYU is one of the few channels you can watch without having to see or hear anything offensive or gross.

I have a question. If they sold a PRIVATE JET to INSURE the beanie baby, why were they worried about the tag coming off?

I have it to! My mom gave is away when i was six and forgot about it until I was eleven when I decided to research it I didn't know that some Ty plush were worth money until I stumbled upon a website about the Princess Diana bear and looked more in 2 it and found out that it was worth $1,000 dang I flipped my lid and ran downstairs to try to find it never found it but found one at a store for $1 and now I'm reunited
i have one that lookes so close to it but it has a blue ribbon around its neck instead of red
I spent $150 buying a little over 200 of the little critters (because I think they are cute but I never wanted to pay so much for them in stores back when they were popular). I don't have a full set, but they are cute, and extras go to a children's charity. When people ask me how much a Beanie Baby is worth, I reply, "75 cents, a few bucks if you're lucky".

Do you think they'd pay a lot of money for the real one for a short sketch? The real doll is probably more expensive than all the money they put in for a week... and they'd never even let the actors touch it..
So he tore of the tag but the bear was insured. They should have collected on the insurance.

yes but keep in mind that they would get alot less than the bear is worth so there would no point in pulling it off for the insurance money
***** What the bear is actually worth and what they could sell it for are 2 different numbers. Unless you have your own store, all buyers are gonna try to talk you down to way less than it is actually worth, so the amount that you could get from insurance could be more than what it would sell for on the market. People burn their houses down and crash their cars because they can get more from insurance than they could selling it, so why not damage a beanie baby?
He said it's worth OVER 20 billion dollars. I did the math ands it equals exactly 20 billion dollars

I imagine they based this sketch on a recent news item, in which a family spent $100,000 investing in Beanie Babies. The hope was the bears would appreciate in value and they could use the money to send their three sons to college. However, the deeper they got into it, the more they came to find their collection was worthless. I think one of the sons made a documentary about it.
When I was in Preschool, this exact thing happened to me! Without the millions of dollars.
I just realized that they changed Jason's name to Amazing Grays in the credits. Awesome!

Same here. They're actually more entertaining, in my opinion, than SNL. After SNL started to get a little too inappropriate, it wasn't that funny anymore. I'm not Mormon, I'm Catholic, but this show is my favorite!

I remember collecting Beanie Babies in the 90s. I was a kid at the time, and every time I got a new one, some lady in the store would say "Now, you gotta leave the tag on those. One day they'll be worth a lot of money if they still have the tags!" Lady, I'm 8, I don't want a lot of money, I want a bean bag that looks like a penguin to throw at my brother when he's being annoying.

They aren't worth JACK...and that's the point. Scores of people bought them as "collector's" items. Some spent time and money finding "rare" beanies. The only people paying anything for them are people who still (for whatever reason) have a need to complete a "collection". So sad...I have a friend who probably spent thousands of dollars on these things...and tag protectors and plastic boxes to hold them...
